Carefully. Many idioms used in the Spanish language. Not necessarily inaccurate reporting in all of the SA sources.

Most of the problems deal with the translations, not the original Spanish. Problems crop up when folks rely on translations from Google or Babel Fish, which are not true translations.

Natalee's parents might feel differently about her bones being returned to them for burial, but I don't see him getting any deal from Peru. It is really of no real benefit to them and could only lead to embarrassment if Aruba puts him in some luxury style lockup or releases him early for some reason. I just don't see the upside of that deal for Peru.

Maybe a nicer cellblock or, um, "toilet" would be a good bargaining chip. "Hey VDS, if you tell the truth about Natalee, then we'll, um, 'upgrade' your cell to one containing only three big bad guys bigger than you. And we'll throw in an extra hole to boot."

If Peru asks for him back I would *assume* that would take primary position on where he goes. If for some reason, in an alternate universe, Peru did not ask for him to be sent to them for trial deportation would be to his country of citizenship. I don't see that happening though.....

I do not either. If you commit a crime in a host country, you will be subject to the laws in that country. Clearly spelled out in your Euro passport. Many Dutch nationals are lingering in foreign jails due to drugs and will not get any aid from their native country. If a death penalty is imposed, that might be the only time some aid could be expected. Most countries do not have a death penalty anymore.

I doubt the authorities in Peru would offer him any deals over something that did not happen in Peru and did not involve any of Peruvian citizens.

Hope both coffee cups were still in the room - DNA from both cups might prove valuable. moo

Perhaps GBH was in one of the coffee cups. It just doesn't make sense to me that he would return to the scene of the crime. Perhaps he spiked the coffee, THEN killed her. Since I don't know all the deets, I'm merely speculating. I guess we'll have to wait for a time of death -- but I think he did it after coming back with the coffee.

Just thinking out loud --

On the show I saw this a.m. he was talking about Stephany, I cannot find the link to a vid. It was the Today Show, Meredith directly asked about Stephany and Rafael talking about Joran. This was his comment. So he was speaking of Stephany, don't know how to find a replay.

From the Today Show website:
Only a month ago, a friend of Rafael Vertiz told him about a Dutch man suspected in the 2005 disappearance of Natalee Holloway. Now the same man, Joran van der Sloot, is being sought in the vicious murder of Vertiz’s 21-year-old cousin, Stephany Flores, in Peru. . .
Vertiz told Vieira that when relatives called to tell him about Stephany, he immediately called the friend who had told him about seeing a TV report about van der Sloot. “I called her and I told her. I was shocked. It was unbelievable that this was happening to our family, the same person,” Vertiz said.

Hi, Justus4all. I would imagine that it was a spontaneous, half-formed decision. He obviously needed to leave the immediate area as quickly as possible and might have considered just using her car as a getaway car. (It would also focus the search for her elsewhere.) At some point, he realized that driving a victim's auto was not the most advantageous strategy.

I'm wondering how far away from where Joran left her car is the bus station? It was reported that he took a bus to the border... then a taxi over the border.

IF he contacted Beth and attempted to extort money from her, I can guarantee you she (or her attorney) contacted the U.S. Atty. before a dime was sent.

Just found it, and it was filed, he did this on May 10, 2010:

Linky to filed complaint:

At least we know, if nothing else, he cannot come to the US without getting some Federal Prison time. Hopefully though, he will be happy in Peru's dark corners for the rest of his time.

Wow, great sleuthing! I had no idea about this one. The Holloway's must be completely relieved Joran V. has been apprehended. I am sure the whereabouts of Miss Natalie will be used by his defense. However, this latest murder trumps all! Thank god he's in custody!

I'm confused, did he offer to pay $250,000 to find her body or did he ask for the money to tell the information?

That's sure what it sounds like. Anyone who's willing to give JVS 250K can have access to Natalie. Oh wait a minute, isn't that what the Dutchess of York said about Andrew. Hard to keep up with all these extortion plots.

Sorry to get OT.

Perhaps someone can explain this for me...It was reported she was found face down at the foot of the bed in a blouse, coat and swimsuit..(correct me if I am in error)..regarding the swimsuit..does the hotel have a pool??? does the casio have a pool?? Had they been swimming??? Why the swimsuit?

Also regarding the statement Joran moved her Vehicle 50 blocks away...Perhaps he was going to use it to take him far away...then..thought better of it...and just left it..

That IMO would explain WHY he moved it....thanks

Isn't Lima on the coast? I'll forward the map.

http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=U...045813,-66.445312&spn=54.814307,78.662109&z=4

That would be another similarity to NH....the beach. I also remember reading somewhere that she was found topless besides the above statements you have posted...soooo????

The movement of the vehicle could have been two-fold...removal of her vehicle so to give him more time, if they were looking for it, plus a ride out dodge from the immediate area.

In reading the charges, the person filing them states they are an FBI agent. You may be right, they could have set up a sting.

Link to complaint, filed by William K Bryant, a special agent with the FBI.

She knew about him. Her cousin was on the Today Show this morning and was asked about a conversation he and Stephany had. He said she saw a show about him, maybe a month ago, asked him what he thought about. The cousin blew off the topic.

I think her curiosity was peeked.

(bbm)
I think that's exactly right...I've noticed that my son (22) has a ....what shall I call it?...daring streak....or maybe it's just being young and thinking that you're invincible and you'll live forever, I don't know. It's just too bad that she had to meet this arrogant piece of you-know-what.
