Ya, but things get overturned. So as long as she is alive there will always be a chance, no matter what. Case in point, Charlie Manson.

I don't believe this is correct. Even if JSS sentences her to LWP, (as I understand it) Arizona currently has no parole. There is a possibility they may reinstate this in the future but even then she may not be eligible for parole. I don't think we need to be worried about JA getting out in the future!

I don't have a link but I think AZLawyer explained it this way once.

What Skye doesn't realize (and perhaps the family doesn't either) is that no one can control what a jury decides to do or even if they can make a unanimous determination. The best closing in the world doesn't guarantee anything, nor does a mediocre or sub-par closing. Closing arguments are not testimony, so if the jury does their job, they will need to follow the rules and instructions given them by the judge.

Obtaining a DP sentence is not easy, is not a slam dunk, and 12 reasonable people could come to a different conclusion than what everyone else wants. That's why I've always said that getting the guilty verdict for 1st degree murder was the most important piece to all of this. That piece alone was "justice served" because it ensures the killer will be kept away from free society. Anything beyond that is "icing on the cake."

If a DP is reached by the jury, people will say Juan's closing was great!
If a DP is not reached by the jury, people might say Juan's closing was bad.

It's all about feelings of the person doing the critique, based on what they want.

Juan's closing reminded the jurors of the basic issues before them, but ultimately it's not up to Juan to decide.

I hope the family is fully prepared for any outcome, as trying to predict a jury is like trying to determine the future by looking at cloud formations.

Juan Was Brilliant! But he cannot make up the minds of the jury. That is their job.

Will JA offer a last minute allocation? She might be on a high from JM's "epic failure closing" (eye roll) and decide it's not needed. Too bad.

You never know about her. I don't think it can help her now.

<mod snip>

Juan's closing to me was straight facts. I got the shivers when he was comparing the nearly decapitated head of TA compared to "cute little Jodi" pics.

Juan has laid the road down for them, now it's up to them to go through the evidence and expert testimony to make their decision. This is a trial as to how Jodi should be sentenced, not if she is guilty.

Obviously, manipulation runs in the family. #JodiArias

I won't be surprised or worried if we don't get a quick verdict. I imagine that the jurors will take advantage of finally being able to TALK about it all. I imagine they will want to do a bit of OMG! and Can you believe?! etc. before they really get down to business. I know I would need to decompress a bit.

Law A statement that is made by a defendant before a sentence is pronounced. (websters)

I only care about how Travis Alexander is remembered. Here are some of his friends with their beautiful memories

It is Allocution but our clever computers want to correct the spelling!
It is her chance to explain her actions to the Jury, and ask for mercy. She refused.

Questions by a tweeter to Jarrett Seltzer on Juan's closing arguments moments ago, I wonder where all the negative comments on Juan's closing arguments are coming from?!

Q. by a tweeter. @JarrettSeltzer Do you agree with the "bland" closing by JM? it would be out of character for him.

Jarrett Seltzer ‏@JarrettSeltzer 1h1 hour ago
A. Overall I think he did it right. Wasn't fireworks and wasn't the time for fireworks IMO @TrialDiariesJ

Q. by a tweeter @JarrettSeltzer @TrialDiariesJ I suspect he maintains intensity even when he is not theatrical.

Jarrett Seltzer@JarrettSeltzer
A. Correct and it's not like he wasn't theatrical he just wasn't yelling @TrialDiariesJ

Can you tell me what an allocation is??
Where the defendant gets up and says they are sorry for what they did, beg for mercy, explain there actions. Tell about how they can grow hair, teach Spanish, start a recycling program in prison, etc etc,

Jodi did none of this, this time.

Thank you so much. And my sincere condolences on the loss of your Mom, 60 is so very young :grouphug:

Oddly enough, Samantha said basically the same thing to me, that my Mom was up there with Travis watching over him for now. I'm sure your Mom is right there too [emoji813]beat:
We, as humans, have compassion for others, something CMJA is severely lacking.
Praying the jury gives the Alexanders what they want.
Absolutely... Our mommas got this. :) sending strength to the Alexanders today! I hope Nurmi is quick... Ha, Nurmi and quick in the same sentence. [emoji23] [emoji24]

disagree. she will see the light of day. they get plenty of rec time, relationships. She'll get to socialize and spin her web and she will love it. She will do interviews galore, because, well, she's FAMOUS, dontcha know, lol. Even serial killers got TV time. Oh, she is gonna have a blast and she is a chameleon so she will adapt quickly. Dollars to donuts she will LOVE it! Might even get her a prison guard!

(my humble opinion of course)

That's not how it works. According to a former guard at the prison, who even made a video talking about this very subject, even if Arias gets LWOP she will be segregated and in some kind of isolation for the first few years, up to 5 years. This fantasy of how great her life will be in prison and how much she'll love it and all the treats she'll get is just that, a fantasy, believed and perpetuated by people who don't know anything about prison life in general or Perryville in particular. She will not be permitted to do whatever she wants, the prison will control every aspect of her life, the rest of her life.
