The "mirror" has to be exactly the same as the original, viruses and all.

If the drive is damaged, the forensics tools can "copy" the unreadable space by just filling it up with nulls (zeroes) so that a 50GB original = 50GB mirror. Those zeroes are not . (this in italics is not happening now on the stand, this is a theory of mine)

But if they turned over an exact clone....it would show their tinkering...

How can you come into court not knowing every thing you can about this hard drive? Wasn't this something you would do when given a week to review and back up your expert opinion?

It looks like the DT prepared BN for cross as well as they did Dr F. All that's lacking now is for him to say that he only looked at the 18G the DT told him to, because that was the kernel of the hard drive and the rest was irrelevant.
