He's taken his wife and children into the mountain. I really hope he doesn't murder/suicide :(
IMO
High possibility, what has he to loose at this point?.

He's already killed two cops & nearly a third. Hopefully no more.

No one should die doing their job!!

'We are grieving together': Alpine Shire mayor
D
By Daniel Miles

Alpine Shire mayor Sarah Nicholas has described today's shooting as "a day of deep sorrow and shock" for the community.

"We hold our police in the highest regard, they serve with courage, compassion and dedication, and their loss is felt profoundly across our region," Cr Nicholas said.

"To our community, we know today has been unsettling and emotional. Thank you for your patience, your understanding and for continuing to follow police instructions to stay safe. Your care for one another is what makes our shire so strong.

"To our wonderful teachers: thank you for being a steady and calming presence for our students during today's lockdowns.

"As the situation continues to unfold, all council facilities will remain closed until further notice and tonight's council meeting has been postponed.

"We are grieving together and we will continue to support each other with compassion and care.

"Please stay safe."

Agree :( So sad. And the fourth officer traumatised forever with survivor guilt.

They probably have a special sniper team to take him out at this point. Hopefully the wife and children are unharmed :(

At this point sovereign citizens should be designated as domestic terrorists and monitored closely IMO

Well, that was an interesting video! I had expected him to be unkempt and uncouth, but not at all. What a tragedy. I just hope his wife and kids survive it.

Crazy that he thinks he has the right to arrest the magistrate and 6 cops. :( IMO

By Judd Boaz

Victoria Police Chief Commissioner Mike Bush has provided a brief update on the Porepunkah shooting ahead of the press conference at 6pm.

Chief Commissioner Bush said the culprit behind the shootings, which left two police officers dead, was still at large.

"I want to further assure the rural community around Bright that we will do everything to bring this person into custody so that your community is safe," he said.

He urged the local community to stay safe and to not venture out until they had been given the all clear.

"Can I please ask you just to stay at home, not go out and about at the moment, until this operation is concluded?" he said.

"I'm leaving now to head to the area to support our officers and support the operation."

By Daniel Miles

The Police Association of Victoria has released the following statement:

"The Police Association and its membership has been left devastated by the senseless murder of our mates, colleagues and dearly loved family members.

"These brave officers went to work today like they did every day, to protect the community. Their dedication to protecting the lives of others, cost them their own.

"The devastating loss of our members is difficult to comprehend.

"TPAV is assisting all of our members involved and will provide any and all support to the families of our fallen members and their colleagues."

Hope the Special Operations Group bring in their Bearcats - they protected the LE during the Wiemballa Seige.

Chief Commissioner Bush said a team of 10 police officers attended a property on Rayner Track near Porepunkah shortly after 10.30am this morning.

He said two officers were fatally shot while a third was shot in the lower body.

"It's believed the offender has since left the property and at this time his whereabouts are unknown," a police statement said.

The police will never stop looking for him. You don't kill their brethren.

Ten LE attended the property this morning! Ten! Sure sounds like they were expecting resistance!

Fast facts:

• Gunman a suspected ‘sovereign citizen’

• Suspect flees into bush with wife and children as hostages

• Neighbours say ‘hippy community’ was at property where officers shot

• One of two officers killed was weeks from retiring

I'm happy to hear that & that they didn't just send in a few general duties cops.

Obviously something went terribly wrong

The Wiemballa ones were teachers which still seems crazy to me.
