I think you may be right about this photo. JVDS certainly isn't sporting that cocky, arrogant grin that we're all used to seeing.

He doesn't look too pleased about being associated with these 'common' murderers! And he certainly doesn't appear to be their leader. Maybe he has been knocked down a peg or two. He may have met his match in Ospino...the seasoned assassin...who may even have more cockiness than JVDS and may now be ruling the roost!!

Maybe Joran was discouraged by the fact that a tv program was in there filming and taking pictures and he wasn't getting any money for it.

Here's another article with a take on the "festivities" that day....

http://peru21.pe/noticia/627726/asesinos-posan-sonrientes-penal

According to this article, it was a kind of "welcome party" for the new guy Trickett. It also says that Joran has gained a few kilos by not getting to go outside and eating burgers and pizza with his good friend Trujillo. The program also apparently filmed Joran playing poker with the fourth member of the group, the incarcerated former mayor/drug lord, Luis Valdez. Looking up pictures of Mr Valdez, I don't believe that is him in the picture. Something tells me that he is more likely the one running the show in that wing of the prison though. :waitasec:

FINALLY official some news....but not exactly what we wanted to hear...

"Case against Joran van der Sloot is delayed due to lack of translator Netherlands"

http://translate.google.com/transla...atrasa-falta-traductor-holandes&sl=auto&tl=en

These guys just aren't going to give up without a fight....at this rate, the reportedly lllooonnnggg Peruvian court system times may actually be doubled or tripled for the JVDS case....awww, Joran may have to spend many, many years in jail before this case ever gets to trial !!!

I can't believe his lawyer Maximo is coming up with all this on his own... there's gotta be some legal master-mind on the payroll calling the shots...either the van der Sloot's Dutch lawyer...or good ole Joe!!!

Here's an update from the Netherlands:

"A representative for the Netherlands’ Foreign Ministry said in a response on Sunday evening that its embassies always provide lists of lawyers and recognised translators, from which Dutch citizens accused of a crime aboard can choose. Reliable lists are always available. The embassies themselves, said the representative, do not provide translators."

Sure sounds like this ploy is NOT going to work for Joran after all...what a shame!!!

Thanks for the update, Kamille! This really is disgusting...some of those commenting on the article express it exactly:

"It is outrageous to see these murderers laughing in the picture, and more outrageous is that they be allowed to take pictures in jail, eating hamburgers and pizza, ... is this jail or ... a club? Tthose damn murderers deserve to rot in jail, but without any kind of consideration. [They] took the lives of three women who could not defend themselves , [can't] believe they [allow] the families of their victims see them smiling? It is time to change the "justice" in Peru."

"[What the] hell is going on in our country that we can not have effective justice and punish .... really a shame for the families of the victims ... having to witness such injustice ...." :furious: :furious: :furious:

Hamburgers, pizza, parties!? Good times. Wheee! Why is he being coddled - yet again? :furious: I guess he's no longer afraid of the food being poisoned since he's gaining weight. DISGUSTING!

The government must be taking some heat on this 'fun' photograph of the suspected murderers having been taken and published....at least I think that's what this article is about...very poor Google translation!!!

Awful translation, but I hope you're right and they're taking major heat over this. If so, I hope they crack down hard on this fraternity party and treat them like the scum they are. No privledges, no hamburgers, no poker, no nothin'. Put them in general population where they belong. I'm infuriated. :furious:

Yep...it appears that the Interior Minister, who must have been getting some heat, is passing the buck over to the Minister of Justice to respond to requests from the media regarding that day and the photo. I bet there's some interesting back room meetings going on right now.

Ha...so they do seem a little perturbed that Joran and his new legal team are dissing the translator that they must have recommended at the time of his interrogation and subsequent confession. Someone who was recognised and on their list. They're not going to back him up on the lack of an "official" translater/interpreter defence it seems. They provide lists for their citizens to choose from and as far as they're concerned, that's what Joran and/or his legal representative, which he apparently also chose, did.

Joran van der Sloot’s Murder Trial comes to a Screeching Halt!
Posted: 05:15 PM ET

<snipped>

Breaking news: Is Joran van der Sloot's shocking and gruesome alleged confession in the killing of a Peruvian woman he met at a casino about to be thrown out on a technicality? Will justice ever be served to the Dutchman also suspected in the disappearance of American teen Natalee Holloway on her Aruba senior class trip? Nancy Grace has the latest!

Nancy Grace is discussing Joran now.....

  • #191
He will be set free if the court rules the confession was illegally obtained according to Jean Casares on NG's show.

(what happened to the other evidence??? :waitasec:)

Here we go again :( I wish they would stop trying to make money off of the photos JVDS.

NGShow:

Photo? What kind of partying in the TV room? With his BFsF?

  • #194
Caller: how can throw out confessions? had legal rep; look at his hollow eyes; no soul; tattoo on chest, etc.

NG: hold...going to commercial

  • #195
JC: tattoo reminds me of another one-bella vita

  • #196
Caller: re mongoloid phrase
Psych: who cares how he sees himself; she doesn't believe premeditated; just his rage; couldn't stop; a monster

  • #197
NG: Aruban prosecutors making no moves to even question him

  • #198
Caller: can't they rearrest him (if confession thrown out)
SStevens: lose only one part of the case>there's tons of physical evidence

  • #199
Why does NG resort to such histrionics in her broadcasts? Even if his confession is thrown out (which I don't believe it will be), this doesn't mean he walks out of prison as if nothing happened. They have plenty of evidence to convict even without his confession.

And as JC just pointed out, a confession is a mitigating factor in Peru for a lesser sentence. So IF he does get it thrown out, he just may be shooting himself in the foot.

(waving to Epiphany!)
