Exactly. That’s what an innocent person would do. Chit chat was part of his game that he relied on. Are there any other interview transcripts?

idk I haven't been able to make it all the way through those documents yet

Wow, thanks @Cindizzi for picking up on the fact that his Dad was there. I had heard and read that it was only his Mom and one sister.

I have only heard the one person telling Nate Eaton that Dad was there. No one else has corroborated that.

The press photos of inside the courtroom and then again when they were exiting only show Mom and Sister together, and then exiting with AT.

ABC even has a clip at the beginning of this video showing AT walking Mom and Sister out of another building the day before the sentencing. It says they were visiting him. Dad is nowhere to be seen in that clip either.

Do you think he was aware that his mother and sister were in the courtroom - he did not seem to look around once to see if he had any supporters...

He smiled and nodded at his mom when court came back from a short recess, but did not look at his family when he was escorted out at the end of the hearibg.

The documents says the DD driver described the girl in the 3rd floor bathroom window as having long brown hair.

Which is confusing, because the only person in that house with brown hair of any length is Xana. Which doesn't seem right because if she was keeping an eye out for her DoorDash delivery, she'd have just as good of a view from her bedroom window on the 2nd floor...and no need to go up and use the 3rd floor bathroom since there was a bathroom right outside her own bedroom. Not to mention, she wouldn't be ducking out of down repeatedly if she was looking for own order.

Now, if the bathroom light was dim or a nightlight, it could have made it hard to tell the color of her hair. Looking at the last picture of the roommates together that afternoon, I think it would be hard in any light to mistake Maddie as having brown hair, but I can see where in a dim light she might have seen Kaylee and thought the hair was a light brown? Or Dylan, but she was in her room/asleep at that time.
Or they just misremembered and got it wrong as eye witness testimony is notoriously unreliable IMO. And without any corroborating evidence of someone with that hair being present or seen by those in the house or on camera then we should probably treat it with very little weight. MOO

And no offense to the driver. But we all saw the police video. That’s not a reliable witness

Again, MOO

Why is this a problem, though? To me, with my life experience, Kaylee walking in to find BK stabbing her friend and him attacking her, grabbing her and throwing her across Maddie and into the bed would make sense. Get her out of the exit way. So would her grabbing his arm and fighting with him and ending up rolling over Maddie should she have lost her balance. So would her trying to escape from him attacking her and ending up in the corner of the bed. (retreat to the corner where it would be hard to get to her over Maddie).

I have no idea if Kaylee was sleeping in the same bed with Maddie or not, but I never assumed such because in my world, there are a dozen ways Kaylee could have ended up between Maddie and the wall even if entering the room after Maddie was being attacked. JMO.

Kaylee's door being opened and the dog being on the bed also goes with what my thought. There are some dogs, and I have no idea if Murphy might be one, that if their person says "stay" they stay. And some dogs, like people who when they get scared stay in a comfortable surrounding. Anyway, it's why I thought that way.

ETA, I put in unopened but the door was opened.
Poor Murphy.
He knew what was going on.
I hope he's in a safe place and loved.

Which begs the question.... WHY was there very little blood trail? And the car? Nothing from what I've heard. There's got to be a reason but I just can't make sense of it.
Great point on the blood Trail from the house. Snow/Weather?
Car was cleaned multiple times.

Yes poor Murphy. Would be interesting to wonder how this would have changed had Murphy not been locked in the bedroom? Perhaps he would have barked and warned the victims earlier. Or attacked him. Not that Golden doodles are a breed to be scared of! lol. Or maybe we just have a 5th canine victim!

Also if they would have simply locked the sliding glass door. Perhaps he breaks in perhaps it changes his mind. So many things I wish to change so this story could have a happy ending not the way it actually ended!

do you think he was irritated that he could not get a job with the police so this was a thumb in their eye? I had not thought of that.
Except he bought the knife before he moved to Washington.

I haven't been able to read every post, so sorry if mentioned previously.

"Pappa Rogers"

Could be Military slang.

Papa - Phonetic letter for P.
Roger - Message has been received.

Foxtrot Papa - '🤬🤬🤬🤬 Pig', indicating a female soldier of lascivious bent who is not shy about taking on lovers.

