The lady on HLN Issues just said police confirmed the weapon used to kill Stephany was a baseball bat.

This is so wild, so many versions of everything. I thought earlier today they said a (tennis) racket.

  • #742
IMO, tennis racket would not inflict the damage described by brother last night on NGS, nor his bare hands - paraphrased: my sister was unrecognizable, etc.

He was traveling with a baseball bat? Uh - I'm sorry. I have a hard time with the bat thing. How is that possible? A lamp makes sense - but come on.
If the victim was into sports, say tennis and softball, she may have had both of those items in her car...a jeep I think. (They did say at some point in time that she was athletic.)

NG producer: JVDS flown on small Cessna plane to Peru. Will arrive in Lima in a couple of hours (?).

Caller wants to know where his mother is and if he's spoken to her. Producer: she's in Aruba, family attorney says she's shocked & devastated. She didn't know where he was until she heard on tv.

Natalee's aunt, Linda Allison on the show. Jean asking her about first hearing about JVDS wanted in Peruvian murder. She says her first thought was "certainly this is not happening again....it brings up all the raw emotions we dealt with 5 yrs. ago". JC mentioning Stephany's family wants to make contact with Natalee's family. LA expresses family sympathy to S's family.

Good thinking, but JVDS would have to take out of car, and it would have been on the camera's.

NG show: caller wants to know if any reports of noise, etc. coming from the room (during the murder). Guest: JVDS can't claim an accident or any type of self-defense. JC stating again that a baseball bat was the weapon.

  • #747
Caller: extent of injuries>noise out of her room - other people in the hotel report it to desk, etc.?

PBrown: probably try as his defense; he's cooked
JeanC: again, repeating that bball bat has been confirmed by Peruvian authorities

this isn't sitting right, he would have taken it with him. he had too much time. leaving a weapon is what u do when your running out the door.

a quote from the article...

Según contó el enviado especial de El Comercio a Tacna, Alfredo Alí Alava, el presunto asesino de Stephany Flores lucía un rostro desencajado, llevaba esposas y vestía un chaleco antibalas. According to the envoy told El Comercio to Tacna, Alfredo Alava Ali, the alleged murderer of Stephany Flores wore a contorted face, wearing handcuffs and wearing a bulletproof vest.

I read earlier someone mention... SNIPERS!!!?? :waitasec:

had to post another quote from there - JUST in case someone didn't go to the link! And BOY you guys move fast!! Already another page...

More than nine vehicles that made up the convoy took Joran van der Sloot to the border with Peru from Arica

Maybe it was in her car? Maybe he got it after checking into the hotel? They're saying it was found in his room so obviously it got there somehow. MOO

That's what I am thinking. Maybe that's why he went out for 'coffee' - to get the bat. Perhaps she was sleeping even and he just laid into her.

I think the motive here was to rob her of the $5K and that's all.

I hope they have DNA otherwise, it sounds suspicious.

  • #754
surveillance tape would show him carrying in a bat somewhere during his stay.

what about a knife, First reports were that she had also been stabbed, so is there 2 murder weapons?

Peru's justice system, like most of Western Europe(UK excluded) and most of Latin America, is based on the Napoleonic code. So no jury trial. Just experienced judges. No bamboozling by defense attorneys.

Exactly, rotterdam.

I researched this, too and even more  for me - in Peru, the accused is presumed guilty and the burden of proof lies with the defendant. He has to prove his innocence. This is no small feat. Totally opposite of the U.S. system of "innocent until proven guilty".

I didn't hear them say it was found in the room. Maybe he did take it with him and tossed it somewhere - or left in in her car that he ditched. Who knows...

VDS: Young adult traveling in SA, Asia, etc. Hostels, low-range hotels, gambles, drugs, etc. May be recognized by some as he travels. Carry a gun? No. Could be junior size bat - metal or wood, in suitcase, knapsack placed under bed in hotel/hostels as he slept.

I buy it.

Last I heard the coffee trip was around 8:40am and he supposedly left the hotel shortly afterward. I'm still thinking she was killed earlier. I wonder if any of his blood stained clothes were found in the room? I can't believe he didn't get any of her blood on him and have to clean himself up. MOO

NG show: Stephany won $5K that night in the casino and it was gone so it is believed JVDS stole it. :furious:
