Most of the misinformation is coming from elcomercio.pe and some other blogs. Also, newscasts, which have been extremely inaccurate.

If everyone limited themselves to credible sources like msnbc, abc, fox, (print articles only) etc... the amount of misinformation would drop to a minimum. Although I have seen some bad stuff from mainstream media, it's been a very small amount.

Would you include the Christian Science Monitor and Sacred Monkeys?

I wonder how night two is going for the new prisoner? If he has figured out yet that his temper did him in. Is his new home the nightmare he imagined it would be. Nah he is still protected. He better enjoy these next few months of being treated like a baby. He will play with the big boys soon and from the sound of it he will not be playing long. Sounds like they want his head on a platter. Thank you newone for your post!

You're so right!! We know that Joran has never been one to control his temper. He eventually will pi$$ off the wrong guard in his cell and he might not get his A1 sauce with his steak! After his crying spells, and Mommy doesn't come to see him..He's going to be hitting some walls and maybe some guards..Remember, this guy doesn't know when to control his anger!!

If you had { } read over all of the articles yourself, and compared peruvian media to american media printed articles only... you would see I'm right.

Here is a good article on this topic though.

BBM...

El Comercio is supposedly Peru's most reputable daily paper, but in my experience, they've been the absolute worst about speculation and rumors. A lot of it gets filtered out before hitting American media.

Just for this record I think you've done a heck of a job here.
It's appreciated.

here's an online source (that quotes four local peru newspaper sources) that indicate his ''fear'' (:croc:

I don't want to be in prison in Peru. I am afraid I might be killed,” said van der Sloot to police authorities, according to reports published in El Comercio, La Republica, Peru21 and RPP.

According to Ruben Rodriguez, Chief of the Inpe (Peru's Prison System), van der Sloot feels he is hated and has asked for guarantees for his life, and he has been jailed at an individual cell, a privilege that very few inmates can have in Peru.

ROFL feels he is hated!!! I wonder how he ever got that impression. Could it be the rotten veggies headed his way. The people screaming murderer at him. He has got to be dumber than a box of rocks if he thinks the people of Peru are going to be like Aruba. I can just see him blubbering to his mother and attorney. His I did not mean to is not going to get him anywhere this time. Just more hate. Ata boy Joran keep blubbering. You have about 35 years to get it out of your system.

Here's what (I think) I know: Joran was charged with 1st degree murder with the motive of robbery, along with aggravating factors. He faces a maximum sentence of 35 years (or is it life?). There will be no reduction for his confession. Is this pretty much the gist of it?

Is his proctective custody cell relatively civilized and comfortable compared to the rest of Castro Castro? They say he will be there 4 months awaiting trial. I thought it took 4 years for a case to go to trial.

bumping...so everyone has a chance to see how in normal day-to-day public life how insensitive, off-the-cuff hostile and easily angered he can be...during a taped interview! Thanks for posting FLNY!

That video was quite telling wasn't it. He sat there and calculated what he was going to do without a thought, and with all those witnesses in the room - even him mum. If he had a gun, I bet he would have used it :(

Just my opinion of course.

The post you've quoted, I admittedly misinterpreted what I was responding to. If the intention was what I originally thought - that she was saying peruvian media was more reliable - then I don't think it's condescension. I apologize if I stepped over the line.

Two sources I have listened to intently (on radio) are the CBC and
BBC airing through Public Radio - they have done extensive on site
interviewing in Lima, Aruba, and even in the USA (with FBI etal).
Of course these news channels dont require I listen to advertising
every 2 minutes (for hours per day). I tend to balance what I get
from Biritish and Canadian radio with what is aired at night on TV
(the very networks you mentioned) and reportsfrom all over I read
on the internet. And people here have now been most helpful.
It gives one a broad cross section of opinion, fact, and thought ...

The guards given the right amount of cash I am sure they would solve a big problem for the family. No trial...nuttin...He is such a %^&*(). Yeah first time he ask for something and it does not appear he will be throwing a tantrum. That would be worth a bribe to the guard to just get to sit and watch. Since they were rude to him already just think what is going to really tick him off. hehehe Maybe running out of TP. Ahh this should be fun to hear.

My understanding is since he has a private attorney it will not take as long for him to go to trial. I bet they want to get him sentenced and out of their hair. He could also get life it is totally up to the Judges. From what I understand again he is with a couple of other prisoners. One is a former mayor and one is a hitman that was known for his Columbian Necktie. shudder. My guess is they are on the prison hit list to kill also so that is why them keep them apart from the other prisoners. Either that or they have the money for their protection.

Her not going right to Peru may show she is totally fed up with the boy wonder. I think with two other kids to raise they may have topped her list since she can do nothing about his problems. I think her not being there is saying it all. I will admit she is brave. She has been through alot in the last 5 years.

Not that its crucial to the discussion but does anyone know the ages
and situations of Joran's siblings? Grown? Still young? In school? Working?
In Aruba or Holland?

Slightly OT to your question, here's a good link from today:

http://www.livinginperu.com/news-12...-der-sloot-await-trial-sentence-peruvian-jail

As far as his cell:

Van der Sloot's cell is "very basic," Collyns added. "He would probably have a bucket in the corner for his bathroom.

http://www.radaronline.com/exclusives/2010/06/joran-van-der-sloot-could-easily-be-killed-prison

Trial time:

He's going to be likely transferred to a prison called Castro (which he has). And from there the police will continue the investigation. After a few weeks, legal experts expect a trial may start. But the legal process, the judicial process in Peru is notoriously slow. Some said they expect the trial to last between 12 to 18 months.

My comment: I heard Joran has asked for a private attorney. This could delay the process even further (IMHO).

On GVS last night they said that it could be months before it goes to trial. He's in a single cell to protect him from the others and they didn't think he'd be integrated for quite some time. If he's convicted, he goes right back in (but I'm not sure they'll keep him in PC). This was from a reporter from Lima on GVS. He said he "was in for a rough ride".

BBC said four months is the usual time for "important" cases but many others linger "sometimes for years" and "their Courts are very backed up
right now". What that adds up to is .... anyone's guess? Thats all I know,
ie. heard.

Someone on WS posted a 3-part "documentary" on Lurigancho prison a couple of days ago. They mentioned inmates having to wait 4 years since they cannot get an attorney.

Apparently there are just over 60 defense attorneys in the entire city of Lima with a backlog of many thousands of cases for them to handle.

I would imagine if you managed to get an attorney, your case would come to trial sooner.

Geraldo's show was pretty decent tonight except for the fact that he cut the first part of the coffee alibi out. Did the producers not realize how important that was. I also heard (I don't know who said it) that Stephany was fully clothed. Is this true and what has been reported all week that she was found in red panties a complete falsehood? The coffee cups are presenting quite a problem for those of us who want to know the facts. There have been multiple stories told from an empty container found in the room with residue of coffee, two containers filled with coffee, Joran never having gone out for coffee that morning, etc. Why can't we get credible information on this one simple matter. I hope that by next week GRV will have MF on reporting one complete hour of accurate information from Peru.

You know, what he did reminded me of Joe Pesci's character, Tommy DeVitto, in the movie "Good Fellas". Tommy was unstable, and would violently fly off the handle, sometimes with murderous consequences.

Not a clue on ages. I have heard they are younger. I would think Aruba since the Mom is there.

Don't you wish we could have a straight answer on these simple questions. You hear 14 things and then none of them are right at the end. Fingers crossed we hear something set in stone soon. lol

What ya wanna bet he thinks someone will empty his bucket for him! ROFL