Papa Whiskey - 'privileged White'

In Malaysian: Pape Roger - 'Expresses a desire to Exit or Leave a situation'
Interesting, I think he spelled it with a "d" and Rodgers is typically a SURNAME,
Could it be a nod to Elliot Rodgers? Why the papa reference? Like he is the teacher or something.
The history below has another meaning, of the name "Rodger", Prowess with a spear,
but together Papa and Rodgers?
and a pic that looks just like him, so weird.

Etymology of Rodger

WHAT DOES THE NAME RODGER MEAN?
The name Rodger has a history dating as far back as the Anglo-Saxon tribes of Britain. It was a name for a fame-spear or one who was a skilled soldier. The surname Rodger was originally a Germanic personal name derived from the elements hrod, or "renown" combined with geri, or "spear;"
thus the name suggested "prowess with a spear."

I read somewhere it was speculated that he might have sat down at one point, obviously that would have had to be very brief moment. but with his alleged expert crime knowledge I've wondered if he wore those shoe booties like CSIs (and some fancy estate sales) make you wear and sat down to quickly take them off before leaving the house?

What does everyone think about the dog heard barking outside after the murders, and also the front door maybe being open ?
Omo.
Standard poodles are loud. Bailey looks like he strongly takes after the poodle side of his heritage. No open door necessary to hear them from outside.

Catching up on this thread, but reading through some of the documents has changed my thoughts on the case to some degree. For a long time I had assumed Maddie was the primary target, or at least his initial focus when entering the house. Realizing Kaylee’s door was open when she usually kept it shut with Murphy shut in has me wondering if he wasn’t looking for her first. He checks Kaylee’s room, potentially knowing where it is from having watched her/the house, doesn’t find her, and leaves the door open when he moves on to Maddie’s room, then kills Maddie first to get her out of the way before turning on Kaylee. I had assumed the particular brutality he displayed with Kaylee was frustration at her being a complication in his plans, but maybe it was that she had been his fixation from the start and it was Maddie who’s death was less planned. The fact that Kaylee had apparently been worried about a stalker of some kind and seen someone watching her makes me lean further towards this theory as well. We may not ever know for sure, of course, and it makes very little difference in the end, but I can’t quite get my brain to stop trying to make sense of it, somehow.

I can’t say how much I appreciate how much insight we’ve gotten into these kids’ personalities and characters from their families and friends. What smart, funny, kind, empathetic, strong human beings they all seemed to be! I don’t know, something about watching the sentencing gave me a lot of hope that BK would not overshadow these kids’ lives, not with how determined everyone is to keep them remembered.

And count me in as someone in awe of Alivea Goncalves’ statement. “If you hadn’t attacked them in their sleep, in the middle of the night like a pedophile, Kaylee would’ve kicked your f—————— a——!” I’ll remember that line forever. Because it’s so true! The only reason he managed to get the better of them was because it wasn’t a fair fight in the first place. He stacked the cards so completely in his own favor against completely unsuspecting victims and STILL screwed up enough to be caught dead to rights. He’s not even a monster, imo. Monsters inspire some sort of awe in us, some great fear, even as they repulse us. He’s simply exactly what she said; a painfully average loser who has never impressed or awed or had any notable impact on anyone in his life. It’s obviously impossible to tell what, if anything, got to him in those statements, but if it’s anything I feel it has to be that, especially if he does have a reported contempt for women. Every one of those four had more significance in their pinky finger than he has had in his whole body, in his whole life. Smarter, braver, kinder, stronger, and anything else you can name.

Sorry for the long post, this has been my first chance to get down my thoughts since the sentencing and apparently I had a lot more I needed to get out than I realized. Thanks to everyone here on the board for what you’ve all done to honor Maddie, Kaylee, Xana, and Ethan and to advocate for Bethany and Dylan. Really glad to have this community on a day like today.

All JMO.

With respect to Kaylee’s injuries: They believe there was one primary weapon, but they don’t know what caused the marks on her face (other than that they were not created by the murderer’s bare fist).
On duty Ron's show and they read a document and it was described as rounded with stripes, then they showed the handle of the Kbar ? is that a possibility?Screenshot 2025-07-25 at 11.10.32 PM.webp

All dogs are loud when their owners are feet away in trouble.

Just shows the stealth of this person.

Yes, @SteveP suggested that this could have caused the pattern on her face.

I agree. The Moscow Police investigation documents reveal much about Kaylee, the strange things she and her roommates witnessed near and in the house that semester, and Murphy’s strange behavior when he was let outside, including the morning of the murders. I recommend everyone read through the documents. They are actually pretty easy to navigate since they each contain a subject line.

IMO
