Ransom Note and Calls to the Boss

Anyway...another thing I wonder about: didn't The Bakers own a hose? Kind of odd to call the fire dept. for a small brush fire, that you could probably put out with a garden hose. I mean, it's not like it was a raging inferno, or anything. Was it?

You have to wonder what firefighters thought when they arrived and saw that little pile on fire.

Good question, I have been trying to work that one out as well. My first instinct would be to be fighting it with a garden hose even if I HAD called 911 just to be on the safe side. While awaiting their arrival, I would be out there spraying the hose.

I think the answers to a lot of our questions will come when and IF they ever file charges. Wishing we had some filed now :(

Would the hose they hung out the back/bathroom window to drain (???) have come from the house? Or would they have taken any hose at the residence into evidence and used their own?

Where the fire was at and where the house is at they may have needed at least 75 ft to 100 ft hose. The property sits like mine does, except my home is towards the back of the property and I have forest and not parking lot. In order for me to be able to water the center of my property I need at least 75 ft of hose. We have 150 ft hose. It barely reaches the front of the property.

My neighbor has a set up close to what is on that property with trucks, wood chopping and what not. It is on a different property. I took a drive over there and talked to him. Where the property is at, a house sits in front. It's used for an office not residence. There are residential homes near them though. They are able to chop and mulch 8 am until 9 pm mon-sat and 10 am - 6 pm on Sun. They run 7 days a week. There are three to four men there working during that time. When it is slow there will only be one or two men there depending on weather. They use the wood that isn't good enough for the mill to sell as firewood and mulch.

His mulch is chips of wood. Depending on how long it has sat and if there has been rain. A mulch pile can burn very, very hot. If there is any White Pine or Eucalyptus in it, it can burn even hotter.

There is no smoking allowed there. I seen the signs up every where.

I guess we don't really have any idea where the fire occurred, do we? I've seen some news coverage that showed a small charred area, but you couldn't tell where it was in relation to the house.

You'd think that the homeowner would have enough length of house to reach the woodpile/mulch area of the property, because it's not uncommon for mulch piles to combust due to heat. Someone who owned a tree service would know that, imo.

But maybe that's just the way I think. We have alot of property, and keep adequate hose length to reach all the way to our pasture...but then, we keep our burn pile up there on shale, and also use the house to water crops if the season is dry. So maybe I'm just assuming other people think like I think. I don't know.

The link I am putting up is the video I was going by and I assumed the fire was more towards the back. Yet after you said that I viewed again. Look at around the 1:53 mark. There is a yellow hose and a dark pile of wood. I assumed from reports the fire was in mulch. Doesn't that look burned? Could that have been where the fire was? I don't want to jump to conclusions. Here is the video.

Okay, I see what you're seeing. Looks burned, but could maybe be a woodpile or something. Hard to tell, because the video is so shaky and moves so fast. If that area is burned, it's relationship to the porch is interesting.

Maybe someone could get us a screen capture.

ETA: Where we see the white bag covered object that looks like a chainsaw...does that area appear burned to you?

Yes it does. That is where I originally thought the fire was at.

Where exactly was this fire? It almost looks as though there had been others at one time.

I have seen a news vid that showed the burn pile, I think. I'll try to see if I can find that video.

That's a great video of the house from the chopper camera. I would imagine the pile in question would be the one with the white tarp on it?

I've circled it in this picture...

Okay, this vid shows the burned brush pile @ 1:54 mark. Still can't tell where it was in relation to the house, though.

Good morning!!!!!!! Yes, mulch will com-bust, but didn't I see the word arson on the report?

Thank you for this video.

It looks like what they focused on could have been roots.

In that video it mentioned they were looking for a home inspection person. I'm wondering if that home inspection was for insurance for the leak in the roof. I see the tarp and we seen the inside of the ceiling in the kitchen that doesn't look like LE did it. JMO.

Well, from that video I posted, it's definitely a mulch pile, and not a brush pile or wood pile. And the mulch pile is near a tree. That's pretty much all I can tell about the area.

The area off the back porch, where there appears to be a hose or something near a woodpile...is that a burned area of ground next to the woodpile? The trees there look about right. And it's possible LE had already sifted and moved the burnt mulchpile at this point.

(SIGH!)

Good Morning.

I hope this is okay to put up here. It's all I could find. I will put the link too, the date is 10/9/10

I saw that too. And it's obviously referring to the fire incident at 21 21st NW street, so I think it's totally appropriate to post it here. JMO

So...if we have an arson police report, I would think someone, at some point, is going to be charged with that crime. The question is...who?

Clue, is there anyway you can reduce the size of those screen captures? It's blowing the page margins.

That property has so much access to it. It is completely open with traffic never being noticed because of the parking lots. I'm sure immediate neighbors are used to hearing vehicles and noises all the time that things don't really seem suspicious.
