There will be a meeting of like minded souls , someone will volunteer to be the patsy, they'll collect the million, and divvy it up, leaving some in the kitty to sponsor the next law case against building a supermarket in Porepunkah,

This is how things work along the Great Alpine Way.... !!!!!

I think that could be a good possibility.

One of the journalists interviewed a local sympathizer of the perpetrator whose support for the perpetrator stopped just short of murder. So, he had at least some support in the area.

Here in the US, there were sovereign type groups known to sponsor "build parties" of untraceable guns. Little skill, however, was needed as it was legal to buy all the parts. The group would then assist with the modest machining needed.

But.... if the perpetrator was building hi powered rifles, your question could be a good one: Was he getting help from handy friends in the movement? And..... Are they helping others?
Seems like it is relatively easy to make guns. A replica and some engineering knowhow.
Sorry, I cannot say how I know this.

Dez's capacity for logic probably means he is , as I type , trying to work out how he can both turn himself in AND collect the mill.

He can sit on the both sides of the fence, he's been collecting Welfare for 20 years AND claiming he pays for the police !!!

“This reward represents the largest ever offered in Victoria for an arrest.”
The 2022 $1 million reward offered for information leading to the arrest of Rajwinder Singh in the Toyah Cordingley case was the highest ever offered in Queensland’s history.

4.5 years between the crime and the arrest.
2-3 weeks between the reward being posted and the arrest.
The full reward was paid out to multiple claimants.

It was at one time in the USA- but these people were not truly making guns.

Rather, they were purchasing part individually and then assembling them. A few of the key parts needed minor machining (purportedly could be done by hand) as they could not be sold in a fully finished state.

The end result of the assembly and hand finishing was an untraceable "Ghost gun". But... the laws have changed and now key parts must have serial numbers and require background checks if purchased through an FFL.

The law change evidently put a damper on the build parties.

How many here believe he is no longer living?
I truly believe he committed suicide, but of course idk, just the feeling I get.

There will be a lot of angry folks then, if Dezi has done them out of collecting the reward...... it would be just like Dez, to snatch defeat from success and do the entire community out of a nice little bolster to get the council indoor heated pool started..

oho...some long bows being drawn there , Dr S......self defence,, now.. .... <modsnip: Don't bring religion into this discussion>

is this guy trying to propose this child sexual complaint is 40 years old, back when Des was 16?? and the police held on to it all this time?? very naughty.. don't believe it for one nanosecond.
It is a possibility. Lots of people don't come forward with abuse claims until they are 40, 50 years old.

We haven't been told, so we have no idea at this point.

With all the manpower and technology unable to find him after this long, I'd say it's 50/50

The police were quite firm in stating that the charge itself , that this visit was based on, that resulted in the ambush, being called 'historic' was because it had taken place in the last 2 years. That was what police said. A matter that had occurred within 2 years of the warrant.

so we have been told that .

What the throwaway remark by that 'good friend' could well mean is that there were other cases beginning way back when Dez was a teenager.. However, that does not appear to relate to this particular accusation, since, as said, it happened within the last 2 years. .. ..

I will have to find what words the police used. I can't remember off the top of my head. I had assumed it could have included a person coming forward in the last two years.

Edit: It is also unusual to refer to a crime in the past two years as historical. Who knows, I'm sure it will come out sooner than later.

The alleged offences relate to a minor under 16 and is why police were executing a search warrant at his Porepunkah property on Tuesday.

It is understood the alleged offending happened in the past two years.

Absolutely. I just had images of this erupting into a high country Hunger Games with Dezi as the reluctant tribute and all of the nutters crawling out of the woodpile yelling “I am the state, therefore I deserve the reward”.

May the bounty claim odds be ever in your favour (and may your chestnut compound republic survive the audit). 🤭

Not to harp on stuff, but the term used by the police 'historic' encompasses not so much the great passing of years of the crime, that there has to be a 50 yr waiting period, but the waiting until the child has reached an age to testify. competently .

It is a common term. in use in all states in AU law.

Referring to sexual crimes as 'historical'

The term 'historical' in the context of sexual crimes refers to crimes that occurred in the past, often involving individuals who are now adults and who were under the age of consent at the time of the crime. This can include a range of sexual offenses, from physical abuse to sexual exploitation, and can occur in various settings, including familial, institutional, and peer relationships. The legal and social implications of these crimes are significant, as they often involve complex legal and evidentiary issues, and can have long-lasting emotional impacts on survivors.

[...]

Detective Inspector Dean Thomas is up to speak.
Detective Inspector Thomas says he will not divulge further details on the manhunt today.

"At this point in time, I will not be going into any details about the actual investigation itself," he says.

He says armed police remain searching the bushland around Porepunkah for Mr Freeman.

Detective Inspector Thomas says while rewards for murder investigations are not uncommon, today's announcement of a reward was different.

"What sets this apart is that this reward of up to $1 million is for information that leads to his apprehension, not conviction," he says.

Victoria Police have offered a record $1 million reward for information leading to the capture of Dezi Freeman.

Mr Freeman is accused of shooting and killing two police officers near Porepunkah on August 26.

He says it is the largest reward offer for someone's arrest in the history of the force in Victoria.

Detective Inspector Thomas says there are multiple theories in play as to Mr Freeman's whereabouts.

He is asked whether Dezi Freeman may have left the alpine region altogether.

Detective Inspector Thomas says again, police are open to the idea.

"We don't have any direct evidence to suggest that at this point, but we are open to that as a scenario," he says.

Similarly, the theory that Mr Freeman is being help is being considered, but is not known for certain.

"We don't have any direct evidence or intelligence at this point to suggest that a particular person is assisting him," he says.

" But again, we are open to that."

Detective Inspector Thomas says there is no end date for the search, and it will continue for as long as possible.

"There is no talk at this point about it being reduced or anything," he says.

"We are as driven today as we were on the day of the 26th of August when this first occurred."

Detective Inspector Thomas says the reward will be available for anyone at all.

When asked by reporters if that includes Amalia Freeman, the fugitive's wife, he reiterates that anybody who provides information will be eligible.

Detective Inspector Thomas says he strongly discourages anyone trying to personally search for Mr Freeman to claim the reward.

"I strongly urge anybody that has that thought to not do that," he says.

"What we want is information."

He warns Mr Freeman is very likely armed and dangerous.

Detective Inspector Thomas sends a direct message to Mr Freeman, just in case the fugitive is watching.

"If Freeman does see this, I ask that he come into a police station. He contact somebody to facilitate a surrender plan," he says.

"And then we're happy and we will engage with him and take him into custody.

"You will not get away with this if you are out there. You will be caught, it's just about when."

Detective Inspector Thomas says police cannot confirm if Mr Freeman has supplies or not, but are open to the theory.

"I can't tell you today how long that would last him if in fact he did have provisions," he says.

"But we are working on the assumption that he does."

The public is asked to be particularly vigilant when travelling to or from Porepunkah.

Detective Inspector Thomas says if possible, the area should be avoided while travelling..

"People that are visiting the area, we ask that they perhaps look at other routes into town," he says.

Thank you so much for joining us during our live coverage of Victoria Police's announcement of a historic $1 million reward for information leading to Dezi Freeman's arrest.
Anyone able to find the actual police presser??
