IF suicide, the question I have - why did RN choose the back of the house. If she went so far to tie her feet, then why would you choose to perform suicide right outside the room of AS since he could possibly hear the noise and save you?
I was lying in bed last night - it was pitch black outside and cold. Trying to imagine RNs thoughts and actions if she committed suicide... First of all, I would choose something in my bedroom to tie my legs/arms -ex scarf, or go to garage for rope. I would never, never, never have even thought about using an extension cord. Strike 1. So, then I walk around the house and outside naked? Knowing that my boyfriends brother may be in the kitchen? Strike 2. And why choose the outside balcony - right outside the bedroom of AS. If 60 degrees out, he probably had the window wide open. Heck, my neighbors would hear me trying to lasso an electrical cord around the outside porch and move the metal table onto the noisy cement. After midnight on cool night with windows wide open. Strike 3.
So, was AS at the hospital, at bar, taking sleeper meds, drunk, blasting a fan, air tight windows ...or involved? IF so, did he have to find her early - before a maid or caretaker would arrive since his DNA would be found? Did he cover up for his brothers act of rage? (JS first wife had a restraining order following the divorce due to fear and 2nd wife DS called police for continued post divorce violence. He appears to have a bad temper. I suspect he holds his children very close, and not happy about sharing them with an ex. Definately someone who would be very upset if they are injured under your care). Most family members would be so upset, that they could not sleep. Expecially, at a strange home. And why was he in the guest home, rather than the house. Wouldn't RN want company and someone to talk to and set him up in the house, as all the kids gone? When people are going through a trauma, they usually want to talk to family/friends, can't sleep, can't eat, ready to run to hospital when they get the call....
I can see RN very upset, and unable to sleep. IF she was truley suicidal, why not ask the doctor for a sleeper and O.D.? Why choose the hanging naked route on a dark, cold night using electrical cord - much more painful vs. overdosing, falling asleep and never waking up. I ask myself, ...did she have a family member, friend, neighbor who committed suicide by using electrical cord? And why nude? Wouldnt she want to be modest for her grieving family. The only thing I can think of is that JS told her it was over, she was upset that he was with DS and maybe brother - while she was not allowed in ICU and most likely blamed. Consequently, she wanted to embarrass JS and opted to do a public hanging naked and staged it to look like possible murder to hurt him even more....
Either that, or it was murder by family member or hired hit. Since both JS and DS are in the healthcare field, they would have had easy access to drugs,... anesthetics, narcotics, etc. I am sure the LE is testing for obscure drugs that could have been admistered. Possibly an anesthetic that could cause paralysis, allowing someone to hang you. But, I just don't know... JS and DS would have experienced the most pain...so, wouldn't they have been at their dying sons bedside rather than at the mansion. Then, I think what about AS, hired hit or suicide. Just don't know enough information............it can go either way.

-RN stole her husband, stole her homes in AZ / Coronado Island, stole her lifestyle and was babysitting her ONLY child when he fell down the stairs and died. Also, all child payments, benefits (ex beautiful free Coronado home) -all gone.
I would say she may have had the most rage! JS has 2 other children and kept his lifestyle.

Curiousjo, IMHO I could not agree with you more.
One thing is clear. It sure is taking LE a long time to decide if this was a murder or a suicide. I wonder if there is a disagreement between the 15 detectives who are supposedly working on the case on whether this was a murder or a suicide.
I'm afraid I've seen as many sites that discuss AEA participants hogtied or with bound hands as I've seen sites that discuss suicides with bound hands.
Based on averages, if it were very easy for LE to rule AEA without an autopsy or a tox report, then it follows that it would be just as easy from them to rule out suicide or homicide.

So, if we are talking about potential motives/opportunities for homicide, I'll lend my $.02 cents worth.
AS, this man had a 'big' brother, who is wealthy, powerful and influential. I am sure there has been a time or two, when AS was helped by his brother. If JS called him when the accident first occurred, and asked him to come to Coronado, they must be fairly close. If they are fairly close, he would be feeling a LOT of emotions toward a woman that he may have blamed for his nephews death and potentially an injury that occurred to his niece. When this first broke, I also considered that he might be VERY close to DS, even feeling sorry for her, that her marriage ended with his brother and that now her only child was critically injured.
DS, imho, had the most to lose in this scenario. She only has one child. Her child is critically injured and perhaps already brain dead at this time. The woman who she sees as responsible for the break up of her marriage (although I think it was over long before JS met RZ), is now who she sees as being the one responsible for her sons accident. (Whether she was or not actually responsible). I am sure there was also guilt involved, as she could not be found for a time and that she was probably quite content to have Rebecca in charge of watching Max at times. She also stood to lose monetary security, (as curiousjo brought up), which was probably much lower on her scale of importance than Max, but must have added to her stress.
JS, a man of power, who always, even if he had to fight for it, gets his way. This has been true in business and in his personal life. He had been married twice, who knows when he met DS or if he was still married to ex wife #1 at the time. If something or someone is in his way, eliminate the problem. If he felt that Rebecca was responsible for Max's accident, I think he would have acted, perhaps violently, before he even took time to think it out. I think that if DS was emotionally distraught, he may have gone to the house, to talk to Rebecca to get more details aboit the accident. Either that, or when he found out Max was brain dead, he may have snapped. I think JS had the opportunity and the means, being stronger than Rebecca.
All of this is imho only. I can see a number of scenarios and possibilities. I don't think this was a stranger, I don't believe that this was a suicide. Even if LE declares this a suicide, I will not be able to believe it. Of course I don't believe that Oswald killed Kennedy, or many other 'stories' either.

The idea that a woman would engage is such behavior outside, in the nude, with boyfriend's brother staying in very close proximity and with severally injured child in the hospital is so far fetched that it doesn't take long to rule it out.

I'm afraid I am no following your reasoning. If it happened inside, someone would have had to move her outside. Hence, not AEA. Or am I misunderstanding you?

I had to find the origins of the AEA theory...........lol....... its from a tv show. Although a plausible theory the probability is extremely low based on the circumstances and setting.
I do see the relevance in the scarf in that it is used to protect the neck from abrasion as such. Which gives two purposes that would not have been used in a self inflected suicide.
That scarf was used for either a gag or abrasion protection both being actions taken by a second party.
