I didn't watch 20/20 but I swear that there was a photo being shown the first day that showed a body on the floor, covered in a white sheet or blanket, with dark hair sticking out. I vividly remember it because I thought it was very tasteless to be showing that picture so soon....I would put money on the fact it was shown on HLN, since thats the only news station I watch. I have tried to find it since reading this thread (not to be morbid, but because there seemed to be interest) and I can't find it doing a google search.

Many other countries release photos of crime scenes and bodies to the press. It's not like here.

As for her "winnings" - we've seen several different accounts that $5,000. was taken from her and that she had won it at a casino. The casino will be able to verify this and the amount. I don't think she won it from JVDS - $5k was a third of his money (the 15k from the extortion sting). But, if they (Stephany and JVDS) were playing at the same table, I guess its possible that he had accumulated that much during play, he was sitting sorta pretty thinking he had parlayed some of his money and then he looses it to her! Now, THAT really speaks to motive. Either way - the casino already knows ALL those details as to the "who won what". Would love to know how much money he had on him when they caught him - that will speak VOLUMES!!!!

I know and I just think that is such a violation of privacy to the victim and family......................I for one will NOT look at the actual pics out of respect for her and the family.

I'm enjoying my lazy Saturday morning with coffee and I have to smile thinking about that "prison" and JVDS becoming a resident. I will betcha that he HAS NO CLUE what the prison is like. He's never come across as an "information seeker" or even a "scholar" - so where would he have had the opportunity to see what we have all seen now? hahahahahahaha

Maybe LE will show it to him - give him some popcorn and a gun with one bullet or a cyanide pill.

I was scared to death just watching that. My thoughts were of the camera man. I kinda think the camera dude probably had 2 BIG BODYGUARDS possibly with serious weapons next to him at all times. Did you see how some would "look at the camera" - you can just see them trying to "figger out" how to snatch it (or anything else they had). SCARY STUFF!

I think the reporting has been pretty darn good considering how fast and furious the information has been coming in. Factor in the unusual language and cultural difficulties and misunderstandings plus the usual sorting out and confirmation of the initial facts that happen with every new case. All things considered, I think it's coming together nicely. :twocents:

I totally agree. I remember the intense frustration during the Holloway case, when we were forced to be on island (Aruba) time. Things moved at a snails pace. We grew accomstom to hearing, "the judge won't be here for another 30 days" or "the judge (the one and only judge) just left for vacation" (in the midst of a major murder investigation???). Patience in large doses was something we were forced to acquire, like it or not. I felt terrible for Beth and her family.

So for JVS to be expelled from Chile so quickly, it's like a breath of fresh air (minus his stench), and so unlike Aruba. It seems like these are people that have a strong desire for a swift road to justice, unlike Aruba, where I got the impression they thought if they stalled long enough, everyone would go home and they could sweep Natalee's murder under the rug and let their golden boy remain free to flit about the globe. They were not prepared for Beth H, that's for sure.

Sorry to get carried away, but I am more than satisfied with how things are being handled in South America.

After watching this video, I no longer feel the need to have another cup of coffee...my anxiety level went from 0-100 in that 30 second video clip!!! I cannot imagine what it would feel like to have an entire country hungry for your blood! I really hope they house him somewhere safe until these families get some answers!

Yes scary...I can't wait until its on TV so I can watch it in slow motion. Im gonna watch it again and again....That camera was right up to his face...LOL

When Stephany's father asked LE for his daughter's belongings, he was told that all they found in the room was an empty wallet and her cellphone.

Her chain necklace, bracelet, earrings, rings, money are nowhere to be found. Her father had given her $1,000 Dollars cash for her to buy a laptop. She put that money in her wallet and also Stephany has her own money as well, as he always gives his children an allowance.

One of her friends had said that Stephany had won some money at the casino, and asked if that money was found in her jeep. At the time, when Stephany first went missing, they didn't care about material things, but now they are trying to determine if robbery was the motive. He also mentions that Stephany had a Wii; they only found the 2 controls. If LE finds a Wii in Joran's possession, they can check the serial number against the receipt Stephany's parents have, that would be the proof, and if her jewelry is also found in his rucksack or handbag, even better.

Because they thought it was a kidnapping, Stephany's family asked LE to get all the evidence (fingerprints, etc.) from her jeep. Forensics unit spent 6 hours processing the jeep and said there were plenty of fingerprints.

This morning the NYP states that it was a tennis racket that Joran used to bludgeon Stephany. It also states that there was evidence that he tried to rape her and she resisted.

He *may* have had as much as $45,000. Here's what was said on Greta last night re: the extortion sting:

Bo Dietl: ... "he wanted a quarter million dollars. The agreement was give him $20,000 up front, $10,000 CASH (which was given to him and this was all videotaped with all his statements), $15,000 was wire transfer. Why the wire transfer? This is where we have him on wire transfer of money on extortion." ...

It looks to me like he got at least $25,000 ($15,000 transfer and $10,000 cash). Maybe $45,000 - not sure about the $20,000 up front.

I taped this last night and typed it word for word from the DVR. Not sure what difference this makes in the general scheme of things but it might mean he had way more than originally thought.

(Does anyone know where to get the transcripts for the show?)
