Ultimately, Sandusky is to blame for what happened. He ruined a lot of people's lives.

I thought it was interesting and posted his (Sandusky's) comment without comment.

Other's on this board expressed their disgust better than I. Sandusky's arrogance in all things sickens me. :twocents:

I respectfully disagree, to a certain extent. JP could have done more in 2002 to stop Sandusky. He didn't and so I feel JP and the rest of those involved in the coverup share a big part of ruining their own, and more importantly young boys lives. JMO

Public viewing announced for Paterno
Monday, January 23, 2012
By Ron Musselman, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- The Paterno family has announced arrangements for former Penn State University head football coach Joe Paterno, who died Sunday morning at 85.

A public viewing will be held from 1 to 11 p.m. Tuesday at the Pasquerilla Spiritual Center on Penn State's University Park campus. A second public viewing is scheduled for 8 a.m. to noon Wednesday at the Pasquerilla Spiritual Center, with a private family funeral service at 2 p.m. Wednesday.

A public memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Bryce Jordan Center.

The family requests that donations be made to the Special Olympics of Pennsylvania or the Penn State THON (The Penn State IFC/Panhellenic Dance Marathon).

More information will be posted on gopsusports.com.

To honor Mr. Paterno's life, Gov. Tom Corbett ordered Pennsylvania flags across the commonwealth to half-staff until sunset Thursday.

The order includes flags at the Capitol and at other commonwealth-controlled buildings and offices throughout Pennsylvania.

I agree that Joe Paterno and PSU administrators are just as complicit for what they did. Had Paterno reported it to the police, he would not be in the mess he is. I think Paterno had more power than Graham Spagnier.

My sympathy to the Paterno family. However, the image of people standing in long lines to touch the bronze hand in his statue was just beyond the pale. The man is not God. SMH

O/T Papa...when were you at UGA? Went to HS and UGA in Athens. Coach Dooley's daughter Deana was my BFF. LOL, loads of fun...could have gotten in a lot of trouble.:blushing:

Ahhh my friend, you're making me feel old. IIRC Coach's daughter was 6-7 years old when I started in '68. Played thru '71 and graduated in '72.

(snip)

Flying PA flags at half mast to honor JP.
This is disturbing and troubles me.

It's disturbing to me also...I can understand respect for what Paterno did with his team and for the college, but this is veneration...I can't see that he is deserving of that...he was a good man in a lot of ways but with many flaws, one of which allowed at least 10 boys that we know of to continue to be sexually abused after he knew about it.

As far as the family and others being allowed to grieve, no one here is stopping that process as far as I can see. I see he's getting flags lowered across the entire state, two viewings and two memorials, so it seems there is ample time for the family to grieve.

But this thread is about the case of JS abusing boys and how that happened and was allowed to continue, I thought. That's what I come here to read about and to post about. If we're not allowed to post our articles and opinions because of Paterno's death and funerals, just let me know please.

I so agree, Steely Dan, and will even go further. Sandusky is a pedophile and therefore is a sick man who could not control his desire for little boys, until he was outed, charged, arrested, ankle-monitored and now up for trial. He obviously was afraid to face his accusers at the preliminary hearing. I think of him as a mad dog.

Paterno controlled the football team and most of what went on at Penn St. We know he knew about Sandusky and could have stopped him if he wanted.

Who is more responsible?......the mad dog or the owner who lets him off his chain to attack others?

I wonder if Jerry Sandusky had some bad blood with Joe Paterno and wanted to see Paterno fall. Likely this happened behind the scene and only both knew about it.

"Paterno’s grand jury testimony is inadmissible, according to several lawyers, because he was not cross-examined in that proceeding. The Sixth Amendment’s confrontation clause guarantees criminal defendants the right to confront the witnesses against them."

Noooooo! The article isn't conclusive on this, but if it's true, what a mess.

I'm hoping this won't be a big problem for the prosecutors...they have MM and his father and whoever else he told his experience to that we may not know about. He was a very good witness at the prelim hearing. There is also Curley and Schultz's own testimony from the grand jury that can be used if they testify at the trial...they both obviously lied about what MM told them and admitted they did not report it, which is documented by police and state agency records.

Not being snarky...............but who is paying for all the security and facilities at the viewings - my guess the Pennsylvania taxpayer.

Wonder what the cost will be?

Probably the university.

And this is what has been most disturbing to me. People are so eager to blame Paterno that it appears as if JS is getting a pass. Paterno did not found the Second Mile so that Sandusky would have access to his victims. Jerry Sandusky is the pedophile who has been abusing young boys for years, and he is by far the most to blame, and I hope we aren't losing sight of that.

There are lot of people who are complicit and worse than Joe Paterno, like Dottie Sandusky, Mike McQueary, The Second Mile, and public schools. I think Jerry Sandusky secretly hated Paterno for many reasons ranging from jealousy because he felt overshadowed by him.
