I could be wrong, but the police don't have to accept a confession if they don't believe it, right? And any formal confession would have to require the police interrogate and ask questions on how the person did it.

Not sure what you mean by "accept a confession" but the police are not obliged to put you in prison because you can confess. LE always withholds a number of specific details from the public that only the killer would know. In most cases they can weed out false confessions pretty easily if they want to. In the case of people like Brendon Dassey however, the seem willing to work with a person to make the confession work.

Whether he did or not, my argument is that he'd imbibed so wholeheartedly of his own 60's leftist bromides that he regarded standard police procedure as dangerous fascism.

A while back I said I wouldn't believe it, but I'd believe it now if Burke confessed. I don't think he could/should be convicted or charged or anything, but I believe he did the initial blow that eventually caused her death. I am not certain on any other part of his involvement or lack thereof... I lean towards a parent doing the garotte.

But it's strange, seeing him, he's not like his dad. He has an entirely different personality. I think he has problems, but I don't think he's as glib as his dad. Also I think Burke isn't a good liar, and on Dr. Phil it was kind of easy to tell when he lied. So... whatever I said before in this thread, I take it back, I would believe Burke if he confessed to the head wound.

I think I would accept a confession from Burke. I think if he did do it, he would confess after John passes away so that no one would be charged.

It hasn't happened to this point, why would John or Burke confess now? Unless it was to throw Patsy under the bus. Patsy took to her grave the secret of who the killer really was, she knew.
