Bravo Special to Address 'Real Housewives' Suicide

Bravo will air a special addressing the suicide of Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Taylor Armstrong’s estranged husband, Russell, sources revealed to the Los Angeles Times.

Cast members Lisa Vanderpump, Camille Grammer, Kyle and Kim Richards and Adrienne Maloof were all present to film the episode earlier this week, though Taylor Armstrong was not present for the taping.

Sources told the Post that the network wanted “to do a sit-down, one-hour special with Andy Cohen,” the network’s executive vice president and host, and that they had “been discussing options for a week.”

At the time, a Bravo rep denied the talks, saying, “It’s not true, there are no plans like that.”

Bravo going ahead with 'Housewives' premiere
Network will also air suicide prevention announcements during the show

NEW YORK — Despite the suicide of Taylor Armstrong's estranged husband Russell earlier this month, "The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills" will still premiere Monday, Sept. 5 on Bravo.

"Given that these episodes were filmed months ago, the producers of the show taped a brief interview this week with several of the cast members to introduce the premiere. Re-editing of the episodes is still underway," Frances Berwick, the President of Bravo Media, told Us Weekly in a statement.

The network will air various PSAs during the show, as well as provide additional information and resources on Bravotv.com including the National Suicide prevention Hotline.

I watched it and found nothing wrong with it.

I'll continue to watch.

It's a realty show. The downfall of their marriage happened. IMO that did not cause his suicide. He made that choice. A lot of marriages fall apart.

When Candy's fiancé was killed in a bar, The Real Housewives of Atlanta still went on and shots of her fiancé was still aired with a comment at the beginning that the show was taped before he was killed.

It's horrible that suicide and murder are part of life's reality, but they are.

www.TMZ.com is reporting that Russell's family isn't buying suicide as Russell's cause of death. They have hired a private detective to look into it.

I just read the same thing .
I was waiting for that ... I really think his family wants to blame or sue someone here .
He signed a waiver with Bravo -they can't sue them .
I imagine they are so upset and it is easier to be angry .
Sad situation for everyone but the kids most of all .

Oh I get that everyone signed waivers, fwiw, but the children of Russell did not. Unfortunately they will see the dissolution of this marriage and the steps leading up to their father's suicide played out on TV.

Not my idea of entertainment, but to each his own. :)

I think the "prequel" was shallow and scripted.

No. Children can not sign waivers. Parents make choices for their children while they are minors.

These 2 parents decided doing the show was a good thing. They signed the waivers. They profited from the show.

Like every other reality show, the parents decide.

I feel for these children. But, even if the show was cancelled, the news (tmz and the sort) are still ALL OVER this story.

It is very sad. But, it's reality.

I missed the episode , but saw previews of it. Adrienne looked totally different from last season. I think she had more surgery on her face. :banghead: Im not sure that i will watch. I havent decieded yet. jmo

Coroner: No drugs in 'Housewives' husband's body

Coroner's officials found no drugs or alcohol in the system of Russell Armstrong, who appeared with his wife on "The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills" and killed himself three weeks before the show's second season premiered.

A report on Armstrong's death released Wednesday provided no new details about why the venture capitalist hung himself. He left behind no note, but the report notes that Armstrong had been depressed about financial issues and problems with his estranged wife, Taylor.

sorry if this has already been posted, but I didn't see it.....This new news now makes me suspicious of the whole thing when I wasn't really all that suspicious prior to hearing this.

The family's sudden decision to open a murder investigation also will prompt a second look at the death of Russell Armstrong's friend Alan Schram, a hegde fund manager who was found dead of what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound in a car parked on Mulhulland Drive outside the home where Armstrong's body was found just a day earlier, TMZ reported.

They were found within hours of each other and on the same street.....something's not right with that, imo.

I love this show, I cant help but watch it.
And the Orange County housewives
And the NJ housewives
And the New York Housewives..
I really cant believe people live like that, but they do..

Oh! I almost forgot Miami!

TMZ has posted the docs.
They are very detailed.
It was hard for me to read them. Very graphic.

There is no way that Bravo can make thsi season palatable for the public, imo.
It doesn't matter to me whether he signed a waiver or not. It has been noted that the Armstrongs were told to ratchet up their marital discord to make good tv.
The opening made it seem like all the housewives were best buddies with Taylor, and that just isn't the case.
This is an extremely sad outcome of a horrendous trend in tv, it should have been canned, imo.
No matter how many waivers were signed.

Where was it reported that the Armstrongs were told to ratchet up their marital discord for good TV?

I haven't seen that.

It was in a article. Not sure which one. probally tmz. On Dr drew, Russels mother said that Taylor had charged 90,000.00 to his amex in June. Not sure how true that was. Thats alot of money for people that are having financial problems. :waitasec:

Didn't Russell's attorney allege that in the very first days after Russell was found? I thought he said they were told to drama it up, or there was the threat they'd be dropped from the show?

I think that's one place I heard it...not saying it is true, nor that Bravo was threatening them. But that it was Russell's attorney (who may have his own reasons to say that), alluding to that.

The LA Times article I linked above indicates the process of ratcheting up the drama in these kinds of shows, and how scripted everything really is.
