With reference to the part I bolded, if that is the case, why not stick with the same story right from the begining, show remorse, explain what happened, leave no detail out, call paramedics, have some proof, go to trial end of story. If a person is telling the truth, the information is the same no matter how many times you tell it. A body doesn't just disappear without assistance.

Get on with your life, go to University, prove yourself, get a decent job, and maybe just maybe someone would have believed him. His futher path of destruction in the last 5 yrs, only solidifies he was responsible for NH death, IMHO. To top it off, he contacts the mother of the deceased for money in exchange for information.

The more I read, the more I think, JMHO, he doesn't know what happened to the body because his father took care of it. Shortly after his father passes away, he tries the extortion. He had 5 yrs to try it. Is this because his father isn't alive and he's the only one that knows what happened to NH's body? or he knows exactly what happened to NH's body, however he thinks he can have the upper hand. During the 5 yrs, he consistantly spoke about NH to other people, changing the story time and time again.

If he was telling the truth from the begining, IMO, he wouldn't have to keep changing the story.

These are intriguing ideas ... moreover if the father disposed of Natalie
then it falls to Joran to hold the truth tight to protect his father and
family ... that's a great responsibility. Being the oldest son he already
knows what responsibility is all about and we see what his response has been and how he has handled it through his life ... knowing this his father may have "had to!" handle the problem for him knowing Joran could never be trusted to handle this for himself. Its a theory.

So if true Joran needs to say: "Dad took care of it. I dont know what happened!". And his mother would kill him for confessing ... and others could be complicit with his father also!

How did the Arubans usually handle cases like this? Natalie hasnt been the only one to go missing or find trouble in Aruba ... they must have had a system for dealing with these kind of events. Joran's father might have already been a part of that system?

Am pretty sure that Joran probably had at least 4 years of Spanish at his school in Aruba. Spanish would be Castillian Spanish. The kind they speak on TV/radio in Spain. It is common in Dutch schools to have mandatory foreign languages. Not too many people speak Dutch.

Yes Castillian is my guess to. I did want to mention he does have a cousin that lives in Spain.

I'm confused about this half brother. :waitasec: I'm pretty sure it's not the youngest brother (Sebastian). Valentinj is the brother that's two years younger that JVS. Is this the one thought to be the half brother? Because, if it is, he could pass for JVS's twin (only two years younger). Half siblings don't usually look so much alike. Could it be possible that the half brother isn't either of those, but yet another one?

I'd really like to post the picture I saw of Valentinj recently partying, but I don't know if it's acceptable. ??

I thought that the half brother was supposed to be Lorenzo van Rijn. I am saying "suppose" because it could be plain gossip/hearsay. Google it. I will not not include a link because I am suspicious as to the validity.

Not sure who's flicker account, but on page 6, right hand column, the 4th picture down is a good shot of the 2 younger brothers & Paulus. It says uploaded 2006.

And from what I've read on the Lorenzo thing, he is one of Joran's best friends. They are very near the same age, but Lorenzo was born in Aruba and Paulus & family didn't move there until after Sebastian was born---he was a prominant lawyer in the Netherlands. I believe Lorenzo's dad died a few years ago and owned a car dealership. I agree that it's all boloney LOL. Maybe after his own dad died he called Paulus dad--they were good friends. JMO

I took castillian in high school, one year, senior year, but of course that was centuries ago, what little I do remember is that there would not have been a lot of difference in his statement about the "mal in la cabeza", if he had a headache and knew the language better I believe he would have stated "me duele la cabeza" ie: my head hurts. My guess is that he is not really fluent in spanish but knows enough to get by. Another translation is "esta enfermo de la cabeza" which he probably is, translated, he is "sick in the head". When I heard him make the statement I took it to mean that he didn't feel psychologically/emotionally well. JMO>

I have to say..watching the video of Joran being led to his cell was very disturbing to me as a human being. I TOTALLY feel he should pay for this horrific crime but do not think wishing suffering, threats to his life, and possible torture is a part of a civil punishment. Him stating his head hurts or whatever and that he hasn't eaten in 2 days are basic needs of a human not part of a punishment. I believe if we wish torture and suffering on those that commit crimes we become as sadist as the criminal. He deserves to pay for this crime, no one should suffer like his victims but it is disturbing to me to watch others wish such extreme suffering. If he spends his days in that place, even if he isn't targeted by other prisoners....he will be in hell. I feel sick about the human race at this point. What we do to each other is unremarkable. We should be careful not to think evil...that is what separates us and makes society civil. JMO.

so I have to be honest ... when I saw that video of Joran being taken into the Peruvian prison, my initial feeling was of empathy ... sympathy ... pity ... I don't really know what it was actually

but I was horrified and felt ill and kept trying to tell myself that he deserves to be there & blah, blah, blah & still am having a hard time reconciling it in my head

in fact, I only watched that video once & probably won't ever again, whereas every other one I've watched a few times each

I know he needs to be locked up & should've been a long time ago - I guess I just don't have the stomach for that dose of reality

I remember having seen many of them within the first year following Natalee's disappearance. It's really sad to look at the ones of Natalee and her friends and think of what might have been, and even Joran's family (with his brothers) that will never be the same again. MOO

I felt a tremendous sadness too when I viewed the family pictures.
