Pit Bull Ban Starts Today In Garfield Heights, OH

MY POINT EXACTLY!!!!!! THANKS!!!:blowkiss: I pay a lot of money to have my boys, and they would NEVER hurt anyone. Now without my obsessive training, they could no doubt!
Laws can't be passed based on the best owner, or on individuals. Laws have to apply to everyone. There are no doubt plenty of people who can drive at 100 miles an hour more safely than another driver can at 35 miles an hour. But the laws are written to work for society, everyone. An animal that is dangerous, without obsessive training, can't be allowed as a pet, because not all, not even most, will do the obsessive training. Your guys are safe (maybe - I've seen too many seemingly good owners surprised) - but the law isn't about Indy Gal's dogs, it's about everyone's.

I find it strange that Huskies appear on a dangerous dog list. Their biggest drawback is they aren't much protection. They merely want to be everyones friend. I've never owned one. But have know people who did. They are wonderful dogs.

Imthemom, how scary for that shelter.

I know this is here and not there but we have 5 banned breeds.
1.Dogo Argentino.
2.Filo Brasileiro.
3.Japenese Tosa
4.American Pittbull.
5.Presa Canario.
Do you have any banned breeds at all.?

In the US? In cities all over there are pit bull bans. Not sure about other breeds yet, though I know it's being proposed.

<That was one of my first thoughts, I thought we lived in a free country, guess NOT!>

We do live in a free country, more or less. But we should also be FREE to live in peace without having to live in fear of being attacked by a breed of vicious dogs that people have bred to be that way. Your freedom to own a pit bull is not more important than my freedom to be able to walk down the street without getting attacked by one.

Here's a good one--- Just this week a couple pit bulls attacked a mauled to death a shetland pony, in my town, that was given to a terminally ill boy (with cancer) by the Make-a-Wish foundation. How sad is that?? How many more incidents like this will be have to have before we ban these monsters altogether? Oh well, a person can dream, right?
Sorry but my dogs would never, ever, ever in a trillion years do such a thing ,,, it would be the furthest thing from their minds (and, their natures) to maul to death a shetland pony! So don't anyone give me that 'any dog is capable of such violence' crap.

I'm with you! Both neighbors on either side of me have pit bulls (2 each). They basically neglect these dogs, except to feed them. They try to get thru the fence into my yard, which upsets my dog. I'm always having to prop the fence from my side, because these idiot owners take no responsiblity. I swear, if either side gets into my yard... they're DEAD.

It doesn't matter if the owner is "responsible" or not... if the pit bull thinks he's protecting his "territory" (and territory could be any place at any time) even a good pit bull will attack and cause injury or death.

Pit bulls SHOULD be banned... as well as any other aggressive dog.

I noticed this in one argument against dog banning. Any thoughts on this?

Banning the so-called dangerous breed will merely hasten the upswing in popularity of some other breed that will be used for vicious attacks on people and other animals.

Back in the day, rottweilers and dobies were the dangerous breeds du jour. I had never even heard of a pit bull being dangerous back when my dad used to repair the faces and bodies of those mauled by dogs. So do you all think another breed would be bred to fill the void created by the pitbull?

My neighbors mastif got into my yard from it jumping their puny 4 ft fence. Thank god my daughter wasnt outside with me. It tried to attack me, I kicked the crap out of that thing and stomped on it a few times. I had my boots on too! I called animal control after. My neighbor apologized to me since he knew his dog was mean. I was so mad I still told him off because I would killed the dog with my bare hands to keep it from hurting my daughter. Im an animal lover but I choose human lives over it when its trying to hurt me or someone I love.

I posted earlier in the thread that some idiots here are turning the Sharpei into the new pittbull.

There ya go. I think these idiots will just keep doing the same thing with other breeds.

ha ha that's what I was thinking. My 4'11" grandmother had several great danes while I was growing up and the only damage they ever did was tripped my grandmother with their leash and broke her hip.

I also remember literally riding these dogs like they were ponies.

My mom's friend owns two that she breeds. The female Nala is a doll, but Max is huge and all muscle and mean as sh@@. We got a puppy from her, and had him for 6 years. While he was great to my oldest son, my mother and I, he hated all strangers and finally got to the point where I was afraid to let the little ones near him. I was to afraid to try and give him to a good home, for fear he would bite someone so we ended up putting him down. We cried for weeks, it was one of the hardest things we have ever had to do.

The only dog that ever attacked and bit me was a Great Dane. go figure.

The thugs and dog fighters and people that want a mean 'tough' looking dog will move onto the next breed. The Presa, or Rottie, GS, Chow...they WILL find a way to get their blood thrill and we'll just continue banning breeds.
Personally, I've been attacked by two dogs. Once was an English Springer Spaniel and he got me GOOD. Scared me half to death and thank God the owners got him off me. He had me against the wall outside their house in the bushes. He just launched at me after I rang their bell and my friend answered. He tore through my shirt and my breast. It was horrible and I was terrified. He was put down a few months later after he attacked someone else. He had bittten countless times, mostly her husband!
The first dog though was my very own poodle when I was a teen. I tried to cut up a hotdog that she'd snagged when it fell off the grill and she latched onto my hand.

That is exactly what will happen, then we will ban those dogs and it will continue until we have all poodles....

There's a big difference between a dog protecting it's territory and one attacking someone or something on the street.

We had a Golden growing up that was the best dog ever but no one was allowed to enter his backyard or come in the house throught he back door. He had my brothers friend pinned against the basement wall because he snuck in the basement door and the dog knew him. It didn't matter though, as far as he was concerned, if you didn't come in the front door, you didn't belong there.
