Dezi Freeman could be listening, police chief says

Chief Commissioner Bush says Dezi Freeman could be watching media reports about his own manhunt.

"It's quite possible that this person is monitoring all communications," he says.

As such, he says he will not share operational information about search locations or tactics.

'Real possibility' Dezi Freman is being hidden by friends

Chief Commissioner Bush is asked whether police believe Mr Freeman is being harboured by others in the community.

"That's a real possibility, we are considering all options," he says.

"It's an obvious possibility."

He would not share any intelligence police have regarding this theory.

"He does not deserve to be protected," he says.

"This person needs to be in custody because of what's occurred, they need to be held accountable."

Live link of press conference

What a stupid question the first reporter asked " Do you know where Dezi Freeman is ? "

I also wonder what Mali has on today?? What matters?

" As you are probably aware , she's got other matters on today , and we hope to progress our engagement with her going forward"

Paraphrased :

  • DF has a larger than expected network of anti-vaxxers and Covid-19 deniers to draw on for support to hide across northeastern Victoria, as new video shows he has previously fled from the police, using his athleticism to evade arrest.
  • DF has connections to at least 8 towns in rural & regional Victoria
  • Two associates live in the King Valley, west of Mt Buffalo
  • DF has knowledge of the thousands of disused goldmines in the Porepunkah area.

Police are still combing the area around Freeman’s home.

This suggests that there’s no concrete evidence that Freeman has left the area and police can’t shift focus as the risk of missing him by moving on too soon is too high.

By what means did Mali and the kids (a toddler & a teenager) leave the property at the same time as Dez? Mali and the teenage son were arrested at a friend’s place in Porepunkah later that day. How did they get there? They didn’t walk or drive out the front gate so they’ve left, probably on foot, through another exit on the property, and Dez could have initially gone to the house with them.

Wife of alleged Porepunkah gunman present at time of double shooting, police confirm

Updated September 3, 2025 — 4.16pm

The wife of alleged Porepunkah double murderer Dezi Freeman was present at the time of the shooting of two police officers and may face criminal charges, police have confirmed for the first time.

Kelly said Amalia, or “Mali” as she is more widely known, had been interviewed by police and may face criminal charges for allegedly obstructing the police investigation.

He said she had not been co-operating with police directly, and they had instead been liaising with her lawyer to try to obtain a statement from her.

“She has been interviewed by Victoria Police for obstructing police at the time of the incident, the crime, that occurred and a brief of evidence will be compiled, and she may be charged in due course,” Kelly said.

“My children and I respect the important work of Victoria Police,” she said.

Do the right thing Mali & give a statement.

How frustrating for the cops.

I had a go at trying to track who had a driving licence in that family, and who had access to a car , and it was like chasing mercury, Dez's licence was on and off , more off than on over the last few years, due to refusing, stupidly, to pay traffic fines for piddly stuff, like speeding thru Myrtleford, a ridiculous thing to do, refusing to show his licence, refusing to pay registration , refusing to pay insurance, refusing to conduct timely repairs., ..... how very wearisome this must have been for the Wang and Bright coppers, one can only guess...

Mali's driving stuff is marginally better, but under Dez's tutelage , she managed to reach some real high points re ordinary , terribly ordinary car rules, which everyone agrees to, but not Dez and not Mali.... she totted up fines to the tune of about $3000, her van was impounded and they had to cough up about $2400 to get it out of car hokey.,

I presume she did get her van returned to her, but her licence is a but murky she may still be in licence limbo . I can't find her licence being operative.

Which brings me to the 19 yr old son, of whom I know nothing, and am presuming he is the family driver, which means, logically, he drove himself , mum and the littlies out of the carnage of murdered coppers and off to a pal's home..

Dez has, and it's an unfortunate glitch in his entire personalty, the capacity to run an argument right into a brick wall and dig underneath that wall and watch in fall in on himself. He loves the argument, he loves his own voice, but he does not have the talent, nor the intellect to maintain and carry thru a train of thought to it's logical conclusion. All his life has been like this and all the rest of his life will be like this, however short that journey may be.

That crazed undignified run thru the main rose gardens of lovely Benalla is truly gruesome to watch, his utter lack of decorum and lack of control of himself. .......... just ghastly.

Seems she has closed down her socials.

This morning I was able to find a link between her and her singer friend that Mali was staying with when she got arrested, but this afternoon that link is gone also. I had to look through my history to find that I wasn’t mistaken.

Mali’s friend, Elissa Pernu, has a few music albums and Mali is the harmony singer.

Credits from her album include Mali:-
Mali Freeman - Harmony vocals
