I agree. I think it was a form of hostility towards his parents. Bullying them , cornering them , by monoplozing their time and energy. Seeing him text them ---"Father, why hasn't Mother answered my calls this morning?" ugh

My son is about the same age as BK. We speak on the phone a few times a week, usually for 5 to 10 minutes, unless there is some big issue or project to discuss. But I cannot imagine staying on the phone for several hours at a time with him. What would we talk about?

He didn't like what he was and wanted to show that he's always been this way, from birth. I think that puts blame on her shoulders by him. If you truly loved someone, and were not in conflict with them, demanding additional negative or positive attention, you would not do this because ultimately it is to them. It reflects on them, it shows you have problems in the world, with women, and possibly with your Mother. JMOO

Yes. he was demanding their attention. And there were no other phone calls or text chains on his phone logs. ---ONLYto his parents. That is creepy.

maybe I missed it, but where is it stated he spent HOURS on the phone with his mom? to call everyday, ok sure. I know plenty of people who do that. but some here seem to interpret he was compulsively on the phone (while he was awaiting trial) with her and even speculating as to what they talked about. how do we know his mom has not ever asked him "why did you do that?" or does he feel bad about hurting people, etc. I get the impression that people are reading way more into his relationship with his mom that is really there from what has been made public. is it a weird coincidence that his mom wrote to a newspaper about crowds cheering Ted Bundy's execution & her son eventually becoming a murderer? yes that is strange, but i think it's a giant leap to say those things are cause & effect.

Following his sentencing, the Moscowpolice department released several tranches of files related to their investigations,including accounts from inmates at Latah County Jail, where Kohberger had been held.

When asked if Kohberger had ever lost his temper, the man recalled a time when he had been watching sports and Kohberger had been video calling his mother, which he did “for hours each day.”

“[The inmate] said "you suck" to one of the players on the team. At which point Kohberger immediately got up and put his face to the bars and aggressively asked if [he] was talking about him or his mother,” the documents stated.

I think that Bryan's mother may be willing to spend hours on the phone with him because she thinks that if she doesn't, then he may kill himself. And then she will be wracked with (unwarranted) guilt, and grief for a life so wasted.

It's so peculiar that he did it multiple times, appears he even anticipated doing it the next few days, his name written out and the dates, begun.

What was he doing that required daily authentication????

Was it something he invited/initiated because of his internet practices (scrubbing, VPNs, incognito, etc) or something one or more sites initiated, unable to verify him in more standard ways?

It's almost like the Internet itself knew he was creepy. Had to keep checking to make sure he was even human.

i think someone suggested up thread it may be related to the TA position? bc getting on zoom as a TA (admin) would give you access to students (kids, young adults) so it may be done frequently to confirm identity of administrators in zoom type classroom settings? jmo and a guess

To clarify I laughed at your post due to an inmate, in BK's jail, yelling at the sports team on TV and BK demanding who he yelled at ... Him or his mother?

I think he's going to quickly realize, if he hasn't already, that his guilty plea, in order to get out of the death penalty, was one big fat mistake. lol

Does anyone have a link to the docs that include accounts from inmates? Not the whole slew of them that were released, but the specific does with those inmate accounts. I'm sure the majority of you have bookmarked them so you can go back and have a good laugh whenever you need help putting a smile on your face.

His mother is against he DP and a devout catholic. I think she realized he was guilty and told him he needed to plea guilty. He did it in order to preserve the calls with her.

There were sooo many records/files released so I'm hoping someone bookmarked them to share. Hopefully the article I spoke about (from the post I quoted) is correct. It said:

Perhaps it gets bandied about too often, but cognitive dissonance explains so much for me, particularly where criminals still manage to have family support.

Imagine spending HOURS on the phone with your adult son who did, in fact, murder four young people, and foregoing the deep questions like why? why would you do that? Didn't you care about them? or their families? or our family? didn't you care about being caught? what happened to studying criminals, getting your PhD? did you care about nothing? did you care about no one?

And instead having to think of topical things to talk about. Instead having to engage with him while he talks about topical things. While he talks about how inconvenienced he is, how uncomfortable he is, how perturbed he is when  he doesn't get his allotted biscuit.

He can destroy four lives and sentence their families to life forever without them, and he's completely unmoved by that, but short him a breadstick, and see him rage.

I'm going to guess that his family has been used to speaking this language for a long time. Talk around the elephant.

Me, that's time I'd take back. Remember and mourn the baby and toddler he once was, let him wallow in his self-serving complaints, and reclaim that time to spend with the rest of my family, the ones who don't kill people.

I'll care about your dinner roll, Bryem, right after you start caring about people.

I'm not the mother of a mass murderer. But I know what it is to draw some boundaries with someone who is very very self-absorbed and narcissistic. The one positive about prison for his parents is no longer having to worry about him functioning out in the world. So I'd limit that phone time.

This and @Megnut's post made me think a lot about information provided to the family. If it were me, and my son told me straight up he killed people, it would be hard not to hold it against him. I would want to pull my energy back. I would be questioning a lot of things. I believe he didn't want to rupture that relationship so he has side stepped it, stating he was trying to avoid the DP, pleading guilty. I don't think even a mother would want to talk to her son that much if known to be guilty. I've read somewhere (I don't know if it's actually true now) that his father pointed out that he was framed. This just may have been what was told to a neighbor or acquaintance and was via Daily Mail. Hopefully, I am remembering that correctly.

Let's put it this way, denial is not a river in Egypt. There might be some grappling and behavior adjustments going on here for awhile. JMOO

Guilty at trial for sure. But the DNA was vulnerable to subsequent rulings by supreme on admissibility of Genealogy searches.

But in Mrs K's place, I think I would still be hoping that he could end up doing some good in the world, prisons usually have some programs, don't they, for prisoners to do useful things? Like making toys, training dogs? That would make her a little happier, I think. Plus give them something to talk about!

He’s not getting any of those privileges. He’s in a cell 23 hrs a day.
