Suzihawk that is true that the general public did not know about the extortion.But the news not being released to the general public does not mean that Joran did not have info about contacting Beth for the money, and other things on his computer that may have alerted Stephany that he was trying to extort or scam her for her money.

Which brings me to my earlier thoughts about a possible correspondence from the "sting operation" indicating "we are not sending you anymore money, etc., etc." We know the rest of MY thoughts.

It infuriates me that our tax dollars were used to fund this moron's trip to Peru which in turn caused Stephany's death. I am pissed about this. I'm sorry but why is NH's death since 5 years ago a 25k expense? There are tons of missing children, women and some men in this country. How much hard cash is used to find them? What makes her case so special? I hope I don't get in trouble for saying this. I feel for Beth Twitty but there are kids like Adji and Haylee missing. This type of money has not been spent on them. I know as a minority woman if I went missing the FBI would not spend 25 bucks on me. I hope this method of doing business stops. It literally caused the death of another!!!!

I am not 100% convinced that the FBI took the money out of their pocket to pay Joran. I know this is how they are reporting this information, but it is possible the money came elsewhere and an FBI agent handed it over to Joran.

Hopefully the "official" interpol document will surface.

ETA: The FBI has access to loads of drug money to play with that has been confiscated in arrests.

Exactly, like a movie as is in this case. The FBI aren't supermen, and they do not have jurisdiction in Aruba unfortunately!

JVS is the only one in this case that caused the death of another. For anyone to blame the FBI is just nonsense. They were working on trying to get JVS arrested and off the streets. Unfortunately, JVS ran off and murdered this girl before they could finish their plan.

Lets just hope the many prayers around the world for NH will finally come to light if there is sufficient info on that laptop!

Question, what happens if the Peruvian Investigators find enough information to charge him in the NH case? Do they turn him over to the U.S after they are done with him in the SF case?

Peru has no jurisdiction to charge him of any crime Joran may have committed outside of Peru. If they find information that might possibly reopen the NH case, they would likely be more than happy to share it with Aruba officials to deal with however they can. However, legal experts have many times explained that with no body, no direct evidence that she was killed at all (officially she is still listed as missing) or that she didn't die of natural causes they would not only need a confession from Joran but since he has lied so extensively, nothing he says can be assumed anymore to be the truth unless he confesses and backs up that confession with some sort of actual legitimate evidence that she is dead and he killed her.

Interesting interview with NBC's Chief Legal Analyst, Dan Abrams here that includes this info as well as other interesting info about Joran's confession in the Peru case as well as the NH case.

As far as whether the US or Aruba gets a crack at him next depends on whether or not the NH case can go forward at all and both would have to wait until he has finished however long his Peru prison sentence would be... which is more than likely going to be a very long time. However that ends up working out, it is likely that when he gets out of prison in Peru (assuming he ever does) Peru would probably be more than happy to get rid of him by sending him back to the US to face the extortion and wire fraud charges since generally speaking whichever country files charges first gets him first. But... since NH was a US citizen coupled with the fact that the extortion charges are related to NH's family it could very well be that the US would allow Aruba to get first crack at him once Peru is done with him... this would most likely largely depend on what the Holloway family wanted to do.

I'm not one of those on the bandwagon that the sting operation was even remotely responsible for Stephany's death although I respect the difference of opinion. I also respect your opinion that minority crime victims don't get the same attention. However, here's my take on it: the FBI does not have jurisdiction in every crime that occurs. Unless a crime is obviously within their jurisdiction they do not become involved unless asked to by local LE. The day following Halleigh's disappearance the FBI had 16 officers involved in the search--at a cost which had to exceed $25,000. Ditto Adji Desir--the FBI has always been involved in that case. The FBI is also offering rewards in both of those cases. I guess my point is, they do spend the resources and money on the cases in which they are involved.

I think the missing pants could have another logical explanation. When JVDS went out for coffee, Stephany took a shower. Maybe she washed her pants a little bit in the seat area and they were drying.

There is no possible way to know the exact time of death forensically. Even in the best of circumstances and a liver temperature taken very soon after death it is simply not possible to be more accurate than a time frame window of a couple of hours or so. Considering that Stephany was not found until days later the most accurate time frame of death would have to have been figured out by the time she was last heard alive in the room (argument had allegedly occurred) and the time Joran left the hotel to begin his run from the police.

They can get a pretty accurate time of death on Stephany by examining her stomach contents.

Fair point. That being said, the police report seems indicates that her body was not moved after he killed her.

Was she face up or face down 'cause I've seen reports of both?
