Bill Cosby team's PR move may be too late in court of public opinion

Well I don't know how it supports him exactly...? He's saying he never did anything without consent, 40 women say otherwise, and we're supposed to believe him more than them because...? Serial rapists never lied on oath, is that it? Should he be guilty, how and why would he be expected to confess to everything in a deposition? He had lawyers there to make sure he wouldn't, and apparently they told him not to answer the question about whether he gave anyone drugs without their consent.

He seems to think that if he gave drugs (Quaaludes, Benadryl, or whatever) to women, and they agreed to take them, that that constituted "consent" for whatever followed. IMO, his way of justifying what he did. Sounds like delusional thinking to me. No wonder he denies slipping drugs into drinks; he can't find a way to justify that.

His sense of entitlement, his contempt for women, his predatory tactics to use vulnerable women for his pleasure...all disgust me to no end.

So glad all these women came together to stand as one.

And, thank you, Margarita, for posting the picture for me!

Plus the women trusted him- well-to-do authority figure/friend. I'll bet they never suspected he'd give them Quaaludes or they'd never have agreed to take them- the ones who knew he gave them a pill, some he just slipped it into their wine, or told them it was for a headache. Who's gonna take a Quaalude for a headache???

Consent or not, the pills were prescription narcotics; at the very least, The Cos' was breaking the law by distributing them to others.

He probably picked her because she was female. Like "see, here's a woman who supports me".

"How can I be a rapist? My attorney is a woman!"

A "CAMILLE'S HUSBAND" bracelet? I can't roll my eyes hard enough.

And fat lot of good it did anyway.

If the purpose was to remind Bill that he shouldn't prey on other women, it obviously didn't work too well... but if it was bought to impress Camille about what a devoted husband he is, it might have done the trick exactly as it was supposed to :P

The woman who conceived this project – New York Magazine Photography Director Jody Quon talks about how she put it all together.

All in all, you get a very solid portrait of a man who enjoys humiliating and overpowering women, and even likes toying with them before and after the rape itself, just to drive home the message of who has the power here.

This dovetails neatly with the image you get of Cosby reading about the four day deposition he gave in 2005, after being sued by Andrea Constand for sexual abuse. Cosby’s arrogance during that deposition is chilling. You really start to see that he thinks that he has us all fooled and that he can, to be blunt, ******** his way out of anything. You start to get the feeling that he doesn’t just see the alleged victims as toys he can play with, but that is his attitude towards all of us: That we’re all just a bunch of dupes in his game and that he is the big man in charge.

After New York magazine’s story went live Sunday, social media lit up with the hashtag #TheEmptyChair, which is being used to share personal accounts and support for others who have survived similar situations. Journalist Elon James White was one of the first to use it, posting statements from women who told him they wanted to share their stories but couldn’t speak for themselves. Within 24 hours, it had been used nearly 13,000 times.

Jill Scott:
She continued, “I’m just saying being a creator or being an artist that is a black man – that is beloved – is one of the most dangerous positions you can ever be in. Respected is one thing, but beloved is dangerous. And more importantly than everything else, they’re just people. Fallible and sometimes f*****d up.”
I dunno... I think Cosby would be just fine had he been happy to be just a beloved or respected black artist, and left off the part where people get raped.

“According to the New York Times, they plan to cast Mr. Cosby’s use of drugs during sex as a widely accepted practice four decades ago,” Wilmore said. “Yeah, the problem is that nonconsensual sex has never been a widely accepted practice.”

Are there still some new women in that article or are there just so many that I can't keep track of the names anymore?

There are some new ones (not sure how new- one that doesn;t want her name used) and many missing. Not all were raped- a few were assaults or attempts at rape. Many of those in the business later compared notes with other women and do know more victims who have not chosen to speak out. Id hazard the true number is easily still triple what has come out.

Interesting that many cite that the first few victims being vilified in the press seems to have spurred them on to tall their stories- as pretty much all of them knew that as individuals they would be doubted.
Hoping this will lead to increased understanding as to why women do not report these acquaintance rapes at a high rate- and that attitudes will change allowing them to do so.

Gay Accuser Questions Cosby's Ability to 'Read' Sexual Cues

"Despite his talent for interpreting female reactions to him, he did not realize plaintiff was gay until the police told him," lawyer Dolores Troiani wrote in the motion.
http://abcnews.go.com/Entertainment...ions-cosbys-ability-read-sexual-cues-32733317

Constand "never attended a celebrity party or requested to take a disco biscuit (or ever even heard that term, for that matter) or any other drug ... that would render her unconscious," Troiani said in the motion Tuesday.

The extraordinary and powerful New York magazine cover featuring 35 of Bill Cosby's alleged victims

Mon Jul 27, 2015 at 06:18 AM PDT

As of Monday morning, the response to the cover page and the article has been so overwhelming that the internet traffic crushed the website and it has been down for hours. I'll update when the site returns online, but if you want to check back, here is a link to the article.

An Apology to Bill Cosby's Victims

Posted: 07/27/2015 5:46 pm EDT Updated: 07/27/2015 5:59 pm EDT

To the victims, I apologize. I apologize not just for not giving credence to your accusations, but for not wanting to believe them. Before these accusations, I defended Bill Cosby when I went around the country, giving speeches to college graduates as well as some African-Americans on how to raise their children (which, by the way, the President and the First Lady of the United States have reiterated a time or two). I am sorry for having even an ounce of doubt because I did not want the legacy of America's dad being black to deteriorate. I apologize for being so obsessed with that legacy that it blinded me to any wrongdoing.

Absolutely. IMO, the bracelet was a stage prop. No more, no less.
I'm leaning towards the Janis Ian model of Camille=business manager=banking manager (therefore knows where the hush money is going and why there are lawyers' fees)=accomplice. And, as she herself said, she "...created him, I knew what I was getting and we'll fix this." JMO, but I think she's done a lot of fixing already.

FWIW
Before he became the affable Dr. Huxtable, Cosby was part of a very sexy fast paced show called I Spy from 1965 - 68. IIRC, his character, Alexander Scott, was a very cool pro tennis player/spy who was a playboy and Rhodes scholar who had an edge. (His partner on the show was played by Robert Culp of the Spanish Fly Routine fame). BC was the first black actor to star in a drama series on television. JMO, but I think the character of Scott may have revealed more about the playboy BC wanted to be in real life than Huxtable ever did.
http://www.nytimes.com/1994/01/31/arts/review-television-bill-cosby-as-spy-cop-and-producer.html

BC was having success after success, living out his fantasies on screen and raking in money. How empty was this man at his core that he needed to fill it with the emotions, painful as they were, of his victims?
