I have no clue where to post about this.....Logan returning and cleaning out the mobile home. Armes asked him to try and find any handwriting by Eliz. On the search warrant copy left in the trailer, Logan discovered that EJ had 3 cell phones that he knew nothing about....also, Logans cousins reported a siting of Gabe and EJ in Ozono, Tx. Links in the media thread....would love to discuss this new info. But, where??

I'm kind of cynical but I didn't believe the sighting in Ozono. EJ was wearing pajamas? Maybe TPS could confirm but that sounded strange. I'm assuming there was no video? It seems like people want to be helpful but maybe not truthful.

I hope this is just bad reporting. I haven't heard anything about this before.

It is a story that has captured the attention of the nation -- an Arizona mother who claimed to have killed her baby, cut up his body and thrown him in a dumpster.

Then, that mother changed her story, which has brought El Paso into the mix. The child's father is now getting help from local private investigator J. Jay Armes. After being arrested in Miami, baby Gabriel's mother changed her story. She claimed she did not kill the baby but instead sold the baby in a parking lot in San Antonio.

"We have not received any indication that they have found any traces of child or blood, or a child that was cut up like she said she had done," J. Jay Armes said.

I never heard any of that, that he was cut up or that she sold him in a parking lot. Unless this is something from the text messages that weren't released, I would just count this as very bad reporting, with a lot of embellishments.

I am sincerely hoping it's bad reporting.
But they quote Jay on the cutting up aspect, so I don't know. Wasn't this an internet rumor early on? That she had dismembered him?
It certainly goes against the text message excerpt that we all saw.

The video also shows JJ saying this...it's not just a quote that is written. Can someone confirm with the family if this information is accurate?

Maybe this was one of the details that was not supposed to be released...?

Maybe he was responding to a question that was asked of him. I have never seen or heard this reported before, even as a rumor. Unless there are some text messages we haven't heard before.

Possibly. He also says they have looked in the landfill. Wondering if this could be going on behind the scenes? I do wonder if it wasn't supposed to be released.

  • #89
And the video shows what looks like landfill being searched. I'm confused!

This is the most horrible thing to hear. omg, I hope it's bad reporting, just asking JJ that, and him responding to that uninformed question...I hope.

My transcription starting @ 3:40:

Reporter: There's already a previous attempt to sell this baby the first time.

Jay's son (nods affirmative): Correct.

Jay (slight single affirmative nod)

Reporter: and that probably gives you a much stronger leaning towards this
theory.

(Jay and his son both nodding affirmatively strongly while reporter says this. Unable to tell what Jay is saying while he's nodding.)

Jay's son (said while reporter speaking): Absolutely. Absolutely.

Jay's son: That's one of the reasons that we have... that's some of the information we have that leads us to believe that she... she was already on this track, which is gives us hope, which is what gives the family hope that her motivation to sell the baby was greater than her motivation to do the baby harm.

Note: Although prior to this interview clip, there is some verbiage regarding the Smiths, there is no reference during this dialog to either of the Smiths, so it is not specified during this dialog when or to whom Eliz made this previous attempt to sell Gabe.

This video also has Jay Sr. saying that Elizabeth was trying to sell Gabe.

http://www.azcentral.com/video/#/Ne...+is+alive/40280768001/35150280001/64948296001

Jay: That's what she was trying to do. She... We've been following the footsteps and... She was trying to uh, uh, give it up for adoption, but sell it up (may have said 'out' rather than 'up') for adoption...

ETA: I simply don't know what to make of this. Selling is a whole lot different from giving. I would really like to know:

- when and to whom Eliz tried to sell Gabe 'the first time'
- where that info came from
- the details of that attempted transaction, e.g., who brought up selling first, how much, etc.
- where the info came from that she said she sold Gabe in a parking lot
- exactly what Eliz said and when she said it

Maybe LM has reason to believe that the Smiths intended to pay for Gabriel. As far as the parking lot, I think that was bad reporting. They meant to say "an San Antonio park".

THis was an interesting article. I find JJ's statements in direct conflict of what Logan had said about the SAPD meeting yesterday.
"On Saturday, police announced they're opening a homicide investigation into the baby's disappearance, so they can search a landfill for his body. "That is a cop out, because you just don't do that to parents of a child that is missing.""

"Over the weekend, McQueary met with San Antonio Police to talk about his son's case. Armes says that meeting was a disappointment. "They just wanted a photo op so that they could not be caught with egg in their faces. You open the file and there was zero there was nothing," says Armes."

Didn't everyone else get from Logan's interviews that the SAPD was doing a lot?

On a good note: Kelli, Logan's aunt, posted on FB that there are some really good new leads and the family is confident that Gabriel is alive (I am paraphrasing). http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=251236072296&ref=ts

I'm going to sit tight on this one for a little while. I din't claim to know how Jay strategizes, but I know that he does more about the way kidnappers think and act and I will defer to his judgement on what to say or not to say.

I would not be surprised to find out that both statements are true. That there is a lot going on behind the scenes, but not much that has made it to the file. Does that make sense?

Yes, here's Logan's quote:

Police Classify Baby Gabriel Case As Homicide
Procedural Step Taken To Move Forward With Landfill Search
POSTED: 2:32 pm MST February 6, 2010
UPDATED: 6:05 pm MST February 6, 2010

After Saturday's announcement, McQueary said he was relieved.

"I feel a lot more comfortable now with the San Antonio Police Department, the detectives there, they are actually doing a lot more than everybody knows," he said.

There's quite a difference between Logan's perception and Jay's perception.

Maybe Logan is being cordial while in Texas.
JJA can be more critical since he is a native Texan and knows LE there.

  • #99
Good cop, bad cop strategy. The father is complimentary, the private investigator applies the pressure.

  • #100
Maybe we should change the name of this thread to just JJ Armes since wasn't actually hired by Logan.
