Retrieving wreckage from AirAsia Flight To Singapore- no survivors recovered #3

Totally agree. Originally I had envisioned something more like what would be connected to a helicopter rather than what is being shown in these photos.

I completely get where you are coming from, panthera. I think that we had all envisioned a professional, well thought out, planned recovery - involving consultation with experts in the field and borrowed equipment and resources, if required.

What we are seeing is quite the opposite. Attempting to float the fuselage and dropping it, multiple times, with the apparent intention to drag it up onto that boat and further damage it is certainly not ideal.

At this point, I don't think there is going to be any investigation past the review of the black boxes and opinions about weather conditions.

Even the two people that they are definitely going to autopsy are being left presumably sitting in the cockpit, about 500 metres from the fuselage, until they are done messing about with the fuselage. Won't be much of them left to autopsy by then.

Thanks for all your updates SouthAussie and everyone they are all much appreciated. I hope and pray they figure out a way to get the fuselage up successfully ASAP. They are obviously way out of there depth and need specialist help. I can't imagine sitting watching images of the wreckage being brought up and down, up and down again knowing my missing loved one could be inside it is horrendous.

This is off topic, but since yesterday, 5 planes in the US have been diverted. Two in Atlanta, GA yesterday due to tweets and today 3 more, 2 in WA and one in Dallas. Now I read this. They haven't found yesterdays twitterer yet. (I had the name but can't find it now. King something...I'll post if I find it)

Malaysia Airlines site 'hacked by Cyber Caliphate'

Cyber Caliphate, a hacker group that claims affiliation with ISIS, appears to have defaced the website of Malaysia Airlines on Monday morning.

The words "404 – Plane Not Found, Hacked by Cyber Caliphate" appeared in bold, white letters in the center of the homepage. The tab of the hacked website read "ISIS will prevail."

Here's about the tweet from yesterday and I do apologize bringing it here but when I saw Maylasia Airlines had been hacked and ISIS etc...and this guy below, plus no details have been released on the last 3 planes, yet. I had to post. I can't find the tweet where this tweeter claimed to be God...but I did read it right before the Malaysia Airlines tweet.

Cyber crimes expert: Finding airplane bomb threat suspect is a matter of days

Around noon, someone posting on Twitter with the handle @kingZortic contacted Delta Airlines' customer assistance Twitter account.

They wrote, "@DeltaAssist I have a bomb on one of your planes, but I forgot which one when I left the airport. Can you help me find it?"

Off topic

Agreed I haven't been this concerned about world events since 9/11 and the months after. It is unfortunately impossible for the security services world wide to keep tags on every terrorist/hacker/IS Supporter. Unfortunately most likely more attacks are going to happen like those in Paris in the future. I saw an interview today of a Lady who survived Auschwitz and she was very afraid with what is happening in the world.

I wonder what can be done to ensure planes are not hijacked by hacking in future which is a very scary thought.

Off topic: Several years ago (I work at a small commercial airport in Communications) we had someone hack into our radio frequencies. He stated in a middle eastern type of voice that "there was a bomb in the airport, it may be in Southwest or it maybe somewhere else". It was very scary. We had people looking everywhere for this person. Unfortunately, radio frequencies are public knowledge. Our radios only carry in a 10 mile radius, so he was very close. It got to a point later that he was calling in codes that we use, and pretending to be security personnel, but we knew he didn't know everything as some of the language he used, we never use. It got the point he was busting in when we were in an actual code, like a medical, and so the FBI came in. The guy was never caught, but we changed frequencies and never heard from him again. I listen and answer to 4 channels at once, so this guy busting in created quite a havoc.

Wow! What a strange and scary story! And he was never caught, even scarier...

Graphic Warning. The attempt to bring up the fuselage, 2nd attempt.

Trying to set aside my own personal angst after witnessing the body of that poor lady (I have a pit in my stomach even typing this) I was at least somewhat heartened to see that her body was in as good of condition as it was.

I wonder why we haven't been hearing about any bodies being identified lately?

I'm still mad at Lizard Squad for taking down Xbox Live on Christmas day, but really that was quite trivial in comparison to this. I do not know what their intentions are but they are bang out of order and quite terrifying. They need to be stopped. It's the first I have heard about being ISIS affiliation, I have read they are Canadian hackers but not heard ISIS mentioned before, scary!

"AirAsia Indonesia Flight QZ8501 UPDATE (as of 26th January 2015 8:00 PM (GMT+7)

SURABAYA, 26TH JANUARY 2015 – The search and rescue (SAR) team resumed the mission to float the fuselage wreckage from the Java Sea floor today. SAR vessels were mobilized around the focus area while divers were deployed into the sea to ensure the equipment such as ropes and lifting bags were properly attached. The floating mission unfortunately continued to be hampered by strong underwater current this afternoon. No additional recoveries were reported today.

The Disaster Victim Identification Police Department Republic of Indonesia (DVI POLRI) today announced that two passengers were identified as: Wanti Setiawati (female) and Djarot Biantoro (male). AirAsia Indonesia has officially handed over the remains to the respective families this afternoon.

To date, BASARNAS has confirmed to have recovered a total of 70 remains of which 54 remains have been identified by DVI POLRI, 15 remains are still being identified and 1 remain is still in Pangkalan Bun, Central Borneo.

AirAsia Indonesia would like to take this opportunity to urge the public seeking progress on the search and evacuation and identification process of QZ 8501 passengers to refer solely to official information from BASARNAS and DVI POLRI."

Jakarta, Indonesia (CNN)Why did AirAsia Flight QZ8501 crash into the sea while the seven other planes flying nearby eventually landed safely?

That's the big question on the mind of Indonesia's Transportation Minister as investigators finish preparing the initial report into the crash last month of the Airbus A320-200 with 162 passengers on board.

"The question is why this plane suddenly climbed" from 32,000 feet to almost 38,000 feet "without any information and any warning," Ignasius Jonan told CNN in an interview Monday.

Jonan said none of the other planes in the area experienced the turbulent weather patterns that led the pilot of QZ8501 to request a change of course and an increase in altitude shortly before it disappeared off radar.

Data provided by the Indonesian Transportation Ministry shows that less than three minutes after making that request, Flight QZ8501 began climbing sharply, rising nearly 6,000 feet in less than a minute.

The plane then fell rapidly and disappeared off radar in the middle of the Java Sea. That sequence of events is based on radar and transponder information, not on the contents of the plane's flight data recorder."

I hesitated on posting that video but watching it was a wake up call on how they are bringing up the plane & finding the people's bodies, too sad they film this stuff, smh. Please flag it if you think it should be removed. Once is enough to watch it. Watching the belt/strap snapping was horrendous. It's a plane with loved ones in it. smh fgs

Bad weather thwarted divers' plans Monday for yet another attempt at raising the fragile fuselage of AirAsia Flight QZ8501 from the bottom of the Java Sea.

The military divers were hoping to avoid similar problems Monday by using twice as much rope as the day before .... They were also putting the inflatable bags being used to lift the wreckage inside the fuselage, he said.

Officials are aiming to float the wreckage to the surface and then hoist it onto a waiting ship.

Well, it looks as though the recovery mission is over. Sounds as though the fuselage, cockpit, and any other wreckage is going to remain in its watery grave forever.

"The Indonesian military said Tuesday that it was stopping its efforts to try to find and recover the remains of AirAsia Flight QZ8501 almost a month after the commercial jet crashed into the sea."
