(Reuters) - A preliminary report into last month's crash of an AirAsia passenger jet that killed 162 people will not include an analysis of the black box flight recorders, an Indonesian investigator said on Tuesday.

The National Transportation Safety Committee will submit its initial findings this week to the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) on AirAsia's first fatal crash.

The preliminary report, which the ICAO requires within 30 days of the date of the accident, will include "information on the plane, the number of passengers and other information like that", NTSC investigator Suryanto told Reuters."

Jakarta, Indonesia (CNN)The Indonesian military said Tuesday that it was stopping its efforts to try to recover the remains of AirAsia Flight QZ8501 almost a month after the commercial jet crashed into the sea.
But Indonesia's search and rescue agency, Basarnas, will continue its work to retrieve bodies from the wreckage site in the Java Sea, a civilian source close to the search and rescue operations told CNN.
"We are really disappointed," Imam Sampurno, whose four family members who were on the plane still haven't been found, said of the military's announcement. "We really hope the evacuation process is still going."

I'm sorry that efforts to retrieve the plane wreckage have been stopped surely some country or group has the expertise to help.

I hesitated on posting that video but watching it was a wake up call on how they are bringing up the plane & finding the people's bodies, too sad they film this stuff, smh. Please flag it if you think it should be removed. Once is enough to watch it. Watching the belt/strap snapping was horrendous. It's a plane with loved ones in it. smh fgs

RSBM No, I'm glad you did! We're all adults here, and actually it's something that those of us that are actively following this probably needed to see. It kind of fit in with the troubling spectacle that this has become.

And if someone didn't want to see, you thoughtfully added a warning so we could make that choice.

Well, it looks as though the recovery mission is over. Sounds as though the fuselage, cockpit, and any other wreckage is going to remain in its watery grave forever.

I hate that I freakin' knew this would happen! I think we all did! Has something like this EVER happened before, where a passenger jet is simply left on the ocean floor (in only 100 feet of water!!!!!!) and the victims are left there forever? The families must be devastated to hear this.

What a cluster****! And their initial report does will include any black box info? BS. Remind me to stay away from Indonesia (and Malaysia). I abhor the way they do (or don't do!) things. I cannot stand this...the poor families!

I knew their half-azzed efforts would end with leaving the wreckage and remains. Is this how they "save face?" "Too much bad weather and danger, it's not possible." Baloney. All they had to do was ask for assistance.

I'd long suspected from observations we might have a burial at sea but then thought they could retrieve the bodies. It's looking like we might have burials at sea.

Well, I just heard on our Ch 7 morning news that Indonesia has stated that the plane itself is not required for the investigation.

And from this WSJ article, I don't believe that anyone knows that there are no people left inside. I think they are just saying that so there is no/little backlash from the families.

“If we need to lift the fuselage to retrieve the bodies, we will try to do that,” he said, adding that he would consider asking the military for help at a later stage.

A spokeswoman for the Indonesian military said the pullout would apply to all factions of the military, including the marines, which also provided divers.

Military spokesman Fuad Basya said that the plane's body was "destroyed". "It was soaked in sea water for a while so when we lifted it, it was torn apart," he said. "We can no longer find any more bodies."

Shukor Yusof, founder of aviation research firm Endau Analytics, said it would be surprising if authorities did not continue to salvage the aircraft.

"I think it would be very surprising if the salvage was not continued, knowing in fact that it's there," he told AFP. "I can't think of any previous aircraft incidents where they haven't tried to retrieve everything."

Swiss Air 111 was much worse for sea conditions etc. and they did a much better job of recovery for the families -- Indonesia should be ashamed of their insensitive limp wristed '''attempts''' .....mnsho

My heart breaks for the families who haven't recovered remains. How can the searchers give up? Of course it was difficult because of how they were trying to raise the fuselage!!!!! Straps and balloons!!!!!! Come on! My dog has more sense than that. It's all BS to me.. If those remains belonged to relatives of those searchers I am sure they would keep trying.. At least to recover remains. They've only recovered like 65 bodies.. Where the heck are the rest then if they aren't in the fuselage (Which I firmly believe they are!) I am so furious at how it was handled. I just.. Wow. [emoji35]

I understand your frustration, it's appalling. And do they really think the families are going to accept this sudden new revelation that there are no more bodies in the fuselage? But what would be even worse, I hope by them saying there aren't any more bodies it doesn't give the families false hope that their loved ones are floating around in a life boat somewhere, or somehow made it to an island.

Well of course it's not! At least not for the type of investigation they are doing. No plane wreckage needed, no autopsies needed either. Why would any of those things be needed to investigate a plane crash? Sheesh everyone, quit being so nitpicky!

And for another comparison, Air France was 13,200 feet down. Airasia is only 100 feet down. :notgood:

This is insane. Since they're throwing in the towel, does that mean another government could step in and resume efforts? One that's experienced and professional????? Can the relatives sue the government for giving up??? Argh!!
