What!!!????!!! If his recounted 'play by play' of what happend 'is factual', he should have had a bruise where she struck him first? Correct??? :liar:

He claimed (reports linked @ WS) that she slapped him. Highly improbably that the red mark from the slap caused a bruise on Joran.

And, IMO, a slap NEVER warrants your neck being snapped in half.

I once slapped my teenage son when he was being completely disrespectful. He had a red cheek, but no bruising in the morning.

So sue me! :blushing:

Are you sure it was $50,000 a month??? That's a lot of d*mn money in my book.

If that's true where did his family get $600,000 a year to give a kid for an allowance?

I thought I read somewhere that he got an allowance of $50,000 a year from his father when he died but I can't provide a link. Sorry.

Plus, from what I understand, Beth Twitty has been working nonstop to open a center that benefits the families of all missing children - to make it easier for them to know what to do, a place for them to turn. Ironically, it just opened last week at the same time Stephany's murder came to light.

I'll try to find a link that describes the center. I'm pretty sure it's in Washington DC.

Thank you and there is no need to find the link as I have seen the website and posted in on Friday.

Beth's purpose as stated by her: The center says it will provide families of missing persons help with managing their crises and give students advice on traveling safely.

BBM and I remain .... :lipssealed:

Adding the lie to the list... nah. What's the point.

This guy makes Casey look... uh, less bad.
(Was going to say 'look good', but that's going too far)

I'm still catching up, so my apologies if this has already been posted. But it seem very relevant to what was just being discussed........

"Just after news broke that van der Sloot was wanted for the Flores murder, Dutch journalist Jaap Amesz interviewed a friend of van der Sloot's who described him as broke, "completely desperate and pretty depressed."

"I was in touch with Joran until right before May 30," the friend told Amesz. "He was in Peru. That was known. In Aruba, he couldn't deal with it anymore. His relationship with his mother was getting worse. He had gambled money away again. This is what preceded his flight to Peru. Right before the weekend, it was clear that Joran was in financial trouble, and he was pretty confused. Driven by hunger, the fear of not being able to pay for his hotel. He desperately needed money. I have never seen Joran so frustrated as in this period." "

I still believe that the murder of SF was over money. He was losing at the tables, she was winning. She had it and he wanted it (people have killed for less $). To me it's that simple.

He is money hungry and the fact that he was willing to blackmail Beth just proves it to me. He is pure evil.

See them here if you haven't been to La Republica.

Thanks for the video link, Truckbomb. Joran is toast. It looks like Peru is wiser than the USA with video documentation. The video's at the low budget hostel are even better in quality than the cash racking casino. Amazing. Hard to refute this stuff. Especially when all the other people are in the photos and the casinos and police know who they are, too. Thanks again!

Wow. Thank you, truckbomb! I haven't seen that video before.

I put a copy of the link in the "translation thread" so it can be translated.

Wow. Thank you, truckbomb! I haven't seen that video before.

If he slipped her the roofie at the casino, shouldn't there be a video of that too.

Thanks SWAG. :)

Does anyone know why his mother would have cut him off his monthly allowance? I have also read he was not on speaking terms, I'm not sure if that was with his mother.

He has been desparate for money, asking everyone for money, I'm just wondering what happened with his mother that was serious enough to cut him off, tough love? and now considering he is in custody for the murder of yet another girl, I'm wondering if his mother in fact would not help him and would finally realize he is better off in a prison?

Thoughts are welcomed.[/QUO

Hello Gaurdian,

I have not seen any info released as to why his mom "cut him off" but she did make the statment (sorry I can't recall the link) that she had not spoken with him for sometime and was not aware of where he was until she got the call about SF. It does appear though that she is helping him as she flew to peru immediately and he now has a private lawyer instead of a public defender. It seems that if he was broke and all of the sudden has legal counsel that either she or someone else has paid for this on his behalf.

Sorry, I don't know why the quote did not come out properly.

Exactly. That's what I found interesting about the article I posted. If he's desperate for money, he'll take whatever he can get easily. MOO

word to the wise. Self editing can do a world of good if you happen to get to it before I do.
I am taking a little break now and then I will be back to handle alerts.
Might want to help each other out here.

Wonder if we are talking American dollars or another currency? Just a thought.

For instance, earlier it was reported that Stephany had 5000 american dollars but it turns out she had 5000 in Peruvian currency. KWIM?

JMHO.

This is another fact that is unclear that is the amount that SFR won at the casino. It was reported she won US$5,000. but later it was corrected to 5,000 new soles. Even the conversion amounts I've heard mentioned, US$1,700. to 2,500., have varied. Yesterday I heard a reporter saying $5,000. U.S. again. Ugh!

I'll look up the conversion rate and post it here. Their currency is called Nuevo Sols (New Soles), not pesos. So if she won 5000 new soles it would be close to the US$1,700. amount. The conversion rate is 2.8425 USD, or 2.7345 CAN.

That's crazy! It actually looks like she picks HIM up! He didn't seem to initiate anything.

Not that it matters.

IIRC, she spotted him in the casino while she was with her friends. She left and took her friends home and then came back to the table where Joran was sitting.

Hopefully someone will help me out with what I recall.

In the video, you can see on the right side that little white "thingie". IMO, this is that little white purse. The white "thingie" shows up in the surveillance video of Stephany pulling into the casino and leaving the casino.
Yes, that's what I noticed too. When I watched the video I was looking for a purse or something and there it is! MOO
