Apologies for the OT reference, but hopefully it can be seen as background context for the current discussion. IMO the prosecutions case in Florida vs. CA was weak from a strictly legal POV, in spite of the common sense culpability of CA. They paid the price for that.

No. Society pays the price for that.

Wait, wait, wait! I am totally confused now (and I have been reading all day, keeping up!)

Is there a pristine undamaged copy of the HD safe in the evidence room?

Help!

No, I think there was 🤬🤬🤬🤬 on Travis' hard drive but it as a virus, not accessed by him. I think the PI misled the defense into believing Travis had visited 🤬🤬🤬🤬 when he hadn't and into thinking it had been shadily signed out by the state and they deleted the 🤬🤬🤬🤬 files.

The defense did get a mirror image of the hard drive made back in 2008. But they wanted to see it now, as is. The reason they need to produce a mirror image now is because the recently viewed the computer and gave the hard drive back to the state damaged so the state cannot verify its findings or make a new mirror image. So the state needs the mirror image made by the defense. Clearly, they didn't make one. So now Juan cannot verify their findings.

When asked for the mirror they made, they gave a hard drive to Juan belonging to "Tony." We don't know who Tony is though. Juan asked them again for the correct hard drive and they again failed to give them the mirror image of Travis' hard drive.
This is crazy. Shady PI was probably paid by the art and eyeglass donations and purposely compromised the hard drive. moo I hope the DT just accepts the fact that they have nothing.

There is but it's from 2008. It was helpful in determining that Travis' computer had Spybot which would prevent virus sites from being accessed but not so helpful in determining what was the cause of the deletions and verifying what the defense has found.

Agree. If they're smart they won't press the issue and will just drop the matter. But knowing Nurmi, he'll push it until the judge rules against him, which she will.

I kind of think there is a motive of upstaging the charismatic Juan. He lost weight, grew his hair out, and started copping his mannerisms and catchphrases. It's strange...

Well, once they see Juan in motion they will realize Nurmi is just a cheap knock off. They'll know the real thing, Juan, when they see it.

Oh, well. Point is, whoever this expert is, they are shady and they messed up.

WANTED: Defense attorneys, mitigation specialists, expert witnesses, and private investigators for capital murder trial in Maricopa County, Arizona. Great money making opportunity! Must be shady and incompetent, with patience of Job and willingness to ruin career and reputation. Shameless, loathsome and/or shrill individuals preferred. Thick skin a definite plus.

Effective professionals with integrity and decency need not apply.

Isn't that convenient. Watch Nurmi say it was still JM's fault for not demanding Nurmi hire a better expert. :sigh:

He's still going to blame Juan for not "protecting the evidence." Sigh....

Blah blah blah, please send the killer to prison. Who cares about the killer. RIP Travis.

It's sealed, as far as I can tell.

Ah well, we know "a" hard drive was picked up by PI. No other hard drive has been mentioned, so it's just one. We know the DT had Travis' harddrive. It stands to reason that the hard drive the PI picked up was Travis', right?

Yes, because Nurmi is saying it is.

I also might be misremembering. I think it's not that Nurmi was asking for the lap top, it's that he wanted more time to begin trial because the computer expert was still examining Travis' laptop. I think that's what I'm thinking of.

I think you're right, MeeBee.

In any event, I do believe Nurmi has been taken in by a scheming sociopath. Perhaps now he knows how Travis felt.

Thank you, Mee Bee :)

I totally get spybot removing the viruses (I, too have spybot on my laptop). I get that part.
I guess I just don't get all this secret squirrel nonsense about turning over a "wrong" hard drive. I don't know what it's supposed to achieve?

Got this retweet from the Sept 2 hearing, courtesy of YesorNo from one of the sidebar threads. The PI probably picked up this hard drive.

Jen's Trial Diaries @TrialDiariesJ · 23s
#jodiarias wants a hard drive from evidence

But it doesn't say which hard drive. Could be hers, could be Travis'. This might be the time where we were wondering whose hard drive she wanted. And I thought in Oct. Nurmi was still trying to get Travis' computer but I cannot find a reference for that. I might be incorrect.

Oh, well. Point is, whoever this expert is, they are shady and they messed up.

Didn't she mention a hard drive in her last motion to kick Nurmi to the curb? IIRC she did, and it was TA computer she spoke of. But in the event I have my handwritten-by-the-killer-herself documents confused, please ignore me.

Yeah, it's unclear. When the state asked for the mirror of Travis' hard drive, they gave them a hard drive for a Dell belonging to Tony. No idea who Tony is, don't think we'll ever know. Either it was a mistake or it was deliberate but now it's looking like it was deliberate.

Reminds me of that time I accidentally handed in a copy of War and Peace in my freshman English class. Boy was I embarrassed!

The only thing it was supposed to achieve was to cover for that fact the expert did not make a mirror image like they should have. What it ended up doing is highlighting that fact and making the defense look bad.
