I have a question: It appears that the head of the judicial system in Chile will make a decision either to deport Joran or extradite him back to Peru. Do any of you "legal eagles" know what could happen if he is deported instead of extradicted? And where would Joran be sent if deported? I have a concern about the two choices instead of just one choice (sending his butt back to Peru is my favorite).

If Peru asks for him back I would *assume* that would take primary position on where he goes. If for some reason, in an alternate universe, Peru did not ask for him to be sent to them for trial deportation would be to his country of citizenship. I don't see that happening though.....

2 cups of coffee does not mean Stephany was still alive. I always get 2 for myself if on vacation, because one little cup just is not enough. But, sure, defense could imply something from 2, not sure how far it would fly.

Being as it was reported that she was a known lesbian that was struggling with her sexuality, maybe it was known to others but not him. Maybe she restisted him strongly to his sexual advances? Maybe that triggered an anger response. Like how dare she turn me down, antisocial trigger. He thinks he is the best "man" around and she should be honored he wanted her (in his warped mind of course!)

CNN just reported that an Alabama attorney has filed extortion charges against Joran claiming he requested money in exchange for telling where Natalee Hollooway's remains are.

Thanks, Suzihawk. Oddly, MyFoxAl says that he was arrested for offering some one $250,000 for information about the whereabouts of Holloway's remains:

Joran Van der Sloot accused of extortion
BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) - Joran Van der Sloot, the longtime suspect in the disappearance of missing Mountain Brook teenager Natalee Holloway, has been accused of offering $250,000 in exchange for her whereabouts.

In a criminal complaint filed Thursday by the U.S. Attorney in Birmingham, Van der Sloot is accused of offering $250,000 to a person in Birmingham in exchange for information about the whereabouts of her remains in Aruba. Holloway disappeared

Even before Natalee disappeared, Joran was seeing a therapist for anger issues.

I see Joran as a manipulative, parasitic, charming, and smooth talking psychopath who is unable to process emotion as most normal people do. Anger issues as a kid, spoiled, arrogant, and a sense of entitlement beyond belief. IMO that's who he is - maybe born with the inability to process emotions or never learned it along the way.

IMO this murder was completely predictable - why would he stop, why would he ever stop? I feel furious at Aruba for allowing such an obvious psychopath to walk free to do more harm. The coverup daddy and Aruba officials provided allowed for more murders of innocent girls/women and gave an already entitled psychopath even more entitlement. They should all be ashamed of themselves!!! moo

Wow, Google translation can be very interesting and confusing. It seems gender is often mis-translated ie., he is used instead of she, etc. Am I interpreting this correctly that $5,000 was stolen that she had won in the poker game? :waitasec:

That's the way I read it also. We really can't be certain about the amount of money as the actual term used in the article was "$5 mil". Google translated it as $5,000 and it indicates she won it playing cards with a Uruguayan. (I'm also guessing Google Translation gets gender mixed up when reading some irregular verbs.)

My impression from the news reports was that video at the casino shows the young woman and JVS together, and casino records probably show she won the money. Seems plausible JVS would have noticed her winning and decided to lure her back to his room to rob her. MOO

that the family had no knowledge of him until they began searching for Stephany. Thanks for clarifying-I was just searching for that!

I watched the Today show video. Actually it was a friend of the cousin's who saw that show and discussed it with him recently, not Stephany. There was no mention of Stephany knowing anything about Joran.

What date was the Alabama extortion stuff going on.

Shocking by all means, but man the stuff is flying fast the last 2 days and I can't tell what is real or just reporters quick to jump on it.

I've even wondered if the mother was in fear of him at times? You think?

I read that it was caused by trauma to her cervix done by a blunt object? Does this mean that he raped her with a blunt object? OMG. I can't imagine for the life of me why someone would want to befriend this guy even if they don't know his history. There is nothing friendly looking about him. He looks a bit retarded and creepy at the same time. I went to the Netherlands last year for summer and I couldn't shake the fact that this kid is from there.

Anyways, I am so sorry for Stephanie's pain. I suspect that he tried to get sex from her and she was just not interested and he lost it. I have a feeling that it was the same story with Natalee. I don't know if this is true but I read somewhere that Stephanie was a lesbian. She probably thought that he was a nice guy to hang out with (don't know why she would think that) and went to his room not realizing that her time was numbered. RIP to both girls who were brutally murdered by this in bred creep.

I would think that in the mind of a killer he would be aware of every step he makes. The 2 cups of coffee trick was to make the hotel staff think that everything was OK, and that he was just going away for a day while his guest used the room.

I understood initially what you were getting at--:-); However, I have worked in the justice system for over 30 years and killers in real life just don't think or act that way. The number one reason they get caught is because they DON'T PLAN what to do after the murder. He may very well be aware of every step he takes to avoid being apprehended but he's not going to spend one second setting up the scenario suggested in case he's apprehended, which would have ambiguous evidentiary value at best.

I am glad to read Joran has no command of Spanish. Will make his undoubtedly very long stay in South America more miserable. Broken English is common there. Dutch(my native language) highly unlikely.
The comments section in the Dutch media is lot more blistering against Joran than here. Rot in a South American jail seems just fitting.
I do have empathy for Anita though. And his father Paulus(suspect Joran is partially responsible for his death), well, it might be a blessing in disguise that he is dead.
He probably did help Joran in the clean up in the Natalee murder considering the incriminating mess/evidence left behind in Peru. Most countries (not the USA) do not allow parents to testify against their children or vice versa. Always thought that the USA is kind of odd in that respect.
I also think that many Arubans will rejoice in his arrest.
I have no doubt that he will convicted to life in prison in Peru. Glad to read that Peru has no bail system either.

Hmm... very interesting questions. However, he probably knew no one would enter his room since he told the staff not to enter his room while he was staying there. He may have even left a "Do Not Disturb" sign on the door.

Maybe he left to get coffee to establish an alibi and was going to call the police when he "found" her in the room, but changed his mind and took off. Or maybe he just needed two cups of coffee to clear his mind and figure out what to do. (But why not order one large coffee instead of two?)

Wonder exactly how much time between him getting the coffee and him leaving with his bags?

Could be that he used the date rape drug that was found in the SUV on her, thus the coffee was for them both. Once her head cleared she was furious by what had occurred. She then told him how much trouble she was going to cause him and that she was a lesbian to boot. That might have triggered the rage that appeared to have happened by the reports of the room's condition.

cervical spine = neck. she had a broken neck most likely.

Interesting... But why in the world would Joran offer money for information about the location of her remains?? That doesn't make much sense. I have to wonder if that wording is backwards??

It would make sense to me that he would be the one asking for money if he was as hard up as has been recently reported.

It just get curiouser and curiouser...
