I'm just catching up with events--just finished the threads. It was inevitable that this psychopath would kill again and get caught. He got caught the last time; it was only the Aruban judicial system and his family influence that saved him last time.

For a long time, I've thought it is likely that JVDS is a serial rapist and so assumed that there were victims before and after Natalee, who may not even know what happened because of date-rape drugs. My assumption was that Natalee's death was not premeditated, that it was an unforeseen consequence of drugging her. Now I wonder if he is actually a serial murderer, even more than a rapist. Maybe Natalee was the first, or maybe she was a point on an escalation.

I also want to say that I am very glad that no one can continue to blame Beth Holloway or insinuate that JVDS is just a typical "guy." But how sad that another young woman had to die because Aruba refused and still refuses to do the right thing. I don't buy the argument I've seen that JVDS's family were afraid of him and therefore defended him and are victims. If were afraid they should have and could have seen that he went to prison for life.

:seeya: Jean Casares is filling in for Nancy Grace tonight. She's showing photos of JVDS in custody today being transferred to Peruvian custody. Murder weapon confirmed as a baseball bat.

I do hold out hope that Deepak may talk now. Paul van der Sloot is dead, Joran is in HUGE trouble in Peru.... I really hold out hope that Deepak may confess what he knows one day. If it were up to me, if I were Beth & Dave, I'd be willing to work with the Aruban prosecutors and agree to to offering him immunity for just telling everything he knows. Just so they could finally know the truth.

EXCELLENT idea Beach!! :thumb: :crossfingers:

edited to add - only 7 mores pages to catch up with you all!! Had to go eat dinner... LOL!

JeanC: police have confirmed the baseball bat as murder weapon.
Psychopath - a very, very dangerous man.

The girl's father, Ricardo Flores, told The Associated Press that video cameras tracked the couple as they walked before dawn Sunday to van der Sloot's hotel from the casino in Lima's upscale Miraflores district where they met playing poker.
He said he doesn't want the death penalty for van der Sloot, only justice. In Peru, murder carries a prison sentence of up to 35 years.
"I haven't slept since Monday," a devastated Flores, his eyelids heavy and speech slurred, said in an interview at his Lima home. "I'm waiting for him to step foot on Peruvian soil." Then, he said, he'd take a sleeping pill or simply collapse from exhaustion.

NG - baseball bat as murder weapon!

Kind of an odd, bulky item to carry along on travels around SA, no? How do you get on a plane with one of those?

  • #730
Bull - I don't buy it.
No need for bat for robbery.
Psychopath - obviously, other motives.

  • #731
He was traveling with a baseball bat? Uh - I'm sorry. I have a hard time with the bat thing. How is that possible? A lamp makes sense - but come on.

Why would the US provide him with a pro bono atty.? They have nothing to do with a dutch criminal in Peru. And what US atty would offer themselves to help this guy? That just makes me sick to think about.

I don't think they meant the US paying for the lawyer but I wouldn't put it past some attorney here jumping on the case for the publicity, we have seen it before on other cases....like KC...and yes it is sickening.

WTF?! First I've heard of that. I read they took a tennis racket from the room, but a freakin' baseball bat?!

A genuine bombshell, for once.

I know, first I heard a tennis racket....

Body bruised from head to toe.
Smashed up, etc.

  • #736
Me too, Tennis racket yes, baseball bat, thats over the edge. Why would he have it?

NG producer on just confirmed with LE what the murder weapon was ~ a baseball bat found in the hotel room along with Stephany's body. She doesn't know details where in the room it was found, but has been hearing LE has a "mountain of evidence" against JVDS.

CNN senior Latin American affairs editor on. Suspect crossed the border into Peru a few hours ago; officials preparing homicide charges. Chaotic situation, multitude of people shouting obscenities at him on arrival. JVDS had to wear bulletproof vest for his protection. Showing video of "perp walk". :woohoo:

Reporter in Lima: Visible anger of crowd.
Close to a mob scene>bullet proof vest for protection.

  • #739
What a filthy coward, beating a woman with a bat.

"A mountain of evidence"--good news. Also people shouting obscenities-- more good news. Now he's got to be thinking that he is in trouble that he can't get out of.

If he intended to rob her, the bat might have been his weapon of choice. And maybe he just likes to hurt people. Bats are cheap, legal and accessible.

Does seem like extreme violence....maybe had it to protect himself??
