There is a urine test for Rohypnol (commonly called date rape drug); however, the drug can only be detected for up to 72 hours after ingestion. IDK what happens if a death intervenes.

We are not supposed to call him that.

"The United States is currently a party to over 100 bilateral extradition treaties, including a treaty with Peru which was signed in 1899, and entered into force in 1901 (31 Stat. 1921) (hereafter the ''1899 treaty''). The treaty before the Senate is designed to replace, and thereby modernize, the century-old extradition treaty with Peru. It was signed in July 2001 and submitted to the Senate on May 8, 2002."

So, in short, the U.S. extradition treaty with Peru has been in existence over 100 years.

Followed by Joran signing documents for the PLE after the transfer is complete:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hfjw5S7KaHk&feature=related

(This is the video that the national media keeps showing as Joran signing his confession....which is totally WRONG!!)

I'm working on getting the entire set of videos showing his arrest in Chile to his transfer to Peru. Once I have it all together, I'll post it on the media link.

BBM: That has been driving me a little nuts since media began running that video when they began discussing that his confession had been signed, each page fingerprinted, etc. They had not implied that tape was his confession prior to then. We had access to that video prior to release of some details of confession.

Do you remember where it looks like he receives a one or two page copy, folds it up, and puts it away somewhere (like a returned HW assignment). I had thought that tape was related to answering questions related to his belongings.

I think the taped signing of confession is not "the confession while being interrogated" that is what Joran would want thrown out. Hopefully, the interrogation was fully taped.

Why does Joran have so much constitutional rights?
He is from Aruba, doing a crime in Peru.
Does Peru have a constitution like the USA???

snipped by me
But, as I understand it, now he's complaining about the Chilean police. Once again, he's crying wolf, because I don't think he was actually arrested in Chile just held on an Interpol alert that he was wanted in Peru:

"Joran van der Sloot...was expelled to Lima on Friday after being taken into custody by Chilean police the previous day ... after INTERPOL Peru alerted the international law enforcement community that he was wanted in connection with the death of 21-year-old Stephany Flores Ramirez..."

http://www.interpol.int/Public/ICPO/PressReleases/PR2010/News20100609.asp

Here's an interesting article from 13:15 on June 3:

"Joran Van Der Sloot, [who] was arrested at noon in Santiago de Chile, could be released because the country has not yet ... received the international arrest warrant." BUT, since he wasn't released, they must have gotten the warrant, thus allowing them to keep him in custody, then expel him to Peru.

http://www.larepublica.pe/sociedad/03/06/2010/chilenos-podrian-dejar-libre-van-der-sloot

So, once again, Joran is just blowing smoke. IMO

Added; Sorry, my version is automatically translated to English...but when posted here it reverts to Spanish.

BBM: A member or two posted some interesting thoughts about one date rape drug that I believe leaves system even quicker, and whether or not it would be able to be detected post-mortem. We needed some medical knowledge backup (if death occurs) to confirm. I remember I was interested in the answer, as well.

Van der Sloot Files Complaint Against Chief Detective, Says Reports

June 23, 2010 12:54 PM

NEW YORK (CBS/AP) "Joran van der Sloot has filed a complaint of misconduct against chief of detectives Col. Miguel Canlla and other officials involved in his murder investigation, according to reports.

According to newspaper El Comercio, the Dutch national claims his arrest in Chile for the murder of Stephany Flores was executed without a proper warrant. He also states in the complaint that he was not given an official translator, which caused confusion.

"All this with the intention of pressuring me to accuse me of homicide," van der Sloot said in a document obtained by Peruvian television news program "24 Hours.""

This must be Joran's way to Win Friends and Influence People....

From what reading I have done on Peruvian law, there are very similar constitutional rights in Peru as in the States. This is a very interesting article on those rights on a blog by a respected attorney who is following the JVS case

I'd be interested in this info as well. I have no medical background. What little I know I have researched on the web.

In the video I linked to with him signing multiple copies of a document, hes given a copy of the signed and fingerprinted document, counter-signed by LE. He folds it and puts it in the pouch of his hoodie.

Don't recall seeing any other signatures...but I'll keep looking!

I wouldn't doubt that they had online contact prior to Joran going to Peru through the online poker sites. EG probably told Joran through private messaging or e-mail that he was heading to Lima for the LAPT tournament and did "invite" him to join him.

I doubt he paid for his trip and hotel though. I would think that would be pretty easy to prove or disprove. :waitasec:

MOO
Wonder how he paid the first two weeks in Tac Hotel. Oh, wait, the Chinese owners have been muzzled!

I think that's exactly what he's doing, Kamille, and I think his hot shot lawyer is giving him some very bad advice. All he's doing is pizzing off the people that hold his life in their hands.

Hi, SuziHawk, I'm not responding to this, but to the reply to me that you thoughtfully took the time to write about the Van Der Sloot on a previous thread.

I was wrong about the duration between Joran's Greta hoax and Paulus's death, but the time was much closer to one year than to two. I must admit though that I am a bit staggered by the idea that Paulus should be somehow be expected to announce to the media his disapproval of something his own son had done. (Do we really think that he supported Joran's portrayal of him as a white-slaver?) At this point, the family (including two young sons) were attempting to return to some level of privacy. Frankly, I think that we media watchers somehow imagine that individuals in the news have some responsibility to bare their souls to Greta and Nancy Grace and the rest of the ratings hounds.

There's nothing mysterious about Paul not getting a plum judge's job. He applied for a job and like most applicants, he didn't get it. Dutch legal standards are high; they are recognized as among the best in the world. What it does indicate is that whether as a failed judge-in-training or a middle-level lawyer, Paul didn't wield much clout in Aruban legal circles.

As for Van Straaten and Paul, no one is disputing that they were friends; what was at issue was the knee-jerk repetitions of "best friend and godfather," both of which have been disputed by people close to the family. Just as relevant is the question about why we would assume that such friendships would mean that professionals who valued keeping their jobs would subvert the law: One of my lawyer friends frequently lunches with opposing counsel and Anthony Scalia is reportedly great pals with Supreme Court justices who oppose him vigorously on nearly every decision. Ted Kennedy and Orin Hatch were long-time close friends, but I don't think that influenced their positions on any major issues. And if the motive for supposedly intentionally scuttling a prosecution was, as you suggest, tourism, the Arubans could have hardly created a more lamebrain strategy: By extending and reextending and reextending the investigation instead of throwing nonentiety Joran to the dogs, they hurt their main source of island income for years.

As all the inane talk now of Joran being framed now by Beth and the FBI proves, conspiracies are easy. You just pick a culprit and fill in any missing connections with your own dots.
