People being detained and "exported" by ICE

Here’s Donald Trump saying he wants “homegrowns” (aka US citizens!!!) to be able to be deported to El Salvador and that he wants 5 more of the high security prisons built there so he has space to send more people there.

Why doesn't he have "the power"?

Populists who have successfully crafted their images through media, Bukele and Trump are of different generations but display similar tendencies in how they relate to the press, political opposition and justice systems in their respective countries.

Before the press entered the Oval Office, Trump said in a video posted on social media by Bukele that he wanted to send “homegrowns” to be incarcerated in El Salvador, and added that “you’ve got to build five more places,” suggesting Bukele doesn’t have enough prison capacity for all of the U.S. citizens that Trump would like to send there.

Sorry @SouthAussie just realized we posted basically the same article about his meeting with the El Salvadorian president!

This doesn’t really surprise me, as I’ve thought this was Trumps plan all along. Reminds me of the international “prisons” that Hitler started with back in the 1930’s. Getting them out of Germany as fast as possible and it just escalated from there. I do hope that this Kilmer Garcia situation can maybe be the tipping point for our Congress or SC or US Marshalls or ANYONE to maybe step in to limit Trump from thinking he can just do whatever he wants, but I’m not holding my breath. All MOO

It is horrendous what is happening.

I just read a few articles about the El Salvador mega prison. 70 inmates in a cell meant for 10. Beatings from guards if you fall ill or have a headache. People in adjacent cells urinating on you. Many prison deaths.

The US people really should learn more about the conditions of this place where the US president wants to send MORE people, on their taxpayer dollar. imo

It was always going to be a matter of time on what the definition of "illegal immigrant" gets shifted to include more "undesirables".

i thought sure the scotus documents i read stated... facilitate the release of abrego-garcia, not facilitate the return. i'll try to find the document again and link it <modsnip: Unnecessary>

eta link and comment <modsnip>

The rest of the District Court’s order remains in effect but requires clarification on remand. The order properly requires the Government to “facilitate” Abrego Garcia’s release from custody in El Salvador and to ensure that his case is handled as it would have been had he not been improperly sent to El Salvador.

release not return... there it is.

“To this end, the Court hereby amends this Order to Direct that Defendants take all available steps to facilitate the RETURN of Abrego Garcia to the United States as soon as possible,” the judge wrote.

This Houston man did 20 years in prison. He was then released under Biden's clemency for non-violent crimes.

He has now been returned to prison. His family doesn't know why. "Clerical error". Is this one of Biden's orders that Trump has now reversed? Getting ready to ship "undesirables" off to the hellhole prison in El Salvador?

I think everyone should be concerned about this. This could be any US citizen's brother, uncle, sister, aunt, father, mother, son, daughter.

Family of drug dealer pardoned by Biden after two decades devastated as he’s forced to return to prison after ‘clerical error’

eta link and comment - if anyone really cares to read everything, as again, i believe it very important to know full facts.

From your link:

"Moreover, it has been the Government’s own well-established policy to “facilitate [an] al-ien’s return to the United States if . . . the alien’s presence
is necessary for continued administrative removal proceed-
ings” in cases where a noncitizen has been removed pending
immigration proceedings.
Facilitating the Return to the United States of Certain Lawfully Removed Al-
iens, §2 (Feb. 24, 2012).
In the proceedings on remand, the District Court should
continue to ensure that the Government lives up to its obligations to follow the law"

sure is interesting that abrego-garcia arrived in the us in 2011 and not until 2019 - upon arrest and further legal due process, ultimately being judged a gang-member - did he even attempt to file for asylum. if he had the ability to continue to live in this country for 7-8 years - eating, sleeping, having girlfriends, and more, he certainly had the ability to do something about his status as an illegal but imo he thumbed his nose at every us citizen who is here legally. i don't appreciate it.

He was sent by his family to the US when he was just 16 years old. Very young and immature.

Do you know how SCOTUS thought that the US Govt would ..... "ensure that his case is handled as it would have been had he not been improperly sent to El Salvador" .... if Mr Garcia was not returned to the US?

Improperly is a key word there.

To me it seems obvious that SCOTUS is saying to give Mr Garcia another immigration hearing (as should have happened), after he is returned to the US. Then go from there.

There was a clerical error. He is supposed to be released in July. I think that will still happen. imo

Here’s a less biased article -

that's a good question. and, no, i don't know what they meant or their thinking on that wording/aspect. all i know is that scotus didn't say he was illegally sent to el salvador.

Right. He was improperly sent to El Salvador. The proper thing to do would have been to put him in front of the court, rescind the 2019 order, and deport him as a free man.

Due process.

i think the 2019 ms-13 gang member ruling made that impossible with the alien enemies act in 2025. as a judged ms-13 gang member and ordered deported he met the alien enemies act to be deported under that act... no matter if he had a criminal record or not. the best thing would have been for him - and maybe wife/children - to leave the us after the immigration court ordered him to be deported back in 2019. but, i think things have gotten so bad in this country the alien enemies act was/is necessary.

"And more" AKA taking care of his children of whom all 3 have autism and intellectual disabilities. Have you thought about how devastating this illegal deportation is for his family, especially for his CHILDREN?

i didn't add the children part because i don't know if he is the father of all 3 or just the one they had together after they married in 2019. yes, i have thought about it. i've done a great deal of reading and listening... trying to fully understand all the details possible.
