I'm going to respond to your post by simply saying that what you have written about Anita Van der Sloot is far from the truth. I know Anita and have corresponded with her many times throughout the Holloway case and I can assure you that you will not find a kinder person anywhere. I'm really offended that people here are blaming her for what Joran has done. I've hesitated to post in this forum because my opinion differs greatly than the majority of this board and also because of the respect that I do have for Anita but to set the record straight, I can assure all of you that Anita is not a person that insists that Joran lie, cheat, steal, or whatever the case may be.

Please feel free to continue posting whatever it is you want to post here. This is a forum, after all--we all post our opinions, counteropinions, etc., and everyone has a right to an opinion including you. If we disagree with your post, it is not personal, again, this is a forum where opinions and ideas are discussed and debated. Anita VDS may very well present herself as kind to you or others. She may very well be the kindest person on the face of the earth. Sometimes good people do bad things. I heard it from her own mouth that she sent Joran to a psychiatrist --yet she refused to even consider the possibility that he had any involvment with Natalee's disappearance--even though she knew Joran falsely accused two black security guards and repeatedly lied to LE. I saw her repeatedly take to the media to defend her poor "Joran" yet not once did I see her apologize to the falsely accused security guards or to Natalee's family for Joran's lying, false accusations which led to a delay in the real investigation, etc. I heard her say that she wanted the truth to be told--yet she refused to let them search her entire property. If she were truly kind she would have allowed it just so Natalee's family would have the peace of mind that no stone was left unturned.

Maybe he told her he needed to go back to his room to get more money and would she go with him? Once there - he wouldn't want her to wait somewhere (of course, its not safe) and to just "run up to the room" with him and get the money.

I am still very insterested in how he got her to go to his room. Her family and friends have also said that she would have never gone with any man to his hotel room.

bolded by me.

Now that makes sense. Sounds innocent and ordinary! If he had sort of befriended her, there wouldn't be a need for suspicion--although I wonder if the little hairs on the back of her neck were standing up at that point? You know, the gut feeling of "danger" that people tend to ignore....

How true La_cavaliere, without paying 1,500 in Peruvian money he will not have a bed and will have to sleep on the floor or a toilet.

Yesterday we all read this excellent accounting by a Dutch reporter that went to the prison to see the Dutch inmates there. So much info was given about the true situation in a Peruvian prison. If someone knows where that link is tucked it would be a great one to have Bean insert into post #1 of this thread so it can easily be found by WS posters IMO. xox

Here is the link to that blog from yesterday:

http://www.travbuddy.com/travel-blogs/56482/Caught-Peru-1

Beside a very descriptive report on the conditions I found this statement rather alarming from what we are use to:
"They where sentenced to 25 years in this prison without speaking (to)a lawyer or a interprenter."

This person also has a second blog about the prisons here:

Joran's mother is NOT at issue here. If you discuss her - comments MUST be related to the case at hand. Personal opinions should be respectful or not posted.

If the thread goes to a bunch of bickering, we will lock it up.

Exclusieve beelden Joran van der Sloot

Exclusive video Joran van der Sloot

De Telegraaf heeft exclusieve beelden gemaakt van Joran van der Sloot, op het moment dat hij net de grens over was gezet vanuit Chili naar Peru.

'De Telegraaf' has taken an exclusive video of Joran van der Sloot the moment he just crossed the border from Chile to Peru.

Op de beelden is te zien hoe een zwijgende Joran, gehuld in een kogelvrij vest van Interpol, wordt overgedragen door de Chileense autoriteiten aan de Peruaanse autoriteiten.

The video shows a silent Joran, wearing a bulletproof vest, being 'handed over' by Chile authorities to Peruvian authorities.

The video can be viewed here. I hope there's someone here who can understand what they're sayin'.

I'm becoming more confused with each new bit of info.

Now we hear video tracked the couple walking before dawn Sunday from the
casino to Joran's hotel. (a 15 minute walk). Where was her car? Why walk?
Didn't we all think her car would be with her wherever she was at the time?
I'm totally confused on this. Had she already left her car at his place?
I wouldn't think so, but at the end of the story that's where it was.

Had anyone else wondered how be smuggled the murder weapon into the room?
Was he carrying a bag large enough to hold a tennis racket?
I got to noticing the large, "loose shirt" he was wearing and thinking maybe he
could even conceal one under that shirt??? Anyway if a tennis racket was found
to be the murder weapon- to me that proves premeditation!! That is not an item
usually supplied with a hotel room!

I don't think the tennis racquet was smuggled into the room. Joran was known to play tennis. People who play tennis often bring their racquets with them on vacation, just as people who play golf bring gold clubs.

Racquet would fit in duffle bag large enough. Also, did the Chile authorities search the duffle bag? I only saw the backpack.

I, too, caught the bit about them walking from the casino to his hotel. But then they had already said she drove her car to the hotel.

We have heard that he took her car (a jeep cherokee) and abandoned it some 50 blocks away from the hotel.

So, we are grappling with another inconsistency - did they WALK to the hotel from the casino or not? Where exactly was her car and do we know that he did drive it?

