Why does any young women go anywhere with a complete stranger?
...because they don't listen to their mothers! Truly! That...and alcohol may play a role.

Interesting, LocalGirl.
Wonder if he thought he could "stage" the scene to look as though she was murdered by a lover or some romantic encounter. Like, a lover's quarrel, that evolved into something sordid.

Yes, that's what I was thinking - he may have known she was a lesbian - and so he wanted to stage a sordid scene. He knew he couldn't get her body out of there, so he set it up as if to say - well I told the desk not to disturb her and she obviously called someone she wanted to see on her cell. So of course he couldn't be blamed for that. Joran strikes me as someone who would feel he also had to show some disrespect because she wasn't smitten with him.

Well he wasn't a "complete stranger" - she'd been sitting around the casino with him for a few hours.

My guess, to get back the money he owed her.

EleanorO: they don't need the reenactment, nor even the confession with what they have on him

Right. The confession is for his benefit only!

I went back and added:

Why do men pick up women they never met before? I had to add that as I have a son.

With his history and name registered to the room, I'm surprised he didn't just walk to the police station and turn himself in. No one would believe anything he said.

Well I hope Beth does not feel that way, because there is no blood on her hands.

I said:

"If I were in Beth's position, I would feel like I had some of Stephany's blood on my hands."

I have no idea how Beth feels.

IMO, I didn't see that she gave him money. I did see she put money on the table and sat down to the man away from him and the money was to her right. When she finally moved over to sit next to Joran, I didn't see the money on the table anymore.

I forgot we are in the era of "speed dating".

I guess my answer would have to be the same, PG. My kids (boys and girl) always hear an earful from me. It usually starts with "after all I see/hear on WS...!"!!!!

Ok...I know they've moved JVS...but is it the consensus that he'll be formally charged tomorrow?

Good thing is MOST children by the time they are in their 40's, like my son is now, you will hear "even though I didn't pay attention when you told me things, I did listen, and though I didn't do what you said, I heard you!"

ETA: It took a long time to hear that he actually was paying attention to me during his earlier years, however he still did his own thing when I wasn't looking.

The deadline is 10am in the morning or he walks free.

...and here I was thinking that she really did try and get some sleep (hence she took her pants off). I know it may seem inappropriate to some, but kids do that kind of stuff. What kinda amazes me, if she did take them off willingly to sleep, she must have felt comfortable with this guy. I guess the question remains why did she go to his room in the first place? It may have been innocent for her...but what was he thinking? IOW...was this a premeditated murder...or murder committed in the course of a robbery?

Respectfully bolded by me. RR my post isn't directed at you just jumpin' off of it :)

RR the sentence I bolded also made me think this (I had been pondering something earlier today) 1. I don't know the Peruvian culture.
2. I don't know the subtle variances within that culture that occur between different socio-economic levels of that country. 3. I don't know her familial variances from the main stream and upper socio-economic levels of that culture and country.

Know what I mean? I was sitting thinking of all the cultural differences I, myself, have seen by living in different Countries and even visiting different places within my own country and other countries. I found that in other countries it is very much the same as in the USA, you will find geographical variances within a Country (example: think North as opposed to South or SW or Midwest USA). Also you will find, familial differences within families that may have immigrated to that country and still hold many values from their originating country. JMHO.

FWIW, I'm not sure why her pants were off. It might mean nothing (after I considered the above). I appreciate everyone's imput just wanted to also share where I'm at on that. :)

I've done it before. Not so smart I know but I have. We don't know what they were talking about or doing to make her go with him. It doesn't matter really. She didn't deserve what happened.

Not sure if this is new news...dutchman to reveal NH location
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/37618530/from/ET

...also John Walsh on ET-Hopes they push for death on JVDS
http://www.kget.com/entertainment/e...loots-Case-I-Hope/vdIuNi6Ue0GN_KancEBIjQ.cspx

<snipped from the above for further reference>:

It's not clear what Van der Sloot will be charged with, NBC News reported. There are several options under Peruvian law:
  • Premeditated aggravated murder — up to a 35-year sentence
  • Simple murder — up to 20 years
  • Murder “as result of violent emotion" — from 3 to 5 years in prison
  • "Injury that leads to death" — 1 to 3 years in prison
Confessions help reduce a sentence, but likely not much for a case like this, according to Peruvian legal sources.

I don't know why they have to wait till the very last second, but I guess they have their reasons.

That's the video I was referring to Patty, thank you.

I hope anyone who watches that video sticks to the end. Mark talks about the 'weak arugment' that the FBI should have arrested him before he went to Peru. He's a former LE officer and knows what he's talking about. To think that the FBI should have arrested him before he went to So. America just isn't realistic.

JMHO
fran

PS>...oh, and anyone that tries to turn the blame of this crime onto Beth and,, or her conscience, well................is just wrong. That's all I'm gonna say about it for now......Others have already said it, JORAN is responsible for this crime! period! fran

The way I understood it was the FBI could not arrest Joran in Aruba.

I also understood that since Joran admitted to the crime of murder (in the FBI sting) then Aruba could have held him for 180 days but they didn't.

Same same.

I lived in Sweden for a year and people would change into their bathing suits right on the beach. Parents walked around with no clothes on, TV commercials showed complete nudity. It was the norm, but for me as an American this was shocking because of how we are raised regarding our bodies and how we perceive nudity on TV.

She went with him because it appears that she trusted him - at least during the casino footage. Very comfortable being at the casino in general as well as with him at the table and during exit.

I get a different feeling about her during the hotel footage. If she wasn't drugged at that point, she may have begun to have some doubts, but didn't obey her instincts.

I never heard about the 180 days. Did this come out recently?
