1. LE spotted the murderer in the kitchen
2. LE breached the house
3. The murderer raced down the stairs
4. LE intercepted the murderer
5. LE arrested the murderer in a bedroom
6. While awaiting transport, the murderer told LE he had an unloaded Glock by his bed.

So police intercepted the murderer as he ran down the stairs, and arrested him in a bedroom. Was he running to his bedroom? And if so, what had he planned to do with the gun?

I think families of daughters murdered with or without a connection to the murderer should pursue national legislation- there should be aggravating circumstances in many cases it is a Hate Crime.

It is happening too often, is sick, and looks exactly like young women are seen a prey.

How many minds and hearts that could have impacted our future have been stolen because a young man developed hate for young women? Way too many

Young women in college have always been victims of sexual assault- when I was in college it was 1/6, now it is 1/3. So when you look at a population of 100 young college women- 33 of them will be victims of sexual assault. That is madness

I think some young men are under the impression that young women have an intention to hurt them, and that young women should have all the power about their lives taken away. Women are just now getting power in many places. Why that power is seen as a threat is baffling to me.

I’m a survivor, as is my daughter. So my opinion matters. It is infuriating
If you ask- my guess is all of us know many women who are survivors.

Kaylee, Maddie, Xana, and Ethan will be remembered, forever and a day, as innocent victims of a murderer sickly & purposefully focused on killing women, IMO.

I understand the Prosecution Team's "take home" being along the lines of "we'll never know why', etc., they have to cut their losses & save face, I presume, but through that posture, IMO, they are missing a lot... and an opportunity to lay bare the most awful, outdated & mentally disturbed misogyny that's prevalent in our society today in the US of A. Of course, IMO!

Because overarching their heinous murders, the real reason & Modus Operandi, IMO, why they were so brutally murdered that no one seems to want to speak out about, cultural avoidance, if you will, is because no one in the public sphere is willing to step up & address the elephant in the room.

How horrific it is that women going about their lives, completely innocent in their living situations, in this case (I don't even like to call it "a case", because there are too many cases, it's an epidemic!!) were murdered in their own home.

The victims were college kids! Supposed to be enjoying the time of their young lives, and were prey to some sick man/incel, who felt he could/should annhilate them, just because he is male & they were females, with Ethan as a lone male along side them, all of them innocents.

It's such a travesty, and that's putting it lightly...

I have no words to help in understanding these huge injustices towards women in our society, or solutions beyond acknowledging this way of being & ignoring it presents a real & present danger to women who are half the population of our planet.

• He would not sleep during the night and would constantly roam around the room which the fellow inmate said was "annoying" when sharing a cell with him

I would like to think that is true, but I very highly doubt that it is. Most college-aged kids are just like most of us were when we were that age. They think they are invincible, and if they are even aware of any of the particulars of, or aware of the murders at all, they probably think that it could not happen to them. "Not here, not me". I would think that around UI and WSU, the murders will be long remembered, but I fear in many campuses around the country, they have already been, or soon will be pushed out of memory. I do hope that parents remind their students of these murders, and safety precautions they should always take, before they drop them off to begin a new school year. It may save someone's life someday.

I imagine it means snipers positioned themselves around the house so they could react regardless of where the murderer showed up in response to the raid (in case he had a hostage or started firing at police).

This full coverage of the house would form an umbrella of sorts.

I certainly would be terrified if it happened close to me.

Luckily for the neighbors, though, the raid occurred in the very early morning hours, when most would likely be asleep—just like the murderer’s parents (presumably).

The tactical team (SWAT) worked under cover of darkness and with as much silence as possible until they initiated the raid. The last thing they wanted was terrified (or simply curious) neighbors looking on and potentially being caught in the crossfire.

We had a vacant house across the street from us a while back that was occupied by squatters, one of whom was apparently a drug dealer.

At 0530 one dark fall morning a couple of years ago we were awakened to the sound of a bullhorn "Occupants of [address redacted] come out with your hands up". When we looked out we saw evidence of a SWAT team, a BearCat with a robotic mobile device coming out of it, saw them zip tie the residents (hah!) of the house that came out the front door and sit them down on the front stoop.

It seems the drug dealer attempted to leave from the back of the house, and he was brought around to the front in handcuffs and put in a police car. We found out later he had weapons on him, as well as enough drugs to constitute possession and dealing.

When neighbors with home security cameras viewed footage, you could see the SWAT team stealthily positioning around this home. During this process they snuck across the front of neighbors' homes and turned off front door lighting at a couple of houses, which set off phone alerts, so some of the neighbors were aware something crazy was going on before the bullhorn alert.

My husband had to call and say he'd be late for work because they told him to go back into the house until they were sure the area was secured.

It was quite the surreal experience.

My husband was actually awake before the raid on the house across the street. He could hear the engine of the BearCat idling, didn't know what sort of vehicle he was hearing and almost went out of the house to investigate. He said his coffee won out and he decided to stay inside.

The bullhorn announcement was one minute and thirty seconds. I don't think anyone slept through that!

BTW... the squatters are long gone, the house has been flipped, and a nice family is living there now.

It breaks my heart, but I agree SP. This was just a media flash for a large majority of college students across the country. My nephew at Northwestern had no idea about it when I asked him. Of course, those of us engaged in True Crime have lived and breathed it for almost 3 years.

I agree that it's up to the parents to try and instill those safety precautions beforehand, but in the end you still have a group of young kids away from home without supervision for the first time in their lives. They are just not thinking something like this could EVER happen to them. Off campus sorority and fraternity houses are much more susceptible IMO.

I think the Chapin family is doing a good job at spreading awareness in speaking engagements and have set up a scholarship fund in Ethan's name that has awarded $100K so far IIRC.

It's the evil Murderer that shouldn't exist in this world.

New article from Kevin Fixler at the Idaho Statesman today:

Investigators and the state were very angry about the leaks to dateline, and the investigation is both secret, and ongoing.

They say that Dateline had accurate and inaccurate information, with a heavy focus on the latter.

Kohberger did have social media images of college females on his phone, and they were contacted. They were all shocked.

He did also have those porn searches that Dateline reported on, and an interest in Ted Bundy.

However, Xana's blood was not found on the third floor, her Apple Watch did not show her ascending the stairs, there is no evidence Kohberger sat down, and Ethan's legs were not "carved."

They were cut, but investigators don't believe there was some sort of sadistic intent. It seems their theory is that was done in order to prevent Ethan from coming after him.

Thank goodness they had an acre lot and not a homes stacked on top of each other you see in a lot of subdivisions today. I think that factored into the decision to make the tactical entry that way.

Still nerve racking though.
