Why be attached at the hip with ridiculous number of and length of phone calls and depersonalize their names into roles? That is weird. JMOO
Right?

It’s so strange that he refers to his family not by name but by their role on his phone.

I don’t think he has unfettered access to mommy now. I’d like to know if he does.

“He had his parents saved as "Mother" and "Father" in his phone, says Barnhart, and would often call his mother first followed immediately after by his father if he did not get an answer.

"And he would go back and forth texting: 'Father, why did mother not respond? Why is she not answering the phone?" Barnhart says.

Barnhart notes that Kohberger had completely powered his phone off between 2:54 a.m. and 4:48 a.m, a move likely meant to protect himself while he committed the murders.

In the end, it was a move that proved to be incredibly revealing, she explains.

"When he powered it off, it was from a human pressing a button, and the battery was at 100 percent charged," Barnhart says.

Mother. Father. Seriously?

Norman Bates called. He wants his weird formality back.

Murders aside, he was not capable of living on his own and not capable of handling a PhD program. imo

All this is weird.

Nancy Grace- Inmates harassing BK, DP fed level, alternate suspect defense

Has anyone heard the discussion that because BK had fled across state lines he could be prosecuted in Federal court and get the Death Penalty?

Nancy Grace is a former prosecuting attorney- she knows her stuff.
Very interesting discussion, I did not know this could be an option. I thought that would be double jeopardy. She says it is not.

It would please KG’s family, and they seem to be pushing for such

And alternate suspects- it sure explains why he did not harm Murphy. Wow.

IMO
Yes, this NG podcast was very interesting — so many new points but unfortunately a lot of the usual interrupting so some of them not fully developed. Hope some of the other respected podcasters take a deeper dive.

I am quite amused that xxx214 is feeling stressed by taunting through the air vents. Poor thing. He thought he was going to have peace and quiet in prison — like a sabattical — so he could do more reading on mass murderers, research, and finish his PhD thesis. It probably interrupts his daytime naps, too. MOO.
I feel sooooo sorry for him. NOT. 😝

I can actually understand entering your parents into your phone as "Mom" and "Dad", but Mother, Father, Sister is straight out of the '50's and I have my sister entered by her name.

Yeah, no PhD for him, he thought prison would be like county jail, when it is cages at times and not cells. So sound is traveling and he is whiney and the inmates are enjoying his pain.

Brian Entin gave good info about BK’s situation- response by the prison to his complaints. BK doesn’t have the self awareness to see that he is easily agitated- surrounded by agitators that enjoy his discomfort. So long has he isn’t physically injured- they don’t seem to care.

I wondered what media access he has, he is supposed to have a tablet, with music, and a TV.
Supposedly a hunger strike took place recently, gang members protested so his complaints are not a priority.
C McDonough says his psychology is being used against him, but he isn’t being physically harmed.
Prison officials are keeping him in solitary J Block as he has a target on him. Exactly as I had thought- taking him out would help prisoners make a name for themselves. What do they have to lose if they already have life??

Yeah, so many will poo poo Nancy Grace, due to her drama but she was a career special prosecutor for serial murder and sexual assault cases.

I don't think it is realistic.

IMO
it could be considered if the perp committed crime in another state.
Did he?

And
I'm not sure about this "flight as a fugitive" either.

He was coming home/visiting parents in a hometown.
He wasn't charged then, was he?

This case is closed.

JMO
I might be wrong but what I got from the discussion on NG was that, if by some fluke xxx214 were to be granted an appeal or his sentence was somehow overturned, the Feds have grounds (crossing state lines) to step in with new charges and a trial. I think it’s only being discussed as possible intimidation because it’s been said xxx214 was going to file an appeal.

I couldn’t tell if SG was pushing for this or initiated a dialogue with media and/or Federal prosecutors — I’m certain he would want Federal charges filed with DP — but don’t know if he got the discussion started. MOO.

My personal hope is that xxx214 is gone for good. Another trial would be putting him back in the limelight, reliving the trauma for families and victims, and more money spent for a hopeless sicko — all for DP by firing squad? He’s effectively gotten the DP with the added torture of voices from the air vents, needing to constantly look over his shoulder, and no hope ever of physical heteros€xual intimacy. OMO.

I think BK is weird for a lot of reasons, but I'm not going to judge him by how he has his parents named in his phone.

As LInasK said, I too have my parents listed on my phone as mom and dad. In some families the terms used for the same people are "mother" and "father," so I don't think that's unusual at all, despite how foreign and unduly formal it sounds to my own ears.

A new thread would be greatly appreciated. I am going to report my post.

its probably his autism speaking there. known for its formal nature and emphasis on systems.

Did he have ‘Sister and Brother’ in his phone?

That’s lot of pressure.

If mother doesn’t answer instantly he’s all over the father. Why isn’t she answering?

Demanding. Entitled. Angry for mother not being available?

Interesting dynamic. I want to know more.

