A couple of comments.
1) If it was very cold and Susan's body was wrapped in blankets (maybe) and shrink wrap, would the odor be bad enough to leave the odor in a rental w/o leakage?
2) I wish like heck some news reporter would be given unlimited time in order to let josh complete an answer.
They always interrupt while his brain is searching for just the right words with another question. Arggg!
I guess that might take an hour + long show though.. but IMO 'we' lose a lot of info when the reporter continually interrupts.

I keep thinking about the news conference and the invitation for the media to join them. Usually in the cases I have observed, LE wants to keep searches like this quiet.

Is WVCPD trying to make Josh uncomfortable? Or if someone did help him in the disposal of Susan's body, could LE be watching that person for a reaction to the Ely searches, i.e., a flurry of calls or other electronic messages to JP?

Sorry, I know it's frustrating to have to clue new people in when you have followed the case since the beginning.

I didn't realize that the police did not confiscate the minivan immediately upon his return home.

Police said they are searching the hundreds of abandoned mines in the Squab Peak area near Ely, looking for any clues to what happened to Susan Powell.

"Most of these mines we go into they're about 50 to 100 feet back, solid
rock face," Sgt. Powell said. "We're going back and clearing each one as we come to them."

But one Bureau of Land Management official described the effort as "like finding a needle in the haystack," because there are so many unknown mines in the area and some run very deep.

"I've seen them as small as 20, 30 feet, or they can go a couple hundred feet," Chris Hanefeld of the Bureau of Land Management said.

In the video attached to this story the mine shaft pictured is a horizontal shaft.

My Grandfather mined for Ore in the mountains of AZ. I remember my Dad taking us to one of the old sites when I was little. I'll have to call and ask him questions to refresh my memory. It really bothers me that everything seems to hinge on whether or not her body is ever found and that Josh could just get away with this. Isn't there enough circumstantial evidence to bring him in already??? She did not just up and leave her kids and disappear off the face of the earth with no trace if she were alive. There has got to be something more that can be done for these women whose husbands just make them "disappear". Circumstance should be enough in this case.

As a resident, I'm familiar with the most common route one would take to get to those areas. (Beware anyone who shows you a map that routes through Dugway, because that's a restricted-area Army base):

A = Powell home on Sarah Circle, West Valley City, Utah
O = Tooele viapoint (most likely; he could also have gone south on I-15 to Lehi, west)
B = Simpson Springs area, indicated by Josh as his "camping/fire" area
C = Delta, Utah (viapoint)
D = Ward, NV (old mine area, searched Saturday)
E = General area of Friday search of 12 mines, west of Ely on US-50

Your eastern areas are much easier to map (I've done it many times in my travels)...'cos there's addresses to go by. Here...it's general areas.

This may be a dumb question, but I'm clear on the east coast and don't know the winter weather there. It seems there is a route starting on I-80, going across the salt flats, and then turning left somehow onto 93 (a state road?). This appears to run through a valley where the snow may not be so bad. Is it possible he went that way, instead?. I know it by-passes Simpson Springs, etc. It just seems like a pretty straight shot - if the roads are ok.

you know what is bothering me? The rental car or van, I think JP did that to throw of investigators. I think he went the opposite direction. I know he isn't the brightest bulb but you would have to be mental challenged to make that much of a blunder. I don't know with his cocky smile on the interview it just struck me that he knew they were not going to find anything there.

The only thing I can think of as to why he would do something like that is if remembered he left something critical there and he had to take that risk. Could it be to remove her wedding ring? Is that worth risking doing that?

He may not be the brightest bulb but I guess unless they find her (and I hope they do) he was just bright enough. It's infuriating. :banghead:

That Josh is a whiney, sniveling, effeminate little weasel! I suspect he is a closet gay (not that there is anything wrong with being gay--but you should not marry a woman if you are) and I also think he is a big, fat, obvious liar! There is nothing believable about his stooopid alibi, and there is nothing believable about his crocodile tears, either.

hi Girly ! I started following the case early on and then the Casey Anthony case got ahold of me which i regret now and so i lost touch. Also I cant help but notice how little info there is on the Powell case and how much overkill of info there is on the Cassey case. Doesnt seem right to me either as that Powell case should be plastered all over the tube like the Anthony case and maybe that would help bring thing to a head. I hope that Josh is questioned every day of his life. I asked just now and I would like to know if you found any info about his car rental? Did he give an answer for why he did that>?

Hi Dizzy! I haven't found any explanation for JP's rental car trip. His silence only leads me to speculate that he was either moving or checking on where he (possibly) left Susan's body.

Don't even get me started on the Casey Anthony fiasco. My head might explode if I think about.
