Yes, I definitely don't want a time out or worse, the thread closed and I promise I am kidding about actively, purposely goading Ron. I would not go there, even without TOS but definitely because I want to honor it. I will not be soliciting a response or reaction from him. :-)

I'm curious if the church has rules or a code of conduct for the Pastors. This could be what this is all about. The adultery story could be all fabricated in order to strip her from the church and any money associated with it.

According to Wikipedia link about prosperity churches " it is common for pastors of prosperity churches to be the highest organizational authority figure" "

So Ron may pretty much have full control of the church and money and no one to stop him.

Interesting that Ron says the first affair was confessed to him right when they got their new 5 million dollar building (and really expanded the church to megasize with a building to proclaim their arrival into prosperity). That huge building was probably an obsession for him and no doubt his focus was pretty much on that for years. He was living and breathing the prosperity gospel 24/7.

And isn't that just when he said Hope was supposedly having an affair? Could there be a connection. With his obsession with working and traveling all over the country, she was left alone to create a world of her own.

For instance, In the badly written article in "Destiny Magazine" in 2008 (http://www.scribd.com/doc/10046833/Destiny-Summer-08-Online) Hope said "he Ron) will call Carol and say, “will you set an appointment with my wife today I need to take her to lunch.

Ok, seriously, he needs his secretary to set an appointment for lunch with his wife? He can't just call her or ask her in person when he sees her at home? Nope he probably can't because he is never there!

Even when he was poor, he wasn't there. There was another story (somewhere in these threads) about a time when they were young and poor and he came home to find her car packed and her ready to leave. She had had enough of his constantly being absent in the home.

So I call BS on his claim that he has done nothing wrong. Maybe he thinks he can't be faulted with anything that happened since he was never there. But THAT is a huge problem. He abandoned the marriage before she did (if she did).

So basically Hope has mostly been home or raising the Kids and now suddenly she is sent hundreds of miles away for a year? And who will care for the kids ( One is grown, the other two are in their late teens I think, so it's not like they need to be cooked for, bathed, helped with homework, driven places, etc).

I looked up more on this prosperity gospel stuff and one interesting tidbit was "Prosperity churches typically reject Presbyterian polity (or governance) and the idea that a pastor should be accountable to elders; it is common for pastors of prosperity churches to be the highest organizational authority figure" Prosperity theology - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

BBM - so he probably doesn't have to answer to anyone in the church. He may have just had Hope classified as an employee or advisor or whatever and could just "fire" her and have her removed. With her out of the house, he can reclaim his position and declare she abandoned it and it is now his domicile and he could possibly even file a restraining order.

These prosperity types (and the cult type leaders, etc) are very , VERY good at manipulating people. Look how they fleece their flock, gain wealth and promise the same if their flock keeps giving. They don't mind twisting the bible's words to get their way. They are going to get what they want and use God as a reason why they got it or why it happened or why they are right.

Anyhoo, here is an interesting clip about TV Evangelists/prosperity gospel types and how the gov't is interested in their tactics. For instance, apparently God gave Kenneth Copeland a 20 MILIION dollar private plane. (Ain't God good?). http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/7484662.stm

Why the Prosperity Gospel is Wrong http://www.faithandfinance.org/2011/10/why-the-prosperity-gospel-is-wrong/

Ok, I know I have probably overloaded the thread with this prosperity stuff. But obviously this money is important to Ron. It is his proof that God favors him. I have seen murmurings about how money is going to quickly because a huge part of this whole issue of Ron and Hope. It's important to see the mindset and the factors that drive the Apostle" to do the things he does and how he accomplishes them.

And what's so sad is, the fact that these members work 40 hours a week just to feed their families. I love my family at *Church of Christ. We are able to see the books and we know where every penny goes. We even have meetings to discuss big expenditures if needed.

Apparently he dated her for something like four years before they got married and during that time he never made any sexual advances toward her .... seems like quite "honorable" at first glance .... but now I am beginning to wonder if he was even interested after they got married.

Maybe he is "in denial" and has remained "in the closet" pretending his best to be "normal" .... it wouldn't be the first such case .... it has messed up some fine wives who tended to blame themselves for hubbies lack of desire .... those marriages usually collapse around middle age , If that is the case here , I have sympathy for Hope and none for him

If Hope was as controlled as it seems, she likely had no friends, and I mean none, even though she interacted with thousands. Fear is a powerful motivator that can do many things, including keeping you from ever really connecting with anyone even while seeming to connect deeply with them. I hope Hope didn't fear Ron seeing her form any semblance of friendship, male or female. I know that fear, catching your breath if even a neighbor stops you to say, "hi" when you go to the mailbox, even if your husband isn't home ( but you fear he could be around any corner and literally very well could be, ready to punish you for anyone that dare speak one word to you.

What about the photo labelled (iirc) 'my crew' with 4 other ladies....one is related but what about the rest - real friends?

I wonder if revenue was down for the Carpenters. Hope is a grown woman, it appears that she profited well from their ministry. IMO, she was not a shrinking violet. Some American Christians love, love a repentant sinner. There is $$ in sinning and redemption/forgiveness. Books, Christian talk shows, appearances at churches.

My guess, Hope will show up soon, Ron will forgive her (won't go through with the divorce) and new books will be written and it gives them more material for their preaching/seminars. IMO, the whole story is a set up.

Kind of reminds me of the Gavin MacLeod (actor on The Love Boat) story with his wife. It was a long time ago but I remember thinking he was a 🤬🤬🤬 for treating his wife so poorly. He even took her name off their credit cards and bank account.

[ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gavin_MacLeod"]Gavin MacLeod - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia[/ame]

"During his time as the Captain on The Love Boat MacLeod "very selfishly" (his words) divorced his wife Patti. She then spent the next three years seeking help from psychiatrists on both the west and the east coasts. Then one day, his wife received a telephone call from Patti Palmer, first wife of Jerry Lewis, inviting her to a Christian prayer group which contained a number of famous actresses. Gavin said, "From that day, I started to think about her. Something told me to call Patti. I called Patti. I went back to see her the following Monday and things haven't been the same since." MacLeod asked her what had happened. She then explained everything to him including that she had given her life to Christ.[5]

Following his conversion and remarriage, he and his wife wrote about struggles with divorce and alcoholism in Back On Course: The Remarkable Story of a Divorce That Ended in Remarriage. The MacLeods have been hosts on the Trinity Broadcasting Network for 14 years, primarily hosting a show about marriage called Back on Course
