Pit Bull Ban Starts Today In Garfield Heights, OH

Oh lurker, my dogs are the same. But it has to do with knocking at the door. If you just walk into my house, you are going to get knocked down.

I tell everyone NOT to knock on the door or ring the doorbell. They're better off just coming in. When they bring attention to themselves, the Rottie gets his slobber glands going and they end up slimed.

You are wrong wrong wrong, Please do a little reading!!

Please don't accuse someone of not knowing what they're talking about simply because they don't agree with you. I've done a hell of a lot of reading on this subject and you know where I stand.

Jeana, would you ever come to my house?

Sorry Jeana!! I should know better by now. I just get so wrapped up in these threads.

I can't believe they didn't do anything. My poor pastor of our church's dog got out of their yard last week and got hit by a Cadillac Escelade. The man called the police and came back yelling at our pastor that his dog damaged his grill while he was holding his dying dog of 12 years. The cops came and were going to give him a ticket for letting the dog run loose but he told them he was in the fence but some how got out and had never gotten out before so they let it go. The man still wants them to pay for his car! Some people are unbelievable.

Why shouldn't the guy be responsible for the damage to the car? If a dog "somehow" gets out of a fence, its still the owner's responsibility.

When I walk the boys everyone gets out of the way. I always hear, Is that a wolf? If they would come and pet them they would get licked to death. I have a red and a grey. Someone somewhere started saying red huskys are crazy. So wrong!!

Some people are just ignorant and thats okay, but dont start killing helpless dogs because you are ignorant and refuse to do something. Seems to me peole are into taking the easy way out. I dont know it just angers me Ya know. ( not intended for you, LOL)

I don't believe you can equate cautiousness with ignorance. If someone approached me with a bunch of dogs on a leash, I'd move out of the way as well.

I wasnt saying those people are the ignorant ones, Jeana. The people who want to kill an entire bred of dogs off, that is who I was speaking off. I think it is kinda silly when people get out of the way because they think my dogs are wolfs. I really think like some here if they ban this bred. The fighters will just find another bred to fight, then we will have to ban another breed of dogs, and on and on. I just dont think Banning PBs is the answer. I think it is tougher laws that are the answer.

Jeana, I think the above comment is what Indy was referring to as being ignorant. Not about people moving to the other side of the street.

Indy, sorry for the crosspost!

The HSUS is against dog bans as well. Dog bans simply don't solve the problem. Denver recently recinded their ban for that very reason. Like I said before Discussion of banning other breeds is on the table.

I'd like Pits banned, but back to the subject. I don't think that someone moving out of the way of a dog on a leash is so stupid or irrational. When I took my German Shepherd out for walks, there were plenty of people that gave him space. If you don't know a particular dog, why shouldn't one be cautious?

We've discussed this a thousand times and you know my answer. ANY breed of dog can bite. The reason that they FIGHT Pit Bulls is because they will fight to the death. No other dog, sans rabies, is going to do that. So, while you can speculate all you want (and that's really all you're doing is speculating) that these thugs would just use another breed, it really wouldn't be the same would it? If a dog retreats because its injured, as most dogs would, there's not much sport in that, is there?

Tougher laws is laughable because its not the law abiding citizens that are fighting these dogs to begin with.

And, while you already know this, plenty of people have been killed by the family pit bull who had nothing whatsoever to do with fighting them, tougher laws wouldn't prevent that sort of thing from happening.

Jeana you know that i highly respect you which is why I think I may need to take a day off this thread. It is easy for me to discuss this with people who I dont really know, but to discuss it with you I just feel wrong. I hope you know I didnt mean any harm. And again why do I let myself get into these threads anyway....

Not a chance in hell. But I still love ya!!!!

:blowkiss: :blowkiss:

LOL! You don't want a 90 lb Pit sitting on your lap while a 140 lb Rot looks on adoringly?

Actually we're pretty receptive when people are afraid of our dogs. Most of my friends aren't so I leave them lose but when there's lots of children, I put them away. I also put them away when my Mom or Gram comes over, they're terrified of them. My Mom spent the night one time and my Pit was sitting next to her licking her hand over and over and I said "See, he loves you" and she said "Yeah right, he's just tenderizing me right now."

I have no problems with a 90 lb Rot. I love them. As for the Pit???? I'd rather be holding a snake.:)

I am sure his insurance would cover it. If you hit a deer or something your insurance covers it. I would feel pretty bad if I hit someones dog, I wouldn't worry about my car and I sure wouldn't yell at that person's whose dog is dying. If you hit a person even if it was their fault would you make them pay for the damage they did to your car?

If his insurance covered it, that would be an admission of liability, which proves my point. A deer, by comparison, cannot and is not expected to be controlled by a human. A dog, on the other hand, is expected to be controled by a human. If that human fails to control the dog, they are responsible for any damages that dog creates.

Your last sentence isn't clear to me, so if you'd like to rephrase it, I'll be happy to try and answer; however, since its comparing apples and oranges, you may wish to just let it slide.
