Panthera, at this point I'm sure he wants to convince his mommy that he's not guilty and wants her financial support for bribeing the prison guards for extra luxuries such as an actual mattress and some semi-decent food in the prison he will be locked away in for years to come. All this is just my opinion based on the article above about the Dutch guy who blogged about visiting Peru's Dutch prisoners.
Oh I'm sure you are right. But in addition to the money, I think it's possible that for the first time in his life, he may realize he is in a situation that no one can get him out of ~ except maybe his mother since his father is no longer alive. MOO

After Natalie his father was involved. I think he then had to protect his father. Just a thought, but I have seen kids display very bazaar behavior when they are protecting someone they love. Just a thought. imo

From the description Stephany's brothers gave on Nancy's show, I can believe the "badly beaten" part. I think the baseball bat got lost in translation somehow yesterday, but it is good to see the bloody clothes being found with JVDS is still part of the news report. MOO

I'll have to flip a coin here, I guess. It's so conflicting though. We've seen an article today that said the authorities didn't want or wouldn't let (can't remember) family members view Stephanie's body although, I fully believe the brother. Then there's Mark Fuhrman who gets his story from not one but 2 MEs and says the scene was not covered in blood which one would expect from being "badly beaten".

I agree about his clothes.

RR, I think she is referring to the fact that Joran is NOT American. LOL

If you are referring to mine, yes...yes, I did mean that. I also meant to put that he was Dutch but forgot. :blushing:

Not that I am putting down all Dutch people, just that Joran isn't American.

Wasn't it room 203 or some such? It's a high rise, nonetheless. Unless the "real" perp was spiderman, I'm not going to worry about anyone coming through his hostel window. LOL

I wouldn't be surprised if he said it was spiderman. In Natalee's case, initially he wrongfully implicated two security guards. It will be interesting to see who he tries to throw under the bus this time.

Can you explain, BB?

IIRC, room 309. With the clear, time-stamped surveillance video there is no way someone else could've gone in there. And, even without the video, how coincidental would it have to be that someone did it right after he left? The ME can establish the day she died due to the level of decomposition. And then there are the bloody clothes....MOO

Hi Epiphany, I remember in the photos of them together in the casino where she was sitting at a table, she did have on a jacket. She also had what looked like a silk scarf on her lap sitting there. I also saw a photo somewhere of her wearing that scarf around her neck. When I first saw it on her lap I thought it was a big green napkin. lol ETA: Whoops, thought I was responding to Beyond Belief's post. ;}

Ooooh do you have a link for the casino pictures or video tape?? Thanks in advance.

OMG! That never even occurred to me. {{{shiver}}}

Maybe he had drugs, and they went back to "his" place to indulge...makes sense to me.

I'm pretty sure I recall he used a key in the door when he opened it and flipped on the light switch on the wall. And when he was leaving alone, they showed the light still on and him pulling the door shut and sort of making sure the door was locked by pulling on the knob.

ETA: after reading my response, I'm starting to think I watch wayyy too many reality crime shows that I noticed that detail (lights, knob, etc). :crazy: Either that, or my ex cop husband has me so trained about paying attention to the smallest details. :sleuth:

That's a good thing marmar! Especially here!:)

Now that makes sense, Southernvagirl. I couldn't figure out why the girl looked like she was hiding her face yet was not walking like she was impaired. So why was she walking like a zombie. Could it have been plain ol' drugs, not just date drug?

I really studied those tapes at the hotel. Looking closely at the reception looking for a variation of what was out and placed on the early tape complared to his departure tape. I don't see anything different.

I believe Stephany knew these places have video and didn't want to be taped. I also believe she had done this before. Being an experience gambler she knew her way around.

What I don't understand is how drunk, tired and an outright mess Joran looks at 5;30 and how rested and quite sober he looks at 8;45.

Have they ever released where he caught the cab for the long ride, was it near where the car was parked?

I don't think that video stills show the pair entering his hotel room. I think that they're entering an elevator. (That would explain the absence of a do-not-disturb sign.) I might be wrong.

I apologize if some one already suggested this.

Here is the video of Joran and Stephany entering the hotel room, then Joran leaving the room alone.

I haven't read anything lately about the DND sign on the door, but according to this CNN article...

A hotel worker is seen in a surveillance video speaking to van der Sloot as he is leaving the hotel, Gonzalo said. When investigators questioned the workers, he told them that van der Sloot told him "don't bother my girl." Van der Sloot indicated that he would be returning to the room, according to the worker.

Hi Skittles, Thanks. I haven't watched Greta in such a long time I didn't know she has a Sat show. xox

She doesn't. This is a special just for Joran!

Greta is having a 'special' for this case. I don't think she's normally on Saturday night.

I read somewhere that his mother wrote him off after his father died. Sorry no link but it would be impossible for me to go back through all these threads to find it. I also recall that after he implicated his father in Natalee's disappearance about 2 years ago?? his parents threw the towel in.

Actually I think I read that too, that she stated she hasn't spoken to him since February? Which is when I think his Dad passed away.

I had never heard the story about him implicating his Dad though geez. That's pretty pathetic.

That was my first impression, too, but if you watch the video you'll see him open the door (regular doorknob) and turn on the light.

I also noticed in this still photo at link below, as he's leaving the next morning, he makes sure to turn and face the security camera.

When going into the room the previous night, he kept his head down as he opened the door. The fact he showed his face to the camera at 8 a.m. when leaving makes me think he was trying to set up an alibi. I'm now convinced the two coffees were also a ruse. He took two coffees in, left with one, returned, then left again, making sure to turn toward the camera as if to say "see, I'm leaving and she's still in there having coffee". :twocents:
