WHY is he in a medical facility? Suicide attempt? Or is he trying to play the insanity card?

Haven't sleuthers discussed what happened to Stephany in one form or another? I am not condoning what is in the article but ....

:furious: Shame on Fox for the sensationalism...this is appalling journalism!:banghead:

I agree 1000%. Good Lord, who wrote that article?? I've seen articles stating the same scenario, written with much more tact and respect for the victim, while still getting the point across of the atrocity of the crime.

[Updated at 9:50 a.m.] Peru murder suspect Joran van der Sloot, a longtime suspect in the disappearance of an American teen in Aruba, was transferred from a police facility to a medical facility Thursday morning, according to images broadcast by CNN affiliates in Peru.

Say what?????

He was either already beaten (which I hope not) or may have a tummy ache from those sponge cakes. Or, it could be a stall tactic from his attorney -- whom I'm sure does NOT want a re-enactment. I'm sure more details to follow.

MOO

They said he was having a psych eval, I would assume that includes a physical exam?

Well who the heck scheduled an exam when the whole world is waiting for a live presser on whether charges are being brought against him today!!! I think they are toying with the press, lol!

It shows she put money down on the table, but it doesn't show that the money was for him. She sat down next to the other guy once she placed the money on the table, and the money was to her right. Joran had chips in front of him at that time. The next shot in the video shows Stephany moving next to Joran, and I don't see the money on the table at that point. It never shows Joran picking up the money off the table.

On this other casino video, Joran steps away from the table at mark 2:04 and, when he returns at 2:10, it appears he is counting money. He's only away from the table less than 30 seconds as per the timestamp on the video frames. I wonder where this money came from.

CORRECTION: He's at the Attorney General's office, NOT a medical facility.

The difference, IMO, is that most here have discussed it in context while trying to be respectful. The Fox article was purely for sensationalism.

Sure wish we had someone here who is familiar with Peruvian law. Am wondering how they handle insane criminals.

Why is he at the Attorney General's office? Is that normal? Maybe they will charge him "live" on camera...

karma-girl and suzihawk,

Thanks for your comments. I didn't expect much support for my views, and understand how much against the grain they are. Btw, no, I have never posted under another name here.

I have a personal stake in this case. I've been working on a book about the Holloway case, and it has obviously been severely impacted by this unforeseen event. I will just tell you that my research has shown conclusively that Beth Twitty has told more lies than even Joran has over the years. I have also had it verified, from those in Aruba to newspaper reporters who covered the story locally, that the students were coached by Beth and her entourage, not to provide information about what happened.

So, having a strong view that Joran was not the last person with Natalee, and that Beth and her people knew that, but still persisted in trying to railroad this 17 year old kid, I naturally was incredibly suspicious from the outset about the murder in Peru. Think about it- one of the world's youngest criminal masterminds, who removed all traces of Natalee Holloway, to such an extent that not a fingernail or thread of clothing has ever been found of her, devolves into a laughable, Darwin Award-like klutz five years later. Who would leave a dead body in a hotel room registered in his hame? And, as noted previously, the coincidences of the five year anniversary, extortion plot, and Kalpoe-Dr. Phil trial are all just way too unbelievable.

I have great confidence that Joran didn't willingly confess to anything. He is a habitual liar, and appears to have almost no principles where money is involved, but I don't think he's a murderer. I do agree that, even in a best case scenario, he will probably serve many excruciating years in the horrendous Pervian prison system. I just want to see justice.

So are you saying that Beth knows where Natalee is and knows what happened to her but wanted to pick on a 17 year old boy that she didn't know? What was her motive in getting rid of Natalee? Or are you saying she just covered up her disappearance? Why did she choose Van der sloot to blame?

o/t- but can we please remove the ad at the top of the page? You know the one with the chocolate cupcake with perfectly pink icing... every time I see it, my mouth waters and I crave something sweet!

FOX just said they are going to have Fhurman on shortly to discuss "things".

Yes, for sure most have been respectful.

IMO, it shouldn't be a shocker since it was LIVE on Nancy. Seeing it, hearing it ... awful. :furious: At least, we don't have to read it and can ignore it. The more we link to the article, we add hits etc.

Actually, while I am disappointed that the press conference will not be taking place, I do want this whole thing to be done correctly.

Fox news just stated that Mark Furman will be on next and will have details from his own investigation in Peru.

Sorry if this has already been posted.

Fox News is reporting that the police press conference has been cancelled.

Joran has been taken, along with police recommendations on charges, to a local prosecutors office. According to "On The Record" producer (Kim Rickberg sp?) down in Lima, prosecutors are expected to give the report to the judge sometime today. After getting the report, the judge has 24 hours to announce formal charges against Van der Sloot.

Fox has heard this will be a 1st Degree Murder charge.

They must be getting ready to charge him.
