Sadly the many killings of innocents from gangs aren't posted on social media but are just as horrible.

I'd say probably worse , you know how people are when they think NO ONE is looking !

Just home from work and caught up. So glad this total nightmare came to an end today. I have no need to know anything else about SS's background or family story. BUT if the Godwin family has anything to share about their dear beloved dad, grandpa and great grandpa- I might pipe back in.
Such a miserable tragedy.

its just more graphic because he was crazy enough (attn seeking) to broadcast himself

Exactly.

And I was trying to get across that I think that's at least partly why there wasn't a massive effort in those first minutes, interstate wasn't closed etc. Inner city Cleveland police were like "just another run of the mill shooting". There's a lot of gang activity in Cleveland. The Facebook thing (and him saying he's going to keep killing) ramped up things up after the fact.

If, for instance, a cop had been shot the response probably would have been different in those first minutes.

I wonder if the McDonald's employees locked down during or after his drive-up. This could have ended badly for the employees or patrons if he had gone into that store. I certainly hope they used their lockdown procedures if they had them.

On a side note, we have had some heinous, high-profile gang murders recently in Long Island, NY. It is really terrifying to realize how many gangs are around in the exburbs, suburbs and rural areas.

Very good presser. PA state police major said they hadn't received info from Cleveland that Stephens phone pinged in the area, but they were already following news and social media so were on high alert. They knew Stephens had come to Erie, to the casino there, so they were all watching carefully - state and local LE.

He also said their SHP posts in the area had received numerous tips about possible sightings over the last couple days and followed up on all of them. When the McDonalds employee called, they responded quickly. Had 4 state patrol cars and one local police car.

Autopsy will be done tomorrow. Right now they have a search warrant on the car and contents and will do a thorough investigation.
They will also go back and investigate to see if Stephens was in the area today or yesterday. They'll go back and review again all the other tips they received from people who thought they saw Stephens. Will try to figure out where he was, said there are a lot of places to hide around Erie area.

He also had high praise for the McD employee who called in the tip and all the other members of the public who called in tips. He says police really need the public's help in these cases and it worked very well this time. He was extremely grateful to the McD employee - but right now are not saying it's a McD employee nor are they giving out their name.

He also said the state patrol cars had video recording of the stop/apprehension, so that will also be reviewed. They usually don't make those videos available to the public.

But yeah, they had been on high alert up there. They work a lot with Cleveland PD and figured out there was a good chance he would come that way.

This family is simply amazing in their grace and forgiveness. I am not sure I could make those statements and hold those beliefs at that point in my grieving. Bless them and their father/grandfather.

I kept doing research on the locations he gave for other bodies. I can't help but think there are bodies still out there. If you watch the videos he thinks carefully and spits out a bunch of locations with fairly specific details. When you go into Google Maps you do in fact find abandoned houses in just the areas he states.

Now, Google Maps data in these areas is from 2014, but in those neighborhoods I find it hard to believe that any of these houses I have found have been renovated or replaced. In fact there are probably more. The best lead is 108th and Cedar. It's an abandoned apartment building with a private lot in the back that would give easy access. Also, it's directly at the corner of 108th and Cedar.

If I were LE I'd search the whole building. I'm sure they will think I am crazy but I emailed the local Crimestoppers with all my research. I've attached them as screen shots and you can do your own research and look up the addresses and then click down into Street View. Just use the little yellow person icon in the bottom right of the google maps screen, drag it to the street beside the location and you'll see what the screenshots show.

Can't remember the killer's name, but remember the man that killed a large number of prostitutes and buried them under and around the home he was living in. I don't think any of the dead were ever reported missing. They were like lost souls when they were alive.

  • #834
Wonder if the McD employee will get the reward. I know it was for aiding in the arrest, but the employee has no control what the perp does after it's reported.

I do remember that some bodies were in the house too. They called it house of horrors. Can you imagine the smell of decomposition around there. Ugh getting sick thinking about it.

When did LE first lay eyes on him? Was he on the street already or still in the McD's parking log? Thank goodness the McD employee was alert.

  • #838
Thank you. I did see where "Cleveland Police said in a press release that only one homicide has been confirmed. They searched locations mentioned by Stephens in his videos, but found no other victims." However, perhaps I turned up some they missed. I also sent the email to local news Fox8, the News Herald, and The Plain Dealer paper. Maybe get some news crews showing up at those houses to stir up LE some. He gave several high numbers for the dead and said he'd lost count. All this mixed with his cruelty to animals stories sounds like serial killer material.

Purely speculation, but it sounds like he has been killing for a while, lost it when he fell out with his woman, and used the last kill as revenge. I can't imagine the FBI haven't done a profile on him yet. Surely they see either a complete braggart with only the one killing or a serial killer with a string of hidden bodies behind him. What purpose would it serve to say he'd killed all those others besides making himself look "big/important" after having done none of them or to brag on the horrific truth?

Good for you! Awesome Sleuthing! Hope your email makes it into the right hands and they follow up on your info.

From the reports I've seen it sounds like they were on Buffalo Rd. waiting for him to pull out of the McDonalds. Or, they were pulling up to it just as he was leaving the drive-thru. The workers stated he made a Right out of the parking lot and as soon as he did LE went by with lights on.

Fox 8 blew me off saying the cops checked all the locations he mentioned. I'm still not buying it. Only one was an easy match (108th and Cedar), the others took some digging. Oh well. We may never know.
