This election was fast. I think one of the frontrunners got elected.

The BBC News live coverage from St Peters Square is very good with very intelligent commentary.

The crowd reaction when he was announced seemed pretty muted to me.

Whoa, an American Pope.
I was thinking, Tagle, Pizzaballa or Zuppi.

I do wonder if that's partly because a lot of the crowd aren't going to know Latin (and thus didn't understand who had actually been chosen) or perhaps didn't consider Prevost a front runner so they're not sure who he is

Proof that my dream from a few days ago was nothing more than a dream, at least!

He is 69 years old, born in Chicago, but left to study in Rome when he was 28 and spent many years living in Peru.

He speaks Italian, Spanish, and English.

Yes, I was not expecting Prevost. I was thinking it was between Zuppi and Tagle.

I think the crowd wasn't sure who he was at first.

I was listening/watching during lunch when they were announcing in Latin and caught the hot mic of one of the news anchors gasp, "That's the American!".

I never thought there'd be an American pope.

Maybe that's it., but from what was said in the BBC commentary it sounds as though he has had a very prominent post under Francis so his name should have been fairly familiar to the crowd.
