What if they don't believe his confession? I would think they would still investigate the crime. What happens if they decide to charge him with a premeditated or aggravated murder? My guess is that it would be the same as here and he would have an opportunity to prove that it was a crime of passion (anger).

IMO, there's got to be something in it for him...maybe he thinks he will be sent back to Aruba or US ...

In light of the confession - what do we think we think happened?

I think she made a poor judgement call, went to crash in his room as platonic friends - he may have thought he'd eventually woo her. Someone mentioned she took of her pants to sleep - maybe.... The confession is changing my opinion on what happened and why she went to his room in the first place. I watched teh video of her walking fast to and from casino and then in the hotel. I think that is her walk - not a very graceful walk.

If his story is true, then probably what happened is she just took his laptop to use the internet to check her email or something like that, but because it was the anniversary of Natalee's murder it was probably on his internet home page.

Kat I share your feelings about Joran. It's all about saving his own self and blaming his victims and taking control (or feeling like he is to himself). ugh. I hope the Peruvians put him away for a very long time for the safety of all of society.

I sooo want to see what's on his laptop!! I wonder if Peru will make it public knowledge?:waitasec:

I'm quite sure they'd still have to investigate the crime. I doubt a confession only would be enough. Altho I get the impression they have a lot of evidence against him.

Hi Beyond Belief, I am interested in what you have read as well as why you are not comfortable. tia
just different people who went to jail swiftly, one was actually a secret trial of some sort, just stuff on the net.

Great news ......:woohoo: :woohoo:

Now I hope they got him to confess to where he put Natalie...

It's not looking the way I had hoped - that he confessed because they found evidence of NH's murder, etc on his computer. Looks as if he's saying, she was on his laptop without permission...

Yes. He's confessed. Says that Stephany got on his laptop and accessed stuff about Natalee and he found out and went into a rage and killed her.

Thanks. I couldn't believe my ears and they gave no details so I immediately came here. The woman mentioned the name of three different prisons and said they are maximum security. Then said he could get 15 to 35 years. Fifteen would be way to few imo.

I'll go back a few pages and read now.

Costalpilot; i'm gonna wait and see what comes up about their laws. I don't know how similiar they are to ours. Plus, I don't think they are going to fail Stephanys family, and allow JVS to spin it his way. Even if it is manslaughter they have him running and they probably will get some extra incentive from the US.

Like Nana46 said this "genius" didn't have password protection on his computer.

OME

its not gonna work,,,...they aren't gonna buy his bs story...this isn't Aruba. they are gonna nail his a$$ bigtime. he is done.

welcome to Hell JVS.

This thread is flying so fast! I lost the post and poster! I'm so sorry.

A member posted that if the charge is reduced to manslaughter then the sentence is 20 years.

I wonder if that is the max sentence for manslaughter?

Also earlier today a talking head said that this particular prison does have a section for foreigners (IIRC its called the British Pavillion or something to that effect) where JVDS might be housed instead of with the others in that prison.

Also the TH made the comment when JVDS was facing a possible sentence for murder of up to 35 years that JVDS would only have to serve one third to one half of that sentence.

Anyone else hear this? TIA.

IMHO that significantly lowers his sentence if he only has to serve for manslaughter and also what about the seperate area for foreigners?

I knew this would go like this. All the cases I have been reading were rushed thru like this.
I for one am not comfortable with this.

I agree BB. In this article it does say: "Peruvian President Alan Garcia told reporters Friday that van der Sloot would have to be tried in Flores' death before any extradition request could be considered". I wonder if that still stands now that he has confessed ???

Ok............explain to me how his confessing or lying about her being on his computer and saw things she shouldn't sent him into a rage and he snapped her neck...........he then proceeded to do a heck of alot more damage to her body! He's getting the max; he can confess to the moon for all I care!

Curious...just trying to understand your perspective. What cases are you referring to were rushed? And what about this case resembles those, rendering you uncomfortable with Joran's confession?

TIA

He truely is a monster. Poor Stephany and Natalie and their families. And his own Mother who he's brought grief to also.

What?? Unbelievable.

Does anyone know if he has talked to a lawyer yet after he was detained? I have a horrible migraine and can hardly think straight...ugh...

Geraldo reported that a Puerto Rican singer in another casino he was in initially recognized him and alerted security but nothing came of it. Later, Joran met her in another casino.

The flood gates are opening now!! We're gonna hear all kinds of stories from people about JVS! The only problem is trying to filter the truth from people trying to cash in or gain attention!:banghead:
