During the years I have worked in a Duty Airport Manager role, and then F/A. Before 9/11 frequently would ask if we could sit a pax in the jumpseat for taking or landing. Or you might have a budding teenager who dreamt of being a pilot. XMAS time we would seat young children in the J/S and the Capt would tell them that he could see them on his radar. The travelling public would get such a kick out of this. Sadly this all changed. I also remember a pilot who actually made a PA to the cabin instead of to the F/A…pressed the wrong button !!! Hey brownie "can you send the swedish chick with the big 🤬🤬🤬🤬 up to the F/D for take-off !!!! Went through the entire cabin !!!!!

That sounds like such a great job! I always wanted to be an air traffic controller, but I aged out of it lol. Gotta start before you're 30 right?

I'm not too sure. Will ask tomorrow. We have had a number of trainee air traffic controllers do famil flight's over the years. I guess they have the ability to burn out quickly. I'm interested to find out.

Thank you, that's kind of you! I remember being disappointed back when I looked into it; I was already over the hill in air traffic controller years lol.

Correct me if I am wrong but aren't those large rafts located on topside of the wing and have to be deployed manually??

When I employ F/A's I would much prefer them to be into their 40"s with some life experience, as they fly by themselves (solo)….so your it... no back up. I can't speak on behalf of ATC - I would feel the same…I don't think you are ever too old. I know some of our Pilot's were in trades such as plumbing and decided to get their CPL in their 40"s. Some of our cadets (in their 20"s) maybe excellent at their job….do they have life experience….nup…..I guess it's called the big picture.

They have to be deployed manually. Whilst I respect the culture/religion of those onboard and decisions as to autopsies …….I would be interested to find out who deployed the slide and the fate of the crew member.

I realize this may be an unfair question but does the raft in the tweet look like the ones that are folded up inside the wing where we are all supposed to gather??

Airbus 320 length is 37.57 meters and height is 11.76. The wing span is 35.80 meters.

Three of the large parts found are 7.2 x 0.5 meters, 9.4 x 4.8 x 0.4 meters and the largest piece is almost 18 meters long.

Not sure about the other two parts, can't find dimensions for them. So we've got at least 34 meters of plane with just those pieces. Could some of those large pieces be the wings?

this article refers to an uninflated slide....don't know if it is the same item that was show in the tweet upthread or not

I'm pretty sure they are two separate items. The slide was found several days ago and the raft was found this morning.

ETA: Yes, two different items. The raft was found this morning and measures 6 x 3 meters. It's being sent to the Indonesian authorities.

Hahaha .... I think you should write a book, emirates. Call it something like Funny Things That Have Happened On The Way To Your Destination. I'll buy a copy for me, and more for Xmas pressies for family and friends. :)