Thank you for posting. And of course you have your own view of someone you know and care about. Speaking for myself only, I don't "blame" the mother for what the grown son has done. But all parents have a choice when a child is arrested for a serious crime that he has committed: believe the child's denials and protestations, get the best attorney, and fight to keep the child out of prison; or recognize that terrible acts have consequences and encourage the child to confess and make the best deal possible. Joran's mother choose the former. She and her husband also stood by while Arubans and their supporters in the media and on the internet trashed the victim's family, particularly Beth Holloway Twitty. Joran's mother has paid a terrible price for raising a psychopath. But her first reaction is to be shocked that he killed again? Most of us are only shocked that he was so brazen and so easily caught. Her reaction suggests that she still doesn't see her boy very clearly. It's sad, but not nearly as sad as what Natalee's family and friends have endured, or what Stephany's family is enduring, or what these two lovely girls endured at Joran's hands.

Thank you , and I totally agreed with you at first and then part of my heart said, "I'm not sure. I'm not sure that being the mother of someone who could do the things that J has been accused of might not be a 'fate worse than death'."
There is so much sadness all around for all the people involved in these cases , as in the CMA case. As it stands now , though, the issue here is for the truth to come out and justice be served........whatever it takes.

GVS was a major disappointment for me. I cut short a cousin's call just to see the publicized program. It was totally wasted time. The last minute is right. Nothing until then! So disappointed.

Respectfully snipped...

This has confused me as well. There's a video of them walking to the hostel, but statements relay that they sat in her car and at the end of it all it's 50 blocks away. Something's missing in all of this......

I read a link today that Peru's Interior Minister has essentially gagged the Peruvian press unless they have his consent. I think that's a good idea.

On Geraldo Rivera's show last night I liked when GR said that Aruba had continuously kissed Joran's Bu** and that the way he was treated now by LE in Peru was how he should have been treated in Aruba. It makes me sick how his case was handled there and how the Holloway family was treated.

As far as Stephany Flores demeanor in the video. I don't see it as her being drugged. Not at this point, anyway. I see her being ashamed to be with Joran, and to be in this place, it seems she was very aware of the cameras, and clearly didn't want to be recognized. Which makes sense since she came from a very prominent family.

Just curious why you think she was there? TIA

Maybe he "borrowed" money from her at the casino and told her he would pay her back, but the money was back at his hotel. ??

I'm not sure. I think maybe because they had been drinking and her age. I remember doing things at that age that in hindsight weren't the best decisions. There was just something about that video where she seemed ashamed to me. That video was very chilling to me, Joran's arrogance at the front desk, did he know at that point he would kill her? And that last scene of her following him into the room. So sad...

The throwing of the keys is his message to himself that his mission is almost accomplished (sex (in his mind)). He is congratulating himself on a job almost done.

I don't think that he premeditated killing her. He lost his temper and took out his frustrations of life on her.

On a side note, I think it's strange for a young girl to hangout at casinos playing poker at all hours of the night. I'm not blaming her or anything but it struck me as strange that a university student from a prominent family would carry herself this way. Maybe it was her way of rebelling since she had problems with her sexual identity and she became addicted to gambling. Either way, she certainly did not deserve this.

It's sad that men like Joran can almost always certainly find women like Stephany or Natalee who for one reason or another are not aware of the evils of this world and are so easily swayed and talked into getting into a car or going to a hotel room for the last time.
My daughter loves to gamble. She doesn't get to do it often, but she thinks it's a lot of fun. She has spent time in SA and tells me that kids don't go out till very late (midnight would be considered early). It's just a different way of life. I don't fault Stephany for going out on a Saturday night. That's what kids do. She just met the wrong person!!

Maybe something to do with her being mad or sad after the discussion with father about not wanting to go out again (if that part was true). I say this because by her text sounds like she was going to her room. Perhaps they argued again and she left. Runs into JVDS she tells him her story and he tells her to come on and hang out in his room where something terribly goes wrong...Just a thought...

This is interesting - it's about the Brugmansia tree, one of the most notorious plants in South America. [It also grows in Florida where it is known as angel's trumpet.]

"commonly known for its criminal uses, however, particularly as a dried, powdered form, known as 'burundanga' where it is slipped into someone's drink making them liable to assault, theft or worse.

There is an interesting popular belief about the drug, namely that it removes free will. The idea being that you have all your mental faculties but will do whatever is suggested to you without resistance, so criminals can get you to take out money from the cash machine or hand them the keys to your house.

This has never been tested though, so we simply don't know, although one study indicates that scopolamine reduces our ability to keep information in mind but leaves the processes that manipulate it unaffected, perhaps suggesting that victims remain cognitively sharp, but mentally empty.

I was thinking about Stephanie's apparent compliance while following JVS through the hotel and happened to read this.

[Wow - that is really scary if true.]

You know I thought maybe Stephany looked like she wasn't feeling well and Joran might have said he had some Alka-Seltzer or something similar in his room, they could just stop in and get it. Just plop it in a glass of water and drink it before she goes home? But then, if they did walk 15 minutes from casino to hotel instead of driving, then that shoots that theory, as she wouldn't have wanted to walk instead of drive if she wasn't feeling well. Clearly, she was not in a happy mood, so that is why I thought she wasn't feeling too good.

I guess we won't be able to figure out a lot of the whys and what ifs, until we know more about their actions before entering the hotel room.
