Police say parents are not answering vital questions #3

Wait--so you called up KCPD as a private, uninvolved citizen and they gave you that information over the phone that the parents aren't cooperating???

I did call. I'm not kidding. I got tired of having no information. I spoke very freely to an officer, although I didn't stay on the phone with him long.

The parents cooperated in the first few days in answering questions as far as the leads came in. Since LE determined that there were a lot of things that were not consistent, time lines changing, probably things that we don't even know, well they chose to lawyer up and protect themselves.

LE has repeated several times that they REFUSE to sit down WITH LAWYERS in separate interviews to answer HARD questions that LE have now. LE has learned a whole lot since the few days that the family were willing to help in finding Baby Lisa. LE has numerous questions that only DB.JI can answer.

This case is stalled, the family has not been out in the media since the last ho ho with GMA and the trick or treating financial deal. It's obvious they know she is not out there to be found IMHO. What other reason would they have to not even ASK people to keep an eye out, tell LE if they see anything suspicious. It is what is is.

The family has chosen to move on, forget the baby probably ever existed and get back to normal. JI told the lawyer as much/

They won't ever talk, it's too risky for them since they are hiding a great deal IMHO. They are dissociated now with BL.

Well, could you share specifically what was said? I would say it wasn't meant to be confidential if he was giving it out over the phone.

It's not confidential. I asked if the parents were doing anything, helping at all. The answer was no.

<modsnip>

I asked why searches aren't happening now, and why TES has not been contacted. The officer I spoke to had never heard of TES. He said that the reasonable search perimeter had been saturated, and police wouldn't even know where to tell a search group to search at this point.

I asked about searches of the river. I was told that the river runs very fast through that part of town, and if a tiny baby had been thrown in the river, chances are slim that it would surface. I was also told that on the first day (October 4th), the fire department had been doing some training in that part of the river, and there were people on foot along the banks, and nothing was spotted.

Huh. Well, thanks for sharing that info. I'm kind of amazed that an officer would be that forthcoming to a member of the public during an ongoing investigation, but it's good info to have. And perhaps we now know who Ron Rugen's "source close to LE" was.

Well, there were really no bombshells that he told me. Regarding the cadaver dog question, if one of the reporters in KC would call and specifically ask, he or she might get a useful answer.

That's what I mean when I say I'd like to go to KC and put a fire under everyone. Reporters, too. This is a story that has garnered national attention, and they're not even sufficiently covering it.

Maybe you could contact Jim Spellman at CNN. I know he responds pretty quickly to questions on Twitter, if you have an account. I don't, but I do follow his tweets.

Edited to add:

Jim Spellman tweeted this on the 7th:

Which officer did you speak with?

We know that the neighbor was there.
We know that the new guy down the street stopped by to visit.
We know that jersey was in the neighborhood.
We know that jersey is in jail. hhhmmm

And we know that Capt Steve Young said "on unrelated charges"

Wow -- I bet the State of Missouri would love to know this . . . KCPD is not governed by the City but by the State

I for one, do not believe they would even answer any question to a private citizen about anything in the search warrant under an active investigation. If they did, the dude should be fired asap.

Actually that's not entirely true. KCPD is overseen by a local Police Board who is appointed by the governor but local tax payers through KCMO fund the department.

It's a very complicated issue. KC and St. Louis are governed differently and there have been battles about this in the Missouri General Assembly.

Here is how I see it:

Until there's an arrest, this is a missing child & her family should have all the respect & privacy we can give to them. I believe they have told LE everything they possibly can. I don't understand why they will not talk separately . . . but there is no LAW that requires them to do so. And I would have "lawyered-up" when faced with talking to LE, especially about a missing child. I don't know what else I'd do, like go on NG, GMA or follow LEs lead, and won't speculate since I have not walked in their shoes.

What "vital questions" are they not answering?

And why can't people stick to the topic of each thread? I get so confused when I read the same posts in multiple threads; I mean, isn't that the reason we have multiple threads dedicated to a Hot Case? Sorry to rant a bit, but the case is so cold.

I do hope Pumpkin Pie is somewhere warm & fun of love.

While off topic, I must retort as my buddy's law firm is very active in fighting the legislation for both StL & KCM. Both departments are governed in the same fashion to keep "politics" out of the force -- cannot say how well it works, though. It does keep lawyers & the court system busy.

While KCPD is not governed by the City straight from KCPD website

http://www.kcmo.org/police/BoardofPoliceCommissioners/index.htm

sorry about taking up space. Has no specific meaning to this case except that the State fights hard to keep corruption at bay.

Whether LE should or shouldn't answer questions is one thing (guess it depends on what is divulged), but I certainly don't doubt that natsound called and was told what she shared with us.

I don't have any reason to doubt natsound's word. I do think speaking with the general public about specific details of an ongoing investigation is not something professional LE should do. Steve Young has previously stated that he is the only source of information to the public about this case, but that is obviously not true.

If this stuff is being deliberated 'leaked' to put pressure on DB to confess, I would have to say that's a failed tactic. Plus, it is highly unlikely to encourage the parents to come in and speak with detectives if random callers to the PD are being given the strong implication that the parents are guilty.

If LE has enough evidence to determine who is responsible and make an arrest then they should go ahead and do it. If they don't, and these 'leaks' are unintentional, then they need to pull the plug on that right now, because negative public opinion != justice for Lisa. Not to mention that if the parents were guilty, their defense team is getting a wonderful inside view to what LE has.

Nothing was leaked. I called and asked. Everyhing I was told is pretty obvious anyway.

If there was information given about more than one cadaver dog hit then that is something that has not been released otherwise. Except by Ron Rugen's source.
