People being detained and "exported" by ICE

Ruth Ben-Ghiat whose video on dictators I posted earlier today, has a very interesting article about El Salvador’s Bukele. Trump should be ashamed of himself for sending anyone to Bukele’s prison and hosting him in the Oval Office, joking about sending “home grown” Americans there next. 😡

The Trump-Bukele agreement, and the attention paid to CECOT, highlights the authoritarian aesthetics that has been a core element of Bukele’s brand since he was elected in 2019. To bolster his strongman credentials, he routinely stages authoritarian shows that visually allude to some of the most infamous mass captivities in history. Many of the bodies depicted in these official images belong to assassins or other criminals. According to Human Rights Watch, however, of the 85,000 people Bukele’s government has arrested as of March 2025, only 1,000 of those were convicted of crimes. So, some of the people depicted in Bukele’s videos have likely been wrongfully incarcerated.

The Vice President of El Salvador has told US Senator Van Hollen that the reason they are still holding Kilmar Abrego Garcia is due to the Trump regime paying them to do so. Trump needs to be arrested and brought up on human trafficking charges.

MAJOR BREAKING: Judge Boasberg has determined the Trump Administration’s willfull disregard of their lawful court Order is sufficient grounds for criminal contempt.

They also provided no evidence that Abrego Garcia is part of MS-13 or committed any crimes, just like the US government has not been able to do.Trump is literally colluding with El Salvador to violate a Supreme Court order, and Republicans are silent!

I like that idea. But by whom? Congress certainly won’t act to impeach and convict him. This is the problem that has been obvious from Jan. 20. No one has the power to stop Trump if he refuses to stop.

I wonder which poor Justice department flunky will be sacrificed on the criminal contempt charge.

Paying the Salvadoran Govt to hold this man ..... what's goin on here?? how much is Trump paying?? Paying with whose money?? American taxpayers, or his own money?? ( hardly likely ) ...
He’s paying $6 million per year with taxpayer money for all the men! Do the math. Better have Elon weigh in on “waste.”

A past proven and reliable source told cops with the Prince George’s County police that Abreago Garcia is an active member of MS-13 with the Westers clique in March 2019, according to the gang interview field sheet.
(…)
The confidential source further advised that he is the rank of “Chequeo” with the moniker of “Chele” and that his clothes were reportedly affiliated with the gang.

From what I can tell the name 'Chele' refers to a light skinned or blond person. KAG is not blond but he is fairly light-skinned for a Hispanic. So what's the plan now? Is the US government going to arrest everyone who wears a Chicago Bulls baseball cap and a hoodie?

My guess is he is known and for his protection he is not named. I’m sure they know exactly who he is and he would be identified at a trial imo. There’s a PDF of the gang interview field sheet at the link. I haven’t read it.

imo
Well if he's an expert at figuring out who's a gang member I hope his record is nothing like the 'expert' who sent another man to El Salvador's prison. I don't know why we're not talking about Andry Jose Hernandez, a gay man from Venezuela who was sent to El Salvador based on his tattoos.

the us justice department shared documents regarding abrego-garcia. the two-time accused wife-abusing, illegal guy living in the usa, abrego-garcia had over 1100.00 usd in his pocket just loitering with his innocent 'friends' - one of those friends was a real sweetie but i'll refrain from mentioning his name here as it may be against ws rules... although it's easily seen in the documents

that poor abrego-garcia, so young at 22 in 2019, and only 1100.00 cash to his name. all the years he was living here in the usa... he just didn't feel it necessary to go through the legal process of becoming a citizen. not paying one cent in taxes. then when he's legally deported he chooses to stay.

there's your poor tired huddled mass right there, miss liberty... full blown disrespect. this gang-member doesn't deserve my pity.

jmo
Did it ever occur to you that the money he had may have been his wages? That he was hired under the table as a labourer and he was paid in cash?

We need to keep in mind this gang field interview sheet is from 2019. It wasn’t created last week. In addition, he beat his wife. Not an upstanding guy in my opinion.

If we get this guy back I’s will be dotted and T’s crossed and he will be deported. imo
Possibly but not to a prison. For life. You think that's okay? To be imprisoned for life for domestic violence? I hope you hold that sentiment for every American charged (not even convicted) for domestic violence.

DId Trump pay this out of his own money to Bukele personally?? or is the money paid directly to the El Salvadoran Govt coffers? or ? whose money, and exactly to whom is it paid and how much. Who else in these prisons is the American taxpayer paying for? how many?? which ones.? what's the deal?

My country is trying to deport an American , currently... He took it upon himself to teach the Chinese how the fly fighter aircraft.. came out to AU, married, had kids here, and now is in the clink awaiting a decision. Problem is, while we want to deport him ( this is the govt line ) we do not want him to face the death penalty in the USA. Which means, if that comes down against, we have to feed him our good beef for the next 40 years.. Should we charge Trump?? I think we ought, him personally, not the US Govt.

American Taxpayers money, but it's ok @Trooper, some Americans think it's a-ok for their money to be used to house a man with no criminal record in a death camp, because let's face it, that's what that prison is. Then again, they're a-ok to house a criminal in the white house all on their tax dollars too.

Thank you. I was just thinking about this poor man.

I love all your questions. Here are a few answers.

According to US government documents obtained by the Associated Press, El Salvador is receiving $20,000 (£15,100) per deportee per year.

That adds up to about $6m for the most recent group. Bukele says these payments, along with prison labour programmes, will help make the prison system financially self-sufficient.

The cells have no windows or ventilation, and prisoners sleep on metal bunks without mattresses or sheets. Each cell can hold more than 150 prisoners and there are only two toilets with no privacy whatsoever.

They have limited access to water, and are only allowed to go out to exercise for 30 minutes a day.

"The respondent argues that the Immigration Judge clearly erred in determining that he is a
verified member of MS-13 because there is no reliable evidence in the record to support such a
finding (Respondent's Br. at 6-9). In this regard, the respondent asserts that a Prince George's
County Police Department Gang Field Interview Sheet ("GFIS") is based on hearsay relayed by a
confidential source
(Exh. 4 ). The respondent also claims that he presented sufficient evidence to rebut the allegation that he is affiliated with MS-13, including character references and criminal records showing that he has only been charged with traffic offenses. Therefore, the respondent contends that the Immigration Judge erroneously ruled that he did not show that he is not a danger to the community

Respondent's gang membership, rank, and gang name is sufficient to support that the Respondent is a gang member, and the Respondent has failed to present evidence to rebut that assertion."

This is so frustrating to read. No one here is saying that this guy is some great upstanding citizen inline for father of the year. We are saying that he didn't deserve to be shipped off to a concentr prison based on heresay from someone who simply has given good information before and profiling without proper due process. And I will stand firm on that-because what about when it's my family, my friends, me.

I too suspect that Garcia is no longer alive. MOO

yep, and very likely not paying any taxes on those wages. i also considered drug money, too.
LOL. I knew a lot of people in the hospitality business who worked for tips. I knew a girl who worked in a restaurant in Little Italy in NYC who PAID the owner to work there because she raked in so much money. Probably, all the wait staff did. It was a win/win for the owner, right? And if she, an American girl, was like most people who work in the hospitality business, she never claimed those tips or just enough to keep the IRS off her back. Happens everywhere. People get a local guy to build a fence, a shed or a bathroom and pay them under the table. High school kids get paid to cut lawns in the summer and make a pretty fair buck. I'm sure little Joey Smith who made $6K during summer wasn't asking his dad how to fill in a 1040. I bet you know people who aren't paying the taxes they should be. I don't think it's grounds to have them renditioned.
