Is it common for attorneys to allow the client to tell them how to handle the case? This is an area I am clueless about.
AZL would be your best bet. :) Ultimately the client is the boss. However, most people (you know ones who care more about living than demonizing the dead) actually listen to their attorney. I have a sneaking suspicion Jodi does what she wants, when she wants, Nurmi et al. be damned.

I can see Jodi refusing to cooperate in her case when Nurmi approached using borderline as a mitigator. And I can see Nurmi going 'Well, you think you know better? Have at it.' I can also see him having a front row seat in the death chamber. ;)

so sorry, pages and pages behind, but does anyone think it was strategic decision by Juan to hire DeMarte? knowing she would really get under JA's skin?

Everything about JM's case is deliberate. I'm sure he wouldn't have hired DeMarte if she weren't exceptionally skilled at what she does. Extra bonus that a) she gets under JA's skin and b) she's the same age as JA and has a lengthy and stellar CV.

You don't mean that!

He wouldn't!

Would he?

Well, JA says in her motions to kick Nurmi off the case that she kept telling him and telling him about all these great witnesses, evidence, etc., but he inexplicably refused to follow up on her ideas. Maybe the reason he refused to follow up was because he knew JM would have a field day with her "evidence." But now he's saying, OK, fine, Jodi, let's see if you're smarter than all the lawyers. We'll do it your way this time.

No, but in this case Jodi kept saying in writing how unhappy she was with KN's mitigation strategy, so perhaps he decided to do things her way this time around and see how she liked it then. :)

Could that be the reason why he was afraid that the defense he presented would be scrutinized?

Who's Amy and what fund?

*Aimee. (I misspelled her name.) The cousin that said JA was a *****. The fund is JA's appeal fund. Just me being a tad bit snarky.

Yes, that could be one reason.

Slightly OT: I keep seeing people talk about the glasses she wears. My husband just showed me that someone on JA side is selling them on Ebay.

They're props. Part of the librarian look and she doesn't really need them to see. Apparently she took them off today.

I didn't take it as snarky. I took it as truth!

(No hummer for you Aimee.)

So that's what Maria has been doing this afternoon in court. I thought she was catching up on tweets--and sending out Jodi's latest tweet for her followers. Seriously, who would want to have anything that Jodi has worn? Not me!

She has to look nice to compete with Dr. DeMarte, of course.

Yeah but Lina, shouldn't KN and JW have warned her about what might happen? I mean, surely they did. Is she so arrogant that she ignored their advice?

Arrogant being the key word. Better yet, many psychologists insist she actually has NPD. In the end though it's really simple...

:trainwreck:

I keep remembering how Detective Flores told her that she wouldn't want to go up against JM in court. That he was the best he's ever met.

JA also seems to have tried to pit Wilmott against Nurmi. I think everyone involved but Maria will cheer silently if she gets the DP.

I think Nurmi and Wilma are beyond JA. Their total interest is the death penalty. Fighting to get it banned in Arizona. They want the jury to reject it for Jodi so they can bill themselves as experts at getting their clients life. That is all Jodi is useful for right now.

And we are back. Document refers to the 2nd time JA worked at the Purple Plum. JM moving 881 and 878 - Nurmi says he hasn't seen 881, reads it and asks to approach.

Judges balls?

Ok, whether you are for or opposed to how the Judge is handling this case, that was freaking funny --made me thing of Melissa McCarthy in "The Heat". Thanks for the laugh Nash.
