Pit Bull Ban Starts Today In Garfield Heights, OH

I talked to my next door neighbor last night. She's convinced that the kid fights the dogs. She said she's seen him load them up on Sat. mornings and not come back for hours or until the next day. From the looks of them, I don't think they'd last long unless they don't do the "fight to the death" scenario but who knows. I've seen the dogs up close when the father has them out and they seemed friendly but he did say that they don't like other dogs. The one that my husband grabbed didn't go after him so I'm not sure.

We're saving up for a fence now but I have started taking the dogs out through the basement. We used to take them out through the garage and around the side of the house to the back yard. It's pretty sad that I'm afraid to go in my own front yard because of some heathen that lives across the street. I hope he gets some serious jail time for the charges the cop told me about. It's weird, we've never had a problem with them before and the parents seemed really nice. Once all this happened all my other neighbors told us how we were the only ones that even said hi to them.

Thanks Indy! I sent you a PM. I've never noticed scars, they're just skinny dogs. I'm thinking they're more neglected than actual fighting dogs but I could be wrong.

UHHH Reb maybe you should read a little!!!

If this gets passed your WILL be next, I know I have to pay a lot extra for my homeowners insurance for my 2 huskies!! It is called a domiano effect!!! When they allow these PBs to be banned I will bet you my life Rots, Dobies, Huskies, And German shephards will be next!! It isnt really that hard to get IMO!!

:clap: Yep, you know its coming. Once they try to wipe out the pits, the next dangerous dog will be next. Why don't they band breeding them without a license or making them spay/neuter and fine them if they don't. This would reduce the amount of pitbulls because there are way more of this dog then any kind of dog in the U.S. maybe that is one reason we also hear about the attacks. My 4 month old pit puppy just started manners class and she is the star of the show. This is the best dog school in Peoria Illinois and the two trainers each have a pit bull. They bring them to class and use them to demonstrate thier good behavior. One is a show dog he is beuatiful and the other is just an oridinary adopted pit but they both have those big smiles on thier faces and have never tried to attack any of the hundreds of dogs that come into that school. I think there should be a band on people owning them that don't have proper time, money and the right attitude towards them.

Beyond the main ban on PitBulls, I believe this list Dangerous Dog list includes...German Shepherds, Mastiffs, Chows, Huskies/Malamutes, Akitas, Doberman Pinschers, Great Danes, and Rottweilers.

Exactly. I think this is crazy. Lurker and Indy have pretty much stated everything that needs to be said. Go down into some breeds deep enough and you might even find that pit was bred into make that breed. For instance, when I read up on the Red Heeler (cattle dog/queensland terrier) cause that is what we're pretty sure one of our dogs is, we read that pit bull was bred into the making of the breed! I always wondered about her face. In any event my dogs aren't going anywhere and this ban would lead to MORE bans and I'd like to see someone try to take one of my dogs away for NO GOOD REASON. People cross the street when I walk my Malamute because he is all white and huge, but Frank thinks he's on a catwalk modeling for freaking Armani or something. He knows he purrrdy.

We called the cops because of the way the kid was acting, I strongly think he deals out of his basement.
Apparently someone else had already called to report a Pit attacking my hubby so we got 9 police cars, an ambulance and a firetruck. The cops got there and said "Oh, it's just a dog" and I said "For one thing, it's NOT just a dog to the owner and for another there's a LEASH LAW here!"
My hubby told the cop how the kid had threatened him and the cop said that he usually doesn't take complaints from someone who had been drinking. :furious:

Um, excuse me? We were in OUR house watching the MD game having a couple beers, minding our OWN business when this happened and that's the response we get from the police? Well I can't say that, it was really one ignorant office. There was another cop there that told me the kid already has drug and weapons charges against him and will go to court at the end of the month. My friend said he saw the kid run back into the basement and come back out with his hand in his waistband. The father was out there by then and told the kid he didn't want to do that and to take the dogs and go. WTF? I can't be sure exactly what he had in his pants but I've got a good idea. You mean to tell me this was going to bring a gun into a street full of people because HIS dog killed someone elses dog and my husband asked for his help? CRAZY!

I can't believe they didn't do anything. My poor pastor of our church's dog got out of their yard last week and got hit by a Cadillac Escelade. The man called the police and came back yelling at our pastor that his dog damaged his grill while he was holding his dying dog of 12 years. The cops came and were going to give him a ticket for letting the dog run loose but he told them he was in the fence but some how got out and had never gotten out before so they let it go. The man still wants them to pay for his car! Some people are unbelievable.

When I walk the boys everyone gets out of the way. I always hear, Is that a wolf? If they would come and pet them they would get licked to death. I have a red and a grey. Someone somewhere started saying red huskys are crazy. So wrong!!

I get the same thing 'is that a wolf?' or wolf hybrid? Nooooooo. I love Huskys too. They're such clever dogs. Frank's personality is really quirky and silly, he makes me laugh constantly. He's got some really ridiculous things about him and is really, very much a momma's boy. I kinda think that he knows Jake is 'slow' and shows outward patience towards him, like he will even let out a sigh showing that he's being patient with Jake. (Jake IS a little slow...)

Peoria City Council approves use of money for purchase of security equipment

PEORIA -- Due to a recent number of incidents involving antagonistic individuals at the Peoria Animal Welfare Shelter (PAWS), the City Council approved a $15,000 budget amendment for PAWS to purchase and install security equipment on Tuesday evening.
In order for PAWS employees to discreetly summon police, they are proposing the installation of "panic buttons", such as those used in banks, in addition to security cameras in the lobby and outside the entrance to the building.

This is our local animal shelter. This was just in the news today. They are also getting Tasers and bullet proof jackets. It is in a bad part of town and they pick up lots of pits. Lets just say they have had some very angry people wanting their dogs back and they won't give back because they have signs of fighting or severe neglect. Last year a couple of men broke in and stole two pit bulls out of this pound. It is ridiculous that these people's lives are in danger because of dog fighting.

Here's proof that if we allow pit bulls to be banned, bans will extend to other breeds. I have been rally against this ban since I first heard about it.

On Friday, June 15, 2007 St. Paul Rep. John Lesch held a press conference to announce that in 2008 he will propose a ban that will outlaw the ownership of 5 so-called dangerous breeds, including Rottweilers, Pit Bulls, Akitas, Chow Chows, Wolf-hybrids...and ANY mix thereof in the state of MN. Anyone caught owning one of the banned dogs would be subject to misdemeanor charges and face as long as 90 days in jail and a fine of as much as $1,000. The statue would force all dogs of the banned breeds be removed from the state or euthanized. Please sign our e-petition opposing Rep. John Lesch proposed legislation:

You can find an idiot proposing pretty much anything if you search enough. Proposing it doesn't mean there's any support for it to actually happen. That's where the slippery slope falls down. Someone may propose it, but is there any real support? Someone proposed that all marriages that don't result in offspring in 2 years should be dissolved. That's not an indication that something like that will ever happen.
