Yes, and I wasn't asserting that it was the murder weapon, only that whatever struck Stephany's face can be matched to her wound(s).

There were some reports that Stephany had been stabbed as well, has anyone heard anything else about this, what might have been used? I know the tennis raquet was ruled out as a weapon.

TIA:waitasec:

Good post MCK16! We can't, and shouldn't, rule anything out.

And yes the finger does not appear to be broken. But when you break your knuckles via hitting boards, walls or people, you can break just one knuckle. Done it a few times. You can also break more than one. But as I recall more of the time, it was one at a time. A good attorney would have a field day with the differences in those photos.

But I also wrote, that there may be definitive testing. E.g. taking an X-ray of Joran's left hand. I think radiologists and orthopedic surgeons can determine if a break is recent or not, and certainly if one is there.

Did you catch how large Bruce Lee's pinky knuckle was? Most boxers and martial artists will have the pointer and middle finger knuckles enlarged--from repeated breakings. He likely went out of his way to break that pinky knuckle.

I still ask if anyone knows which hand is the dominant one for Joran?

Hi Bobarino,

I'm still not caught up on this thread but wanted to comment on this post.

Regarding your statement that a good defense attorney would have a field day with the differences in those photos. It's my understanding that the judicial system in Peru works quite differently than in the US, and on Monday Joran has to present his side of the story to the judge. Thereafter, the judicial process is much different than that which happens in the US and he'll then have to eventually face a 3 judge panel. We are still learning about the differences, but so far, they are remarkable. The judge has a huge role in the trial. Something that is new to many people.

It doesn't sound like the defense attorneys in Peru have a field day in the same way as so many do in the US and get cases tossed (or charges reduced) due to technicalities or some sort of differences in pictures.

Sounds like it's the cold hard facts, and only the facts please, backed up by forensic evidence.

I have a feeling that while many things have been leaked, there is still much more that has not been released of which the judge is probably well aware of but wants to hear Joran's story to note discrepancies.

I'm wondering if these workshops wouldn't be more for prisoners with lesser offenses who could be released in the near future? :waitasec:

Definitely looks like rehabilitation. I like how they are learning jobs.

JohnL: re had VDS been in fights?

Paraphrasing -
I have not witnessed any, but he was verbally taunted sometimes. Nothing physical.
We hung out in casinos.
My family is not particularly supportive of our friendship, but at the time they didn't know.
We had fun together. He was a loyal friend. He was a caring guy.

This is hitting the US media right, is Peru getting this too? Really, don't these 2 have any morals and respect for the Flores family. I mean really?

I thought Jean C said it was just the two of them. I could have heard wrong. Can't wait to hear what he says when he testifys.
I was just going by what was initially reported by local media. It could be Valdez just keeps to himself in his own cell. MOO

The hitman is the one who should worry -- he's housed with a pyschopath that's probably twice his size and kills with his bare hands. (The hitman probably used a high-powered rifle.)
I was actually thinking the same thing! I'd at least assume the hitman used a gun of some sort. MOO

Just tuned in

She has retained counsel for her son

I'm a little surprised by this for some reason

Got to be a pretty pricey counsel IMO

Plus they're putting Joran in the kitchen where he'll have access to knives and other weapons.

Not his MO unless it's helpless women he can overpower. Speaking of, I've seen women with a knife in their hand and the look of Lizzy Borden in their eyes. I sure wish I knew womens eye talk better sometimes.

I think it's a good idea, however, I can't see all prisoners participating since the jobs do involve using tools (including knives), preparing food, etc. all of which would seem to require some level of trust of the prisoner and exclude the violent offenders. MOO

They are saying since she passed before he robbed her---hence the simple robbery.

I agree with this. The murder occurred in a blind rage when she rejected his sexual advances and he found out she had her period. After he realized she was dead, he took whatever valuables she had to fund his escape.

Much as the Flores family would want to say she had $10K on her - that's probably not true. He could have chartered a small plane to get him to Aruba with that. They - as well as many of us -- want JVDS to get the longest possible sentence, given Peruvian laws.

You know the taxi drivers are facing up to 2 years in prison for helping him escape - when a good case could be built that, even if he told them, they probably didn't believe him. Yet murder, with irresitible impulse, gets 3-5. No wonder Peru recevied a grant from the UN (or something) to totally reform its legal system.

Villanova basketball star Allan Ray had his eyeball literally poked out of its socket by an opposing player in a recent game. Ray has been treating the injury with eye drops, and he planned to meet with doctors to find out if he can play in the first round of the NCAA tournament. What should you do if your eyeball comes out of your head? Get it put back in, and soon. The longer you remain in this rare condition—known as "globe luxation"—the more strain you'll put on the blood vessels and nerves that connect your eye to the rest of your head

Yuk. There are so many ways this could have happened--even her receiving a blow to the head and then the pressure of strangling her. Too, if he went nutso when smothering her...the force of his fingers over her eyes could have done too. What a brute.

Fairness would be letting 25 of us from here go in and just wack him one...anywhere we chose. I get dibs on the cahonies with my nails.

I just watched 20/20 and the prisoners want him dead, he may need a weapon to defend himself. They said he will probably not survive in there.

But why no comments about my "great find" earlier today that Joran had among his belongings a book with the cover showing it was about this apparent idol of his:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bfgMEiESDc4&feature=related

I can see from the video why he may have had him as a role model. It says that l Capone was arrested for the St. Valentine's day Massacre, but "was released for lack of evidence." Sounds familiar.

If you missed it. You can see that among his belongings at the radaronline site. The photo of the pudgy guy with the hat, I deduced was Al Capone. Found the identical photo. http://notesfromthebartender.files.wordpress.com/2009/08/capone6.jpg?w=150

Compare with:

Capone died in prison from syphilis too. Bonkos.

They said the food includes you local insects and extract from the sewer. How appetizing.

I'm also under the impression in the Peruvian court the standard for finding guilt is a "preponderance of evidence" not "beyond a reasonable doubt" as in US criminal law. That's a whole different ballgame and what got OJ in court proceedings as opposed to his criminal trial.

I just watched 20/20 and the prisoners want him dead, he may need a weapon to defend himself. They said he will probably not survive in there.

That bothers me. I really want to see this go to trial. I don't want him to be found dead at the hands of some Peruvian crook that wants 50 bucks. At that point in time we have no chance of finding out what happened to Natalee. It's not fair to her family, it's not fair to her and all that have dedicated so much time on this case.