Mommy coddled him? Made him feel safe? Didn’t judge him. Maybe all of that.
I want to know more, too. Why such lengthy and frequent calls to "Mother"? I'm very curious about that mother-son relationship. Like you say, the reason/s for the calls would be connected to Number One, aka him (she makes him feel coddled, safe, free from judgment). His calls would have nothing to do with "How are things going, Mother? What's new with you today? What's shaking with the excess zucchini this year and how's your ankle?"

There was speculation that maybe the guilty plea came about, at least in part, due to parental influence. If so, imo that would have been solely because they convinced him that admitting guilt would be better for him. (They may have years of experience broaching topics artfully.) He would not have made the plea decision to spare them anything imho. His empathy chip fell out on the factory floor on the morning of day one or I seriously miss my guess.

Autistic person here, I have my mother under 'mum' and my siblings under their names, like most people would.

But judging his phone labelling seems all a bit redundant when he murdered four strangers in their home.

I mean, a lot of people do weird things socially and don't kill anyone.

Re interrupting during discussions

I didn't watch this particular programme
but your observation reminds me of programmes in my country with "Talking Heads"/Experts/Journalists
with people interrupting one another, some even aggressively hahaha
or all talking at the same time,
meaning it is all unintelligible for the viewers 🤣

Jeez!

I had no idea and am a bit surprised how closely they were in touch, BK and his Mother, and wonder with the timing and length of their calls (just he & Mother, not both of “his parents” possibly, as I had understood before) now being revealed….

Whether he was discussing with her some of what he did, even if painting it differently than him being the perp (e.g., “I just witnessed…” “I was out stargazing and…” “I saw on SM there were these horrific murders near me….”, and needed her advice and support to get through that morning, and then took the selfie after cleaning up and modeling a new shirt IIRC she gave him (or gave him $ for?) to show to “Mother” he was okay. Wow…. MOO

“Bryan Kohberger Called His Mother After Idaho Murders — Once When He Got Home and Again While Driving Back to Crime Scene (Exclusive)
  • Heather Barnhart, the digital forensics expert who led the team tasked with examining Bryan Kohberger's phone and hard drive, is speaking to PEOPLE about the case
  • Barnhart says that Kohberger called his mother at 6:17 a.m. on Nov. 13, 2022, less than two hours after murdering four University of Idaho students
  • Her investigation also discovered that Kohberger called his mother again for 54 minutes at 8:03 a.m., which would have been when he returned to the crime scene that morning
…….

He had his parents saved as "Mother" and "Father" in his phone, says Barnhart, and would often call his mother first followed immediately after by his father if he did not get an answer.

"And he would go back and forth texting: 'Father, why did mother not respond? Why is she not answering the phone?" Barnhart says.

…….

The timing of that call means that Kohberger would have been speaking with his mother while in his car driving back to the scene of the crime.

….

The two spoke for two minutes at 4:05 p.m. and at 5:53 p.m. had their final conversation, which lasted 96 minutes.

By the end of that day, Kohberger and his mother had spoken on the phone for well over three hours.”

All of that is insane. Did he have separation anxiety? They are wrong about the 8:03. He returned to the crime scene from 9:12 to 9:21.

The length of that call would line up ending the call as he was leaving his apartment .... just enough drive time to arrive near the crime scene at 9:12. I think that's what they meant.

I wonder if he told Mother he was leaving.

Clearly, it was Bryan's world and his poor family was just living in it.

New article from Idaho Statesman

Partial footprint was a dead end-
a partial footprint that police found on the home’s second floor and detailed with a diamond-shaped pattern in the probable cause affidavit, never got them anywhere, he said.

BK purchased a pre-packaged Starbucks frappuccino coffee drink at Albertson's in Clarkston.

During overnight surveillance in the days leading up to his arrest, Kohberger was observed once very late at night walking in dark clothing around his parents’ neighborhood. But reports that law enforcement witnessed him throwing trash away in his neighbor’s garbage were untrue, Gilbertson said. Reports that claimed they saw Kohberger using bleach to clean his car, which he drove back to Pennsylvania with his father, also were false.

Green leafy substance found in a spare room of the PA home was marijuana, the book title we all wondered about is
“Feel the Fear and Do It Anyway,” by Susan Jeffers, a self-help book about techniques for turning anger and indecision into action. Gilbertson didn’t know what had been underlined, but, he said, it remains in police evidence.

And...

During his nearly two and half years in jail awaiting trial, Kohberger had hundreds of mostly video calls that were monitored by police, only with his mother, father and two older sisters outside of those with his attorneys, Gilbertson said. His mother and father were on almost all of the calls, with his sisters also there most of the time, he said. In none of the discussions did the Kohberger family ever talk about the murders with their son and brother, Gilbertson said. Instead, the calls hovered on “completely trivial stuff,” he said, and never broached the issue of whether he killed the four students. “Not one bit,” Gilberston said. “The closest they would ever get is maybe speaking just briefly about the next motion or hearing coming up and … something good’s going to come out of what we have coming up next. Even as they lost motion after motion after motion.”
