Jay J. Armes, whose office is based in El Paso, Texas, told the Tribune he believes Gabriel Johnson has fallen victim to an underground adoption, and he and his investigators are following up on more than 350 leads nationwide that include sightings of the boy.

This is the first I've heard of any sightings of Gabriel. He really is getting alot of tips. I hope these people are calling LE too, not just Armes. You can't have too many people working on the same tip.

This article is promising, if it's correct.

I found it odd that yesterday an article says LE says there have been no sightings, and today is an article with Jay saying there have been. :waitasec:

Yeah,...it is weird. I have here Jay say things that LE hasn't. For example, Jay talked (in a video) about EJ claiming she cut Gabriel and they (LE) hadn't found blood. I had never heard LE talk about that.

Has the family validated either that there have been or haven't been sightings?

As much as I hate to say it, I'd like some verification right now myself.

I didn't hear that before either, but how disturbing in light of the fact she had a knife by the bed :(

The good news is they found a knife on her. I really believe it was for protection and had she used it for something horrible, she would have dumped it.

I'm glad to hear someone is in Mexico looking for Gabriel. I haven't heard LE mention Mexico but Armes has a few of his team members there following a lead. Its just good to hear that all possible areas are covered whether it's by LE or Armes.

The baby's father, Logan McQueary, returned to Arizona after spending about a week in San Antonio searching for clues in his son's disappearance, said Jay J. Armes, the El Paso private investigator who took on the case earlier this month. McQueary could not be reached late Tuesday, but Armes said he has been speaking with the father daily. Armes said McQueary was “very optimistic” about his search in San Antonio and that he and McQueary are planning to return soon.

El Paso's secret agent still on the job: Latest case focuses on 8-month-old Arizona boy

By Ramon Bracamontes / El Paso Times
Posted: 03/07/2010 12:00:00 AM MST

This time he is trying to find out what happened to 8-month-old Gabriel Johnson of Tempe, Ariz., who was last seen on Dec. 26 in San Antonio with his mother, Elizabeth Johnson. The mother was arrested in Florida and extradited to Arizona, where she faces charges of kidnapping, child abuse and custodial interference.

The baby was not with her when she was arrested, so the boy's father, Logan McQueary of Tempe, hired Armes.

Armes, 77, said he took the case because he believes the baby is alive, was probably sold and is most likely in Mexico.

"The baby is still out there; I know that," Armes said. "I got so many agents working on it that I know we'll find him. I selected these agents myself. They are top-notch."

Among those helping Armes are Bill Dear, a private investigator from Dallas who ran for governor in last week's Democratic primary election, and the Pinkerton Detective Agency.

"When I'm on a case, I'm on it all-out and full-time," Armes said. "It's what I do."

Hmmm, just thinking about the fact that Armes is reporting sightings etc. that LE is not.
I think that there might be a lot of people willing to talk to Armes or his agents that would not want to talk with LE. Inclusive, but not limited to illegal immigrants.
Also, I think that Armes main concern would be finding Gabriel, where as LE has to also try to protect their case for any possible future trial, etc. IMO, LE has more reason to be hush hush about information than a PI. Not that I'm suggesting anyone is being careless.

Just some thoughts on that. I could be way off.

I think this video is from late last night as it mentions Elizabeth's hearing this morning.

Private Investigator Believes Baby Gabriel Is Alive
CBS 5 News interviews the private investigator in the case of missing baby Gabriel Johnson.

Video: http://www.kpho.com/video/22782404/index.html

Transcribed, but not word for word. I need coffee to do word for word:

In the past 3 weeks, Jay has gotten over 186,000 tips, leading some to extortion attempts, people trying to make money off Gabe's disappearance. Others turned out to be just false leads.

Jay has several positive leads.

Jay told reporter that "all of the information that Logan McQueary is pulling up in San Antonio has not helped him in his investigation". That's word for word.

Wth?? Logan has been working so hard in SA. Looks like Jay has an ego problem. And is totally insensitive. What a thing to say.

Sounds like Jay is trying to convince everybody that he's the only person who can help. Hope he puts his ego aside soon.

That is a heckuva lot of tips over a 3 week period. I think that averages out to be him getting a tip every 10 seconds, nonstop. (I'm pretty sure that I got the math right on it... if not, blame it on the insomnia) That is a phenomenal amount of tips... it almost sounds unbelievable...

Yes it's like 6 tips per minute. So we should be hearing something from SAPD on this flood of tips too, because I think most people send their tips to LE as they should. I'm sure SAPD has had to add on detectives to handle the flood, and that's certainly newsworthy due to SA's current budget crunch.

The tips had dwindled to practically nothing. I'm perplexed.

Best news of all from the video...

JJ Armes--- We have several leads that could see quick action and possibly an end to this case. We have real good information about the whereabouts but we have to check everything out before we say anything.

Reporter--- Do you expect any movement on any of these credible tips here in the next week?

JJ Armes--- Yes, I do, Yes I do and I’m very optimistic.

Maybe he's getting a lot of tips out of Mexico if that's where he's looking. I would imagine there would be a lot of extortion attempts coming from there once people know they're looking for a gorgeous baby boy and there could be a nice reward involved.

But if he's getting the word out down there, I say it can't hurt.

The highest number of tips I can find is for Jennifer Odom. In a 10 year period, there were 6,000.

Haleigh's case has gotten 5,000.

I think Caylee's case has had about 5,000.

This is beyond record breaking and history making. SAPD must have had to add on dozens of detectives in the past 3 weeks working round the clock.

I think we've mentioned this before, but does anyone else notice that JJ's statements sometimes seem to conflict with LE and othe published new stories? Could that be planned/on purpose? Is it possible that JJ wants to divert attention away from some of Logan's information, or are they really on that completely separate of paths?

The tips # just doesn't make sense. It's just way too high for that time period. JMO.

I think you're right on there. JJ works independently and follows his own sources from what I can tell. Since he headed straight to Mexico, and LM is still searching around SA, I can see why JJ would say that. He doesn't seem to think about what he says as it may hurt feelings, he just says what he says. He may be aware of his harshness, and that's why he stays away from the media, ;) And, if he's 10 steps ahead of LM, then surely what LM has uncovered in SA only puts him 9 steps behind JJ...KWIM? I like to think JJ is ready to pounce while the rest of us are stuck trying to find who HG and the couple are.

I think he doesn't want to share the credit if he is the one that finds Gabriel. He doesn't want anyone to steal his thunder. Whether he's an exaggerating egomaniac or not doesn't matter to me. As long as he's another source of finding Gabriel, he's a good thing.

Yes, as long as he's not all smoke and mirrors.
