Jumping in, I really need to limit what I throw myself into, but...
I am sort of familiar with this scene. I have a semi interaction with the business and I see a lot of people saying "These two have lost their minds!!" There are two things I would like to address, one of them being more blatant and need of attention more than the other (maybe.)
(All my own thoughts below. May or may not be valuable in all cases.)
1. We all know that there are serious if not lethal addictions in Hollywood. MJ died not too long ago from an addiction that was upheld by a Star Doctor. There are many of these Star Doctors. It's a big, big private business. If you can't find one it's really easy to just doctor shop. You can read about these things all the time in MSM, so it's not something that needs to be elaborated on.
I can't speculate if the Quaids themselves are addicts, or if they have "lost it" in terms of that. Just when I hear stories like this, the information about this is always that tiny little spark in the back of my thought process.
I empathize with these sort of people since I come from a family riddled and complicated because of addiction/abuse.
2. The Quaids, (and this isn't a defense of any sort) they claim that the fear for their lives from "Star Killers." I know that this is probably the first time MSM has published something of this sort (it's for sure the first time I have read it in MSM) but this isn't the first know case of this being said. Call it "water cooler talk" or even "urban legend", but it's not the first. Again, this is not a defense of any sort because I don't know if they are trying to turn story telling into fiction.
(Now that I think about this, this probably started out as a script on a studio floor at some point.)
It could just be the industry, I think there is a curse around those that choose to live their lives playing the role of other lives; I think there is a mental/spiritual split with themselves that isn't detected until it is too late.... sometimes.
Then again, like they used to say back home, "It could be something in the water."
